RED BULLS AT PORTLAND TIMBERS – MARCH 3, 2013 – 7:30 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD RED BULLS START 2013 CAMPAIGN AT PORTLAND The New York Red Bulls open their 2013 MLS season facing the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field on Sunday, March 3 at 7:30 PM ET. New York is looking forward to a successful 2013 campaign and continue a run which has seen it earn postseason season berths in nine of the last 10 seasons. Led by new Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh and Head Coach Mike Petke, who will be making his debut at the helm, the Red Bulls return a number of players, including MLS Most Valuable Player finalist and MLS Best XI selection Thierry Henry, Australian midfielder Tim Cahill and American midfielder Dax McCarty. In addition, New York added a number of key players such as former Brazilian International Juninho, 2010 MLS Defender of the Year Jamison Olave and his former Real Salt Lake teammate Fabian Espindola and 2011 MLS Cup winner Kosuke Kimura. The Red Bulls also re-signed Academy product Connor Lade, defender/midfielder Brandon Barklage and goalkeeper Ryan Meara to new contracts. New York wrapped up its preseason last weekend after spending over five weeks between Florida and Arizona in camp getting ready for the campaign. The Red Bulls start with two straight road games before hosting D.C. United in their home opener on March 16 at Red Bull Arena at 12:30 PM (TV: NBC). Tickets are available for that match by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com. The Timbers finished last year in eighth place in the Western Conference with 34 points off an 8-16-10 record. Portland is led by first-year head coach Caleb Porter and the Timbers wrapped up preseason play with a 11 tie against Swedish first division side, AIK, at JELD-WEN Field, finishing with a 3-2-2 record. On the field, Portland made a number of acquisitions, bringing on former Real Salt Lake midfielder Will Johnson, experienced Argentine Diego Valeri and Jamaican forward Ryan Johnson. Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts played 33 games between stints with the Montreal Impact and the Timbers last year while 2010 Hermann Trophy winner and third-year forward Darlington Nagbe notched six goals and one assist in 2012. The Red Bulls are 2-0-1 all-time against Portland, with New York winning the teams’ last showdown, 3-2, on Aug. 19, 2012 at Red Bull Arena. In that match, the Red Bulls recovered from a two-goal deficit and defender Heath Pearce headed in the game-winner seven minutes from full time. New York has played once at JELD-WEN Field against Portland: a wild 3-3 tie on June 19, 2011.
