OAKHAM CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERT Saturday 11 December Oakham Choral Society & Orchestra Handel Foundling Hospital Anthem Mozart Horn Concerto No. 1 in D, K.412 Purcell Come, ye sons of art Owen Amende horn Eliza Cohen Gregory, Evie Holder, Siddharth Banerjee & Zsolti Johnson vocal soloists Harry Jacques & Peter Davis conductors The Oakham Choral Society is pleased to return to the concert stage for the first time in two years with a focus on two notable Baroque choral works. Their programme will open with Purcell’s joyful Ode for the Birthday of Queen Mary in 1694, Come, ye sons of art. Celebratory choral and solo movements (largely performed by talented Oakham School singers) interweave in this secular work, which also serves as a prelude to a performance of Mozart’s first horn concerto by talented Form 7 Music Scholar, Owen Amende. Handel’s Foundling Hospital Anthem (‘Blessed are they that considered the poor and needy’) completes the programme, and this is a composition which premiered in 1749 in which Handel freely borrows from his own back catalogue. Most notably, the work concludes with a reprise of the most famous movement from the composer’s oratorio, Messiah – the Hallelujah Chorus! Chapel 7.30pm Tickets £8 via WeGotTickets.com
