FOR HEALTHY LIVING Improving the nation’s health and well-being. At the Y, we believe that being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body.

Arcadia Branch

YCares Financial Assistance provided 320 individuals with programs and memberships. Arcadia’s Schools Out Program provided after school care for 75 students in the Charlestown, Hope Valley, and Richmond Elementary Schools. In 2015, we collaborated with the R.I. Blood Center, Chariho Rotary, Weight Watchers, Richmond Senior Center, local emergency responders, and the Richmond Cub Scouts. In addition, we hosted weekly GED and Drivers Ed classes, and meetings for Students Against Destructive Decisions. We hosted events for families including Healthy Kids Day, Family Nights, Celebrate with Santa, and a family day at Camp Watchaug following our annual Ray Cherenzia Back Road Ramble 5k.

Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch

YCares Financial Assistance provided 1,877 individuals with programs and memberships. We are grateful to our many partners for collaborating with us to deliver innovative solutions to critical social problems impacting our communities: Westerly Public Schools; Town of Westerly’s Substance Abuse Task Force; Special Olympics of RI; Olean Center; Westerly Parent Academy; RI Blood Center; Lawrence & Memorial Westerly Hospital; Neuro Restorative; Westerly Transition Academy and RI Silent Camp.

We taught nearly 2,300 youth and teens to swim and certified 35 lifeguards. More than 220 youth and teens participated in our fun and energetic wellness initiatives including Youth Wellness Center Training, Kids Yoga and Spinning, Teens on Machines and Kid F.I.T. These programs are designed to keep youth active and fight obesity. The Branch hosted events and races including: Healthy Kids Day, Breakfast with Santa, Schonning Road Race, Red Cross Blood Drives, Flu Clinics, OCY Triathalon, Family Nights and Halloween Spooktacular.

Mystic Branch

YCares Financial Assistance provided 875 individuals with programs and membership. In 2015, we collaborated with the following organizations to better serve Mystic and surrounding communities: The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center; Groton Parks & Recreation; Mystic Museum of Art; American Red Cross; Stonington School District; NESS; Americorps; Enders Island; Ledge Light Health District; Sound Community; Merrill House; New London School District; Mystic Little League; Mystic Babe Ruth Baseball; Girls on the Run; Stonington Free Library; The Williams School; Mystic Schooners Baseball and Grasso Tech. We taught more than 1,779 swim lessons and trained and certified 48 lifeguards. The Mystic Branch hosted community events including Healthy Kids Day, Easter Egg Hunt, Senior Health & Wellness Day, Mystic Halloween Parade, Tarzan Brown Road Race, Mystic River Valley Triathlon, Turkey Trot Road Race and Breakfast with Santa.
