JOB PURPOSE To lead and manage the Lowther Castle and Gardens project. To work with partners, government funding bodies, the Lowther Estates, investors, national cultural institutions, commercial partners, University Institutions, Government Departments and planning authorities to deliver a visitor destination of national/international standing. The role is highly visible and operates at a senior level. The main task will be to manage the interests of all parties in delivering a highly complex multi disciplined and transformational project that will stimulate the Cumbria Economy. The role will be to manage the development of the project to practical completion. All matters of funding, planning, access and project direction will be the responsibility of the post holder. The role may also include the taking of responsibility for project management and operational tasks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Manage a complex range of stakeholder relationships
Manage contract delivery partners to secure the effective delivery of the project
Secure public and private sector investments into the development programme
Manage, amend and achieve the project’s outputs and milestones
Authorise deviation from plan
To be ultimately responsible for the Lowther project and any decisions to be made on the project.
Support the Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust
Act as secretariat for the project Steering Group
Communicate information about the project to stakeholders as required.
Ensure risks are monitored and managed.
Day-to-day management of key Projects / Programmes to time, quality, budget
Manage interface with Lowther Estates as key surrounding landowner
Marketing of the project to visitors at practical completion
Reporting against project programming
Acting as Secretariat to the Steering Committee
Reporting to the Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust
Reporting outputs to key funding partners including the Big Lottery and HLF
Delivery of key strategic, complex, high risk projects and programmes of work
DECISION MAKING You will be responsible for managing a significant project with associated programmes of work with budgets into the millions. You will be responsible for ensuring the project stays on track and will be responsible for ensuring delivery against Contracts. You will need to: • Manage resourcing •

PLANNING AND ORGANISING For this role you will need
Exceptional Planning & Organisation skills.
A proven track record in project management
A proven track record in developing cultural visitor attractions and event management
Tourism product and marketing development skills

Excellent capability of ensuring all project files are well organised and kept up-to-date
Capability to manage time to ensure where issues arise they can be resolved

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Substantial experience of managing large complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrable experience of working within the tourism field. Educated to post graduate level in an appropriate discipline
Ability to use influencing and communication skills to gain support and understanding of Directors and senior management regarding project management techniques.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain positive and productive interdepartmental and senior stakeholder working relationships.
Knowledge of technical, legislative and regulatory frameworks that relate to project management within the public sector.
Understanding of the work of the public sector bodies
Demonstrable essential management skills; leadership, communication, negotiation, problem solving; Self reliance, enthusiasm, problem solving, team leading attributes
Experience of working in a structured and unstructured Project Management environment
