Defib machine for Reserve BELLLARINE Bears Baseball Club recently installed a defibrillator machine at the club’s home base at Wallington Recreation Reserve. The funding for the defibrillator machine was made courtesy of the Leopold Community Bendigo Bank's successful ‘Community Investment Program’.
Last season, a member of nearby club Deakin University baseball team suffered a heart attack while playing in the Geelong Baseball Association’s winter season. The 50-year-old was brought back to life by the efforts of others via CPR and an on-site defibrillator.
The man was taken to hospital and survived the incident but according to attending paramedics these actions quite likely saved the life of the father and husband. The defibrillator will be in operational use across the summer months when Wallington Cricket Club plays home games.
IT took a Troy Snarey three run home run for Wallington’s Bellarine Bears A Grade side to come out on top of the Lara Wildcats 6-3 in round 7 of the Geelong Baseball Association winter season. Two hits to Snarey (3 RBIs), with a hit a piece to Wayne Visser, Simon Murry and Chris Barker kept the Bears offence threatening all day. Two RBIs to Chris Bramwell put a score on the board earlier in the game for the Bears. In yet another superb outing pitcher Murry (4 strikeouts) threw
6 scoreless innings before handing over to reliever Bramwell (1 strikeout). The Bears A Reserve side defeated Lara Wildcats 2-0. In a game where defence dominated, pitcher Josh Crotty went the complete game throwing 6 strikeouts. With the bat an Alex Hockey double was backed up with hits to Crotty (1 RBI), Tyson O'Keefe, Lachlan Stott and Dane Wise-Graham (1 RBI). In C Grade the Bellarine Bears defeated Deakin Blues 10-4. The highlights of the game were home runs to Lachlan Hockey
and Luke Sarah. With the bat Clay Metcalfe had 3 hits (2 doubles), 2 hits to Andrew Riddett and a hit to Matt Connell. Taking to the mound, pitcher Danny Nichols (5 strikeouts) went a complete game. In the Under 15 competition, the combined Bellarine/Deakin side had to settle for a 6-6 draw against Werribee. For the offence Paul Hassan starred with 2 hits, with hits also to Gordon Kustera and Chris Hockey, Starting pitcher Lachlan Hockey (6 strike outs) and reliever Hassan (2 strike outs) led the defence for Bellarine/Deakin. The Under 13 Bellarine Bears went down to East Belmont Saints 9-10. Five runs in the last innings was not enough in the end for the Bears to overrun the opposition. Two hit each to Sam Lazarus (1 double) and Zac Brady (1 double) led the Bears hitting. Pitchers Brady and Jack Wearing fought hard for the Bears on the mound.
