Nunawading Cricket Club - Round 3 Welcome to season 2010 to 2011 Highlights of this issue

From the Scribe The one thing that has seriously impressed The Scribe so far this season is the constant communication and positive message from new coach Paul “Harro” Harrison. Harro has planned and coordinated training well with clear, set agendas and an always positive tone. Backed up by the message from Steve “El Presidente” Morilly about playing to win and the end results spoke for themselves in Round 1 with four very solid performances and two really good wins.

ruling by the Association awarding the match to Eley Park on the basis of Nunawading refusing to take the field when (at no stage) were they requested or ordered to do so, the Third XI seem intent on going a couple of steps further. The Scribe would love to see them succeed.

With a combined age of 2,612 the Third XI prides itself on being a combination of old blokes worthy of any ANZAC Day march except most of them would snub it in preference to Steve Morilly has somehow been inspired by watching the Pies play the Bombers and an Barrack Obama and has assumed leadership of elite cricketing unit who one day hope to be the club in overdue generational change. The club is also bringing back the Club Champion Award in which training sessions will now count towards the trophy.

Now that the season has commenced, training at the club returns back to normal. That’s 5.30 to 7.30 Tuesday and Thursdays For those that don’t know (or have forgotten). Great way to get fit, improve those skills and perhaps produce that match winning performance on Saturday.

2nd Captai ns Report The two played Elgar Park at home. We batted first and were all out for 178 in the last over. I was happy with the team effort to reach the total. Two batsmen went on with their starts. Corey batted very well for his 35 and was unlucky to get out to an excellent catch. Scott Millar was very solid and was also out to an excellent catch for 14. Christian James will benefit from the hit and contributed well for his 16. In reply we were better placed run wise at the 20 over mark as they were about 20 runs behind what we had been. The difference was they were only 1 down and their top order then played with freedom to get the runs with 3 overs to spare. We can take a lot out of this game. I think we will have a very solid batting line up this season. We have to learn not to lose wickets in a group. We were 3 / 30 so recovered to make a good score. Keeping wickets intact will help us

play more freely when there is a need to accelerate. I thought our opening bowlers were far mpore threatening than theirs, and we had greater depth in bowling too. Scott O'Neill maintained the best pressure for us during their innings. Our ground fielding was very good and the team remained positive throughout. What we have to improve on is maintaining our accuracy. There were too many wides bowled. Also we have to take our chances. We dropped the opener twice. They could have been 2 / 40 odd and under much more pressure at the drinks break. I have confidence that the improvement that comes with training and then performing in matches will lead to us being a very competitive side. Kev

At The Bar Good to see the first round of the cricket season has finally been completed, no thanks to Collingwood, and we can now all move on with our lives and forget the 2010 AFL season ever happened.

On a social note next weekend (23rd/24th) is Mick Fairweather and Willy Ds’ birthday. We will be hanging around the club for drinks in celebration of these fine two humans. I’m sure Willy D’s bar will be open and there is even talk of the two birthday boys plus a few others It also good to see Lordy has made it back from his footy trip to Adelaide in one piece and wanting to complete the centurion. So make sure you stick around because this spectacle is without visiting any hospitals’. Rumour has it not to be missed that his parents are actually proud of him for once. Also don’t forget the annual Nuna poker night on Cup eve. Congratulations must go to Steve Sinclair on winning the Nunawading SuperCoach league. He does not receive any money but gets bragging rights until next season. He easily beat Mil (who finished on top) in the grand final. Looks like the Colliwobbles has become the Milwobbles. The two hot favourites going into the finals, in Lordy and Jarjar, both lost in the prelims’. The fine board (known as the Willy D fine board) has started up again and by the look of it after one week we should be having a good time in Hobart for our end of season trip. Good to see a couple of the new boys have already been fined, with the stand out being Cam who took to the field in his first game for Nuna with his pants on backwards. Monty’s season has got off to a good start with a number of fines in relation to spending the off-season at the strippers.

ASHES FACTS Bradman loved taking it to the Old Dart. In the 63 innings he played against them, the legend scored a record 5028 runs at an average of 89.78. This included 19 centuries and 12 half-centuries. British readers can take solace in the fact he was a shit bowler, with a woeful average of 51.

Trivia Quizzia This season there will three questions in each Where in the World is this? log. A Cricket Who Am I? , Where in the world is this? and Who said that? Answers to each will be posted in the following log.

Who Said That? “Whoever said 'nothings impossible' never tried to nail jell-o to a tree.”

Who Am I? I was sometimes a Wicketkeeper in ODI's for my country. I ended up playing over 50 tests and 120 ODI's. I was the captain of my side before Hooper replaced me. I retired and took up commentary, and now work at my new job at the World Cup 2003. Who am I?

Answers in next Log From the Round 2 Log: Lance Cairns, Stonehenge & Sinead O’Conner.
