ME AS A DESIGNER 3
I have always been a person that likes to be creative. In my spare time I do all kinds of things that ask eye for detail and patience. I like to call them my personal projects. On the following page you can see a variety of things Iâ€™ve made during the last years.
FOCUS I like working with my hands. Making miniatures is one of those things I really enjoy in my spare time. The miniatures are scuplted from clay. They ask a lot of patience and precision but in the end itâ€™s al worth it.
Painting and drawing is another acitivity I really enjoy. I use different kind of techniques, from aquarel painting to digital drawing. With the results I decorate rooms and make personal postcards. In the five years I have been studying product design there have been a lot of projects. Some of them were individual some and some were in group. Thereâ€™s a variety of topics. On the following pages a selection of the school projects is presented.

3D MODELING EXERCISE GOAL Experiment with 3D modeling using the software Solidworks. Use different techniques including surface modeling. Translate the results into nice renders.
FOCUS Creating the correct shapes in the software and making the renders as realistic as possible. Experiment and learn!
RESULT Images that show the created shapes in its best possible way. They are results of experimenting in the 3D software.
PAYMENT TERMINAL Bachelorsâ€™s thesis (individual)
GOAL A modular payment terminal with a built-in safe for a specific context commissioned by the company Antenor.
FOCUS Focus on modularity, technical components, manufacturability, design, ease of use, user interactions ...
RESULT A payment terminal for a hostel that guests can use to check in and check out. The design and materialization is in line with the urban industrial look.
The design process was a long process of testing and adapting. Different mockups were made to test the user interactions and the overall dimensions. In this project a lot of attention went to the technical operation. There was the need to create new dividing and locking systems for the money. Every detail was made in 3D software. MOOV - DYNAMIC CITY GOAL In this project the aim was to create energy in cities in a different way. Try to involve a lot of citizens in the project.
FOCUS Focus on creating a total product/service system by integrating extra advantages for users. Thinking outside the box.
RESULT The end idea is to implement energy production components in seating objects that are placed all over the city. By swinging you produce energy that I used to feed Internet of Things components placed on the streets.
By swinging users produce energy and get points on their token.
On the application and screens outside citizens can see the companies they are supporting. 17
TRANSFORMATION GOAL Transform the old dated building into a nice inspiring place. Give some first ideas for interior and exterior transformations.
FOCUS Create big changes using minimal interventions.
RESULT Quick presentation images of possible transformations for interior and exterior. They inspire the client.
DIGITAL ARTWORK GOAL Help making a tutorial for an ideation toolkit made by the company Studio Dott. The tutorial needs to look good with matching artwork for the different screens.
FOCUS I worked together with an animation expert. He animated the tutorial, I was responsible for the artwork.
RESULT Some matching illustrations that can be used for tutorial purposes. They are funky, functional and have a typical style.

POINTER DESIGN GOAL Design a pointer that matches the overall style of a certain brand. In this case the brand is Muji which stands for simplicity. Also integrate a shape you can find in nature.
FOCUS A lot of shapes were created. Thanks to questionnaires and matrixes some shapes were selected. The aim was to pick the design that has the best matching vibe and look.
RESULT A pointer that matches the style of Muji. It looks clean and simple. It also refers to the shape of leaf.
RICH INTERACTION GOAL For a given concept create a tangible product that has a lot of rich interaction in it. Make it work in real life using Arduino.
FOCUS A variety of ideas were created. One of them was chosen and made into a working prototype. User interactions were tested.
RESULT A realistic prototype of a working interactive hanger and matching application. The designed interactions tell a story.

UNBOXING EXPERIENCE GOAL The company More from less design packages for big brands. During a workshop week I designed some concepts for their new goal. They want to make the unboxing experience for online buyers more meaningful.
FOCUS Create a lot of different ideas and make some of them more concrete. Think about new ways to increase the experience.
RESULT Two concepts that show how the unboxing experience for e-commerce can be upgraded and more meaningful.
What if opening a luxury package could be more pleasing for different senses? In this concept the idea is to upgrade the overall experience by building a certain lifestyle around the product. First you can smell a perfume that creates a vibe. Secondly you get some inspiration about other matching accessories. Thirdly you can feel a sample of the leather used in the product. And finally you get to unbox the final product.
These days, social media has a ma jor impact. It could be interesting to integrate this in the packaging. Working with influencers offers a lot of opportunities. What if someone orders a certain dress online, opens the package and sees pictures of influencers wearing the same dress? This gives the buyer inspiration of how to wear the dress in different styles. On the package there is a specific hashtag for the piece of clothing. Every brand has a different hashtag per item. The buyer can use this hashtag on social media platforms and get the chance to be featured on the next package.
EXPERIENCE VOTING Masterâ€™s thesis (individual)
Try to upgrade the traditionial voting process for elections by increasing the voter experience.
FOCUS Focus on telling a story around the voting experience. Make burger paricipation more meaningful.
RESULT A designed method with interventions to integrate burgers from the start by letting them share their opinion and a redesign of the polling station.
After a long analysis that shows all the pain points in the traditional voting process a special method was developed to increase the voter experience. The basic idea is that from now on we can vote at beautiful places in the city. Normally polling stations are situated in school classes or other boring places. Wouldnâ€™t it be lovely if from now on people can vote somewhere where they want to be. They get the chance to vote on high buildings that give you a beautiful skyline, or you can vote in a beautiful theater. This is the basic idea. A method was created to tell a story around it. First the city scans its locations. These locations must meet requirements. In the next step young adults get the chance to give feedback on the locations. They use a web application to let the city know which locations are most attractive. By doing this they get invitations for inspiring political events in the periode before voting day. Once the favourite locations are selected, the city had to share them with everyone in the city. They make sure all people get to know where they can vote. Voters can choose their voting location in advance. On the voting day they come to the location and vote.

The method consists of mulitiple interventions. Some of them were further designed. First the web application was translated into a working prototype. Secondly the polling station was redesigned into a voting module that can be placed on the voting locations. These interventions were tested and optimalised over a long period.
