Corn vases were m made by numerous glass h houses and produced in massive quantities. Most of these decorative glass vases were not maker marked. I think your vase was made sometime between World War I and II. My guess is perhaps the Dugan Glass Company made it. I suggest you send a good, clear photograph to Replacements Ltd. Watering efficiently is another important principle. Using less water helps to protect our natural resources. Micro irrigation and using mulch are great ways to save water in your landscape. We stress appropriate fertilization, especially only fertilize when grass is actively growing, and time your fertilization so it is not before a heavy rain.

Is this a good time to plant muscadine grapes? I just went to a u-pick field of muscadines, and I love them and want to grow grapes at my house. Muscadine grapes are a wonderful addition to an edible landscape or home garden. It is one of our true native fruits. Muscadine grape or Vitis rotundifolia is native to southeastern United States. The grapes are either black or bronze, with thick skins and seeds. They are very tolerant of

our sandy soils and most insects and diseases. You can plant potted grapes at any time, and bare-rooted plants should be planted in the dormant season which is December and January. Put them in full sun, and train the vines to a trellis, arbor or a fence. Make sure you regularly irrigate the plants while they are establishing. There are quite a few good cultivars well suited for North Central Florida. You should chat with the farmer you visited to

find the cultivar that you fell in love with, and certainly seek that one out. Favorite local cultivars that are commonly planted are Alachua, Supreme, Cowart, Jumbo and Southland (black) and Carlos, Dixie, Fry, Summit and Triumph (bronze). Jumbo and Fry are female types and need to be planted with another cultivar of muscadine to be productive. Local fruit tree nurseries will carry a few of these types. You will need to fertilize the

vines a few times a year with a balanced fertilizer. The biggest chore for muscadines is pruning. A hard pruning is done every year in the early spring to keep the plants healthy and productive. my well house. We had a drought seven years ago and my well also got dry, so I stopped using well water. Do you think the well is filling up with water and causing the ground to become soft in the spot, and is starting to cause a sinkhole? Also, I had a fence built close to the well house and the digging could have created a problem. What do you suggest I do? If a well goes dry, the soils around the well could shrink and a minor sinkhole could appear at the surface. When you stop using the well, surface water likely will accumulate near the well shaft and the soils will swell and expand slightly rather than shrink as the water begins to soak into the upper soils. My experience with sinkholes is mostly with mine subsidence, which occurs when an excavated mine shaft collapses deep in the earth. As soils above begin to fill the mine shaft, the soils will flow into the mine like the sands in an hourglass, creating sinkholes that can be as much as 50 yards in diameter at the surface. Any structure above the failed mine shaft will experience major structural damage. Sinkholes also appear when groundwater

If you have a major sinkhole affecting a building near the well, it is likely the well did not “go dry,” but the flow of groundwater was redirected, leaving a cavity that filled with soil. Prolonged pumping can lower the water table, which in turn alters the direction of groundwater movement. The water is still there, but it is no longer near your well. Lowering the water table can lead to contaminates entering the groundwater and can have an adverse effect on plant and animal life near the well. If you decide to drill a new well, make sure to test the water for coliform and heavy metals before consuming the water. It is very unlikely the fence posts caused a sinkhole to form.

eter Facinelli, who plays doctors in the “Twilight” films and the “Nurse Jackie” television series, and his ex-wife, actress Jennie Garth, have sold their home in Toluca Lake for $3.99 million. The buyer is “The Big Bang Theory” co-creator Bill Prady. The Paul Williams-designed traditional house, built in 1937, has a long Hollywood history. It was once the home of country singer and actor Tex Ritter and the childhood home of his son, the late actor John Ritter. Enlarged since Williams’ day and renovated, the house has six

bedrooms, eight bathrooms and 8,416 square feet of living space. There are Facinelli formal living and dining rooms, a bar room, a game room, a kitchen fireplace, dual master bedroom suites, a gym, a media room and two offices. The gated, nearly half-acre property contains a five-car garage, an outdoor kitchen and a swimming pool. Facinelli, 39, has played “vegan” vampire and Cullen family leader Dr.

They are so simple — just a few straps of metal form the faintest outlines of a globe — but they are bursting with drama. And with their aged patina, they are ideal tools for fall decorating. Here are some ideas to inspire you. An orb can bring structure to a bouquet of fall foliage without stifling it. A glorious display that once sat at the center of my outdoor dining table was a snap to make. We treat the orb’s interior as a stage, filled with all sorts of interesting elements. One time, we inserted a bronze English equestrian statue. You could use all kinds of figurines that speak of fall. Realistic faux birds would also be lovely, like pheasants, quail or owls. Not one for arranging intricate displays? Try this trick. Rest an orb on the mouth of an urn, then stick in an assortment of fall foliage. It’s so easy, you don’t have to be good at flower-arranging to pull it off. (I say this

because I am not good at flower-arranging.) I recently talked about using lanterns in fall decor. Think about combining both of these fabulous tools in one great display. For example, open an orb to insert a lantern holding a battery-operated candle. (This would be ideal with a candle that works with a remote control or timer so you wouldn’t have to hassle with opening up the lantern to light it.)
