_Positive Proposal p02 _Negative Proposal p03 _Surface Proposal p04 _Emptiness Proposal p01

This proposal start from the thesis: “The public space is a puzzle” and “Physical action – Digital Reaction”. For the design of this square we have based on the reference “Escher´s Drawings” (contradictions of the spatial configuration). Some corridors are created from the main entrances to the square in which the user through the action of stepping is illuminating. When goes into the square user finds him with a series of contradictory ways. Appears inside a children’s playground with light tubes where children can choose materials from boxes to play. The boxes can cover the square around the perimeter and are connected with the existing buildings in the square.

This proposal start from the thesis: “Public Space is a climatological greenhouse”. For the design of this square we have based us on the following references: “Holocaust Memorial” (Decontextualization from the public space), “Hoberman´s Sphere”(mobile collapsible surface), “Wooden House” (emptiness as activity generator). Norway is a country with great cultural tradition of storytelling and secular dances. Microclimate spaces are created in the square to facilitate those uses. Different environments with different climates that do not exist in Norway are created and allow the user to escape from the outside (Tropical, desert and polar). These environments are created by a circular recession of the surface of the square generating a few steps that allow different adaptations for the user. These recesses are closed with a dome, based on mobile Hoberman Sphere, to create these environments. It regulates the internal environment to adapt to the climate you want. With the soil from the excavation hides the structure that covers the enclosure and creates new settings in the public space.

The square is based on 3 main concepts that articulate de whole proposal. The first was extracted out of the reference of the port of Vigo and is the aspect of how a public space may change its physical form and relationship depending on its interaction with the current climate. The second concept is related to the aspect on how a specific surface is able to create different scenes of direct interaction with the user, as seen in the project of the Wooden House of Sou Fujimoto. And finally the last aspect related to the project is how the different uses of the proposal may be articulated over a series of platforms at changing altitudes a seen in the project of the Yokohama harbour. In the proposal there will be a clear difference between two main levels defining the interior space of the proposal and the exterior passable moving skin that leads to the roof of the main volume establishing a visual relationship with the lake of Hamar. At the same time there are 3 different programs under this skin defined by the spaces produced by the positioning of the modules which define the base shape for the moving skin. The movement of the skin depends on the amount of rain that falls on every day tensioning or not the skin so that on rainy days it forms a protected hull over the inferior space meanwhile on dry days the tension gets lower, the skin comes down adapting itself to the base shape determinate by the modules and this way making possible the transition to the roof of the main volume.

This proposal starts from the thesis interpreting the public space as a neuron. For the design of this square we have based our proposal on the following references: “Andalsnes” ( mobile facilities connecting public spaces) and “Hoberman´s Sphere” (mobile collapsible surface). In the beginning we have analyzed the uses and activities that take place in public spaces in Hamar. The idea is to see which uses are common in Hamar and which are not. In consequence we propose a connection between public spaces and new public spaces are created by emptying part of the existing weft of Hamar. The mechanism for doing it is a railway connection with mobile modules, each of it independent of the normal traffic of Hamar. This connection starts at the main Train-Station and is based on the reuse of old railway wagons to take advantage to create the modules. In Stortorget there are two types of railways routes: routes of direct connection between squares and routes related to the facades and the interaction between the different modules themselves. Existing modules have a length of 20 meters. There are two types of modules: fixed (15 x 2,5) and mobile modules (5 x 2,5).Fixed modules have a use related to the surrounding buildings. There are 4 types of mobile modules: kitchen, library, market and social meeting. Depending on the events that take place in the public spaces of Hamar, modules move to other squares to fill that need or create new situations in the square. Modules can be attached to the facades by a mechanism based on the Hoberman sphere to create covered areas and expand the use of the equipment at which they adhere.
