New Faculty Members Mr. Gary Duranko Mr. Duranko joins Oak Hill Academy as a math and science teacher. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Penn State University where he met his wife Gail. He left his job as an engineer in 2001 to pursue a career in education. Mr. Duranko taught math, astronomy, and physics at Salem High School in New Hampshire for 16 years before coming to Oak Hill. He also coached boy’s tennis for 10 years. Mr. Duranko enjoys playing tennis, riding bikes, astronomy, watching movies with his wife, reading, and playing with his two dogs. He and Gail have two daughters, Jill and Megan.

Ms. Gena Hall Ms. Hall is returning to Oak Hill as a resident manager in Hough Dormitory, a position she held at the school 12 years ago. During her time away from the school, she worked for the Blue Ridge Job Corps as a career counselor, case manager, and ACT college coordinator. All of these positions centered around assisting students. Originally from Marion, Virginia, Ms. Hall is close with her family and spends time with them often. She enjoys traveling, animals, cooking, reading autobiographies and documentaries, and visiting New York City. Ms. Hall is excited for the opportunity to return to OHA. She looks forward to meeting the students and getting reacquainted with the staff. She says both make it a place like no other.

Mr. Ken Hunnewell Having taught at Oak Hill during the 2013-2014 school year, Mr. Hunnewell has returned as a science and math teacher. Mr. Hunnewell received his bachelor’s degree in geology from Rutgers University and worked in the construction industry as a project manager and estimator until 2007. He then decided to pursue a career in education and received his master’s degree in physics education from Kennesaw State University. He has worked as a science teacher since 2010. Mr. Hunnewell enjoys gardening, skiing, stargazing, cartooning, and writing science fiction stories. He and wife Joan have two daughters, Erin, a recent University of Georgia graduate, and Tara, a University of Georgia student.

Mrs. Anita Perkins Mrs. Perkins joins Oak Hill Academy as a school nurse. Mrs. Perkins graduated from the Twin County School of Practical Nursing and has worked as a nurse for 30 years. She and her husband Denny have two children: Nick, a wild land firefighter, and Caysee, who is enrolled in paramedic school. Some of Mrs. Perkins’ hobbies include hiking, cooking, and reading. She also volunteers with the Rugby Rescue Squad as an Emergency Medical Technician and enjoys helping them with fundraising events. Mrs. Perkins looks forward to seeing the students when she is on duty.

Mrs. Yvonne Rodgers Mrs. Rodgers, a familiar face on campus, has recently taken on a full-time role at OHA as the registrar and academic office administrative assistant. She will also continue in her role as the uniform manager. No stranger to “The Hill,” Mrs. Rodgers has been on campus for 14 years as a faculty spouse and parent of two alumni. Mrs. Rodgers and her husband Mike (OHA Director of Admission) are the parents of four children, Khelan, Alex, Mikey, and Max. She is very happy to be more involved in the student’s experience at Oak Hill Academy and to be part of a team that she already considers friends.
