FRIENDS CORNER by Meghan Radomske Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library Executive Chair The Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library are excited to ring in 2011, and to fundraise for our “Excite Your Library Experience” campaign. Curl up with a book beside the cozy fireplace at Capilano Library this winter—a gift the Friends fundraised for last fall! Keep an eye on Parkgate Branch Library for a brand-new study room, and on Capilano Branch Library for a cozy reading nook, all courtesy of the Friends’ donation of $5000. In 2011, we hope to raise funds for an improved reading lounge at Lynn Valley Main Library. This year, the Friends are hosting an additional book sale in February. Please help support the 2011 Summer Reading Club and contribute to our “Excite Your Library Experience” fundraising campaign by joining us on February 25th, 26th, and 27th for our next Big Book Sale! We will have excellent deals with books, kids’ items, DVDs, CDs, and more, priced from $0.50-$2.00. If you would like to volunteer at the event in exchange for 10 free books, please email Meghan at friendsnvdpl@gmail.com. Secondary school students, this is a great opportunity for you to get volunteer hours for school! Please join us on Saturday, January 15th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the District Library Gallery on the second floor of Lynn Valley Main Library for an art reception featuring artist Nicola Morgan. This is a chance to chat with the artist, enjoy beautiful art, and enjoy some free refreshments. Interested in learning more about the Friends of the Library? Join us at our Friends of the Library Executive Members Info Session on Monday, January 24th at 7:00pm in the Lynn Valley Main Library Boardroom on the third floor to learn about each of the executive roles. Or, email your questions to friendsnvdpl@gmail.com. You can also pick up a brochure from your local branch, or stop by our booth at Lynn Valley Main Library on Tuesday, January 11th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm to chat with one of our enthusiastic volunteers!
