Family Film Night Series

Write the story of your mother’s life with the help of professional advice and the support of a small group!

It’s family film night - for the whole community!

Learn how to get started writing, and how you can submit your story to potentially be included in a theatre production at Presentation House Theatre in March 2012.

Come by with the whole family to watch some fantastic family films on the big screen in the Community Meeting Room. All films start at 6:30pm and run until approximately 8:30pm.

Each workshop consists of two sessions. Registration is required.

Crazy Chemistry at the Library

Saturday, September 24, 11:00am – 12:00pm Children ages 5 to 9 are invited to a fun session exploring chemistry. Elena Kropova, aka Mrs. Potter, will conduct experiments and lead the children in creating chemical reactions. Registration is required. This program is co-sponsored with North Shore Neighbourhood House.

English Conversation Corner

Mondays, 7:30pm – 8:45pm, Come and practise your English-language skills with a fun group of new speakers. This program is presented in partnership with the Bahá’í of North Vancouver. Free; no registration required. Participants must have some knowledge of English.

Philosopher’s Café Series, presented by SFU

Second Wednesday of each month, 7:00pm – 8:45pm Join us for vibrant street-level discussions moderated by Mark Battersby, PhD. The session on September 14 addresses aging and age discrimination. Is this a case of justified differences, or prejudice? Should young males pay more for car insurance? Should professionals over a certain age be forced to retire? No registration required. A $5 SFU administration fee will be collected at the door of each event.

BOOK LAUNCH: The Life and Art of Mildred Valley Thornton

Wednesday, September 7, 7:00pm – 8:45pm Join us for the launch of Sheryl Salloum’s new book, The Life and Art of Mildred Valley Thornton. At this event, the author will discuss her book, and will share details about the life of Mildred Valley Thornton, for whom the book is named. Thornton was an accomplished landscape and portrait artist, a noted journalist, a Vancouver Sun art critic, a book reviewer and a published poet. Free; everyone welcome. Registration required.
