FOREWORD BY MARK KUHN
We love building cool stuff. This simple motto has been a driving factor in the products and experiences we have delivered over the years – in some majorly cool industries – and it is (no joke) written in large letters on the walls of our office. This past year is the first time we chose to drill down into the core of what Oat Foundry innovation and problem solving truly means and how it can elevate our internal product design: what more cool analog stuff can we build, and for whom? When we develop anything new, it is always defined by a few main tenets – the products must have a surprise & delight factor, some amount of utility, and of course, they have to be responsive. These are sensory experiences after all – it’s part of what makes Oat Foundry’s cool stuff so captivating when compared to the ubiquitous glow of a screen. In the following pages you will see some of our absolute favorite Split Flaps, including those shipping to an entirely new market: Cannabis Dispensaries. As part of our focus on developing more Oat Foundry products, we discovered that customer education is the largest challenge for new-to-cannabis fans – there are just so many flowers, tinctures, and concentrates out there that have so many different effects. Split Flaps were already being used as menu boards, so how can we help new customers find the perfect product in an approachable way? This interesting problem statement timed up with a fortuitous meeting and grew into an exciting partnership. In just a few short months, Oat Foundry’s product development team, in conjunction with our like-minded friends at budboard, created an amazing new analog experience in Mellowtron™. Mellowtron is an interactive, AI-powered cannabis recommendation experience that looks like an old school sound engineering mixing board. We debuted this product at MJBizCon 2021 in Las Vegas to rave reviews and will be shipping units to our multi-state operator partners as early as Summer 2022. From our growing team at Oat Foundry, welcome to Analog.
Thank you, Mark Kuhn IV CEO

ANALOG TECHNOLOGY BY JOSH CORCORAN
What I love about Oat Foundry’s mission to ‘Build Cool Stuff’ is that it casts a wide net to create within. In the past, our ‘Stuff’ has ranged from vinyl record dividers, to custom machinery, to sending a can of coffee to space. With each new project, we pushed the limit of what was possible; challenging our team to grow purposefully and, against all odds, always rising to the occasion (...and in the case of the coffee we literally rose 100,000 feet!). While a great deal of love went into each of these projects, there is nothing that can compare to the sheer joy from the wave of nostalgia that washes over a person seeing our Split Flap come to life. It’s as if our time with this technology was stolen from us – abruptly cut short by the world’s ever-present pursuit of digital revolution. As we settle into the aftermath, we find ourselves inundated with televisions, tablets, and that pesky phone in your pocket conjuring new ways to steal your attention. The click of a dial, the clack of a flap: tactile experiences designed to make you feel something in a cold, digital world. We know not everyone values the warmth of a vinyl record over the immediacy of streaming music, but the artists do. Analog technology is Oat Foundry’s palette. If we can paint the intelligence of the modern world on canvases from the past, we have a true opportunity to create masterpieces. And there’s nothing cooler than that.
Thank you, Josh Corcoran Director of Business Development

SHEET METAL Oat Foundry has been working with General Metal Company for years. We love that they’re a local business and continuously supply us with the high quality sheet metal we rely on for both Split Flap and Picture Flap signs. Sheets of carbon steel are rolled to size. A laser cuts out the various shapes used throughout the superstructure of each Split Flap and Picture Flap. The path the laser takes, zig-zagging through the steel, is the result of months of design and iteration work. This ensures that every piece fits into the next, as seamless and as strong as the last. Expert technicians at General Metal Company with years of experience bend these flat laser cut sheets by hand into complex geometries, forming the base part. From there, they check critical dimensions before heading off to the powder coating booth. Here, technicians spray an even coating of electrostatic particles that stick to the grounded bare metal parts. The parts then pass through a curing oven, where they are heated to change the chemical makeup of the powder, forming a durable long-lasting coating. The parts are then cooled and bagged before their 15 minute journey down the road to our door.

Picture Flaps are assembled a bit differently. Modules utilize an intricate, finely tuned gear train to achieve the higher torque required to turn flaps that are six times the size of Split Flap. Once this unique, larger gear train has been assembled, it can be joined with another one of our custom-designed printed circuit boards that will drive the motor. These components are affixed to the module sheet metal. Before mounting modules, a network of backplanes must be wired and fastened to the wall to create the array of rows and columns, creating the aspect ratio of the larger images that will flip through on the Picture Flap. After assembly onto the wall, flaps are populated, the collage slowly but surely taking shape. From there it’s time to test.

CRATING Crates are custom made for our analog technology products to get a snug fit for the long road ahead. We build each crate to suit, just like its contents. It starts with a foundation of thick plywood cross-braced with heat-treated pine planks atop cleats. Walls and a top are fabricated in a similar fashion of plywood with rough lumber bracing. The inside of the crate is then lined with a medium density polyethylene foam to provide some cushion for transit. Our friends over at Arrow Crating and Packaging add some finishing touches before crossing the Betsy Ross Bridge to drop the crate off at our shop. From there, our technicians carefully individually pack each module into the crate for safe stowage during the trip.

SHIPPING Our analog technology may move between a myriad of trucks, trailers, planes, and containers on its journey, with dozens of touchpoints in between. Working with our local dispatch, we ensure the crate is safely loaded onto the first truck. From city to city, country to country, we monitor the movement of the crate every step of the way. We work with the on-site team to ensure everything is ready for the arrival of the display. Once it’s navigated loading docks and doorways, it’s ready to uncrate and install.

INSTALLATION Our team takes extra care in the handling of every display to get it to its destination safely and on time. We work with local installers to answer any questions – or lend a helping hand ourselves when the occasion arises. From the time we put the first screw into a carousel wheel for it to hold a set of flaps to the last screw we put into the crate before shipping, there have been hundreds of quality checks along the way and thousands of touchpoints by our trained assembly staff and network of suppliers to ensure the display not only functions as designed, but that it does so for years to come. Seeing a new piece of analog tech in the wild, introducing a host of new people in a new location to something different; it never gets old. We’re always looking forward to the next Split Flap or Picture Flap coming online in a town near you.

INTRODUCING MELLOWTRON BY KRYSTAL SHANNON
Mellowtron is our newest addition to the analog technology arsenal. It’s an interactive, AI-powered cannabis recommendation experience. Oat Foundry’s custom analog technology shop created a mixing board that is driven by budboard’s industry-leading data that can categorize strains and products, ensuring the most consistent cannabis experience for the customer. Budboard’s proprietary machine learning system is trained on data from dispensaries serving approximately 200,000 users. Mellowtron was created for exploration at dispensaries. 92% of cannabis customers want good product advice when they go into a dispensary, so why not empower them to give their wants and needs as a way to get that. The cannabis industry as a whole is expanding at an astronomical rate and the people who identify as “canna-curious” are outpacing the active users. These users come with a very different problem – they don’t know much about cannabis so they shy away from experimenting. That’s where we came in and how Mellowtron was born. At its core, this product is a cannabis recommendation engine. We conceptualized it to solve the main problem of which strain of cannabis you should consume to achieve the effect you desire. We pushed ourselves to solve an age-old problem of information overload from an industry that is rapidly changing. Dispensaries are seeing people shy away from screens, asking questions, and trying new products. With the ease of Mellowtron and the beautiful aesthetic of Split Flap, we wanted to help. Mellowtron makes cannabis exploration inviting and fun. We are currently taking orders.

Spring 2022
We went into Vegas with the plan to have our Split Flap and Mellowtron in action at the Grasslands Annual Cannabis Party, showcasing with SevenPoint Interiors on the convention floor, and back in action at Top Tree Agency’s Party. Over 650 people got to test drive the Mellowtron experience. Guests went through the entire process of walking up to the control center, making their choices on how they wanted to feel, and then received their recommendations immediately. We had access to the inventory of the cannabis products being served at Grasslands’ party as options for people to try once their choices had been made. Split Flap was able to become a true Vegas showstopper with the hidden feature of a modulate button to trigger animations on the board on demand. We decided to take the “LIVE” aspect a step further the next night at Top Tree’s party with instant messages being displayed from influencers and party-goers. As the night progressed we even got to hang out with retired NFL star and Heisman winner Ricky Williams. He was debuting his cannabis line called “Highsman” and absolutely loved playing with Split Flap and testing Mellowtron. MJBizCon and Vegas were a huge success and definitely a convention we will be traveling to in the future. From the connections we made to the industry leaders giving us feedback, having that many influential people in the cannabis industry in one spot was priceless to the evolution of Mellowtron and how Oat Foundry could better serve the growing demand.

GUARDHOUSE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
Guardhouse is the newest addition to the Frankford Arsenal in the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Renowned chefs Khoran Horn and Matthew Gansert imagined a cafe space where they can exercise their culinary excellence and provide the businesses in the Arsenal with a new hangout. Guardhouse is located just steps away from Oat Foundry’s headquarters. As a “welcome to the campus” gift, we partnered with Khoran and Matt to install a Split Flap right in the cafe. The Split Flap frequently displays quotes, train times to Center City, daily specials and menu items – easily giving many newcomers a sight they have never seen before. The board is a stock display fitting perfectly into the minimalist design throughout Guardhouse.

Spring 2022
Our second patent granted in 2021 is the Fast Box, which we proudly built for our hometown Philadelphia Eagles. Fast Box is different from Split Flap, but it is still rooted in a history of analog tech. Analog technology is a perfect fit for the NFL, since they have strict rules about screens and Wifi on the sidelines. Fast Box is a flip disc display enclosed in a rugged, fluorescent case that can be seen from up to fifty yards away. The Eagles contacted us back in 2019 to figure out a new way to communicate with their defense from the sideline. The coaching staff grew tired of poster boards that would get ruined on the road and during inclement weather. With the lightweight and weatherproof Fast Box, the simple turn of a few dials and a press of a button quickly signals plays to the defensive team. The upgrade to Fast Box has saved the Eagles eight seconds off of their defensive play-calling. Eager to gain a similar edge, other NFL teams have adopted the play calling strategy, including the New York Jets. Receiving a non-provisional patent is a milestone no matter what type of patent it is. We owe a special thank you to our patent lawyer Joe Maenner, staff, and our in-house inventors of cool stuff.

LOOKING FORWARD BY KRISTY NICOLO
The beauty of looking forward lies in the knowledge gained from looking back. At Oat Foundry, we have a passion for analog technologies and the power of nostalgia. We are attuned to the increasingly digital world and how we can embrace the past while offering a seamless and unforgettable experience to our clients. Beyond our intuitive WebApp, we have programmed real-time flight trackers, old-school video games, poetry generators – and even linked the Split Flap to a jumbotron for an unforgettable moment when the home team scores. That is just the beginning. In 2021, we found wonder in embracing the Split Flap as a medium to show data in motion. As we set our sights on 2022, we ask how we can make our analog offerings smarter, more agile, and interactive. Can we pair technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning with a Split Flap? Can we boost interactivity with control panels and motion sensors? We think so. Beyond Split Flap, Picture Flap, and Fast Box, we are inspired to reimagine even more analog technologies. Above all, we want to hear from you, to be challenged in this new year.
Thank you, Kristy Nicolo Director of Sales

IN CLOSING BY KRYSTAL SHANNON
This is my first year at Oat Foundry and I came into an incredibly talented and creative team. I started working on this Lookbook in the summer of 2021 and began with getting new photos and videos of some of our favorite projects. We had featured our products in numerous different ways in the past, but wanted this lookbook to be different. We wanted it to reintroduce ourselves to the world. I had a vision of this being a larger publication that would go out annually as well as a way to showcase Oat Foundry’s new direction as a company. We now identify as a custom analog technologies company and will continue to innovate in that space. We pride ourselves on the craftsmanship we produce, and this lookbook is no different. What you don’t see in this book is the growth of our internal team and the fun we have together. We have doubled in size in the past year and continue to do so. We will be expanding our headquarters to fill another 6,000 square feet across the hall in the Arsenal Building located in the Bridesburg neighborhood in Philadelphia. This lookbook is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication Oat Foundry puts into each product we build.
Thank you, Krystal Shannon Director of Marketing
P.S. A special thanks goes out to Sarah Van Bemmel, Matt Kelly, and Thomas Bulzacchelli for all your help with this stunning lookbook.

Oat Foundry
COMING SOON This year, Oat Foundry will be expanding across the hall in the Frankford Arsenal Building 208 to a 6,000 square foot space. We really pushed ourselves in 2021 to grow, and now we will be building the largest Split Flap in Oat Foundry history. Our world class production team will have an all new assembly area. We will also be designing the space to include: a new large conference room, a photography studio, a soundproof office, a new lobby, and a Hall of History. 131
