The Tache Fire Department Station #1 Lorette has lost one of their long time volunteers after the recent retirement of District Fire Chief René Gougeon. Gougeon announced his retirement at the beginning of January after seventeen years of service. “Being a firefighter in Lorette will stay with me forever, with lasting memories and friendships,” Gougeon stated. Gougeon thanks his wife and family for the sacrifices they had to make to ensure his success. “I'd also like to thank all the other firefighters, past and present, who have been part of this journey with me,” he added. “The RM of Taché is very lucky to have such a great group of dedicated women and men who help protect and serve their communities.” RM of Tache councilor and fellow fire fighter Steve Stein says that Gougeon will be greatly missed by the entire department. Wildlife Haven Fishing Derby Raises Funds for Pelicans

On January 26, approximately 100 brave ice fishing participants took to the ice in Lockport to help raise funds for Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre. The Pelican Ice-Fishing Derby was held to raise funds for the care and upkeep of several pelicans currently wintering at the centre. “The energy last Saturday was amazing! We were blown away by the success of the

event! Despite the freezing cold temperature, we had 100 brave participants come out to fish!” Stated a spokesperson. “We want to thank every single one of you for your participation and time.” Over $2,000 was raised to help feed the two pelicans for the rest of the winter. The largest catch of the day was a 20 inch walleye.
