WHAT IS NUCEE? The Northeastern University Center for Entrepreneurship Education (NUCEE) was created in 2010 with the vision and endowed funds of Alan McKim, the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Clean Harbors and Vice Chairman of Northeastern’s Board of Trustees. He asked faculty members Dan McCarthy and Marc Meyer, senior faculty who had also been entrepreneurs, to build an organization that helped young entrepreneurs to create new ventures based on innovative products, systems, and services. Professor Dan Gregory quickly joined as a pivotal founding member–leading the development of IDEA, Northeastern University’s venture accelerator.
Mosaic Led by Dan Gregory, NUCEE began to invest heavily in the creation of entrepreneurship supporting student organizations across campus. These student organizations were formalized into the Mosaic network in 2016.
venture mentoring network Launched in 2015, led by Dan McCarthy and alum Jeff McCarthy. The VMN quickly grew to 150+ mentors who actively engage with new ventures, applying IDEA and other methods for startup, financing, and growth. The VMN’s Mentors are now being deployed across the Northeastern campus network.

Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities 2023 Triple E Awards Entrepreneurial University of the Year Award Northeastern University, Finalist The Triple E Awards are a global recognition of efforts toward the quest for entrepreneurship and engagement in higher education. Northeastern's approach to entrepreneurship is multidimensional and experience-driven. It is about developing people who can think and do in ever-changing contexts. It is about finding faster, better ways to launch companies that drive innovation and create jobs. It is about building the community and networks that founders, VCs, and mentors need to lead change. This award is especially powerful as it recognizes the entirety of Northeastern Entrepreneurship and not just an individual program, indicating the cohesive, synergistic impact of the various players across our Global University System. LAUNCH Program: The Inaugural London Prototype Fund The LAUNCH Program at NU London utilizes lessons in entrepreneurship and innovation to develop the transferrable skills and abilities students need to propel their future prospects. Students join LAUNCH to learn how to leverage entrepreneurship to create positive change in the world. As their final project, student teams pitched to their classmates, teachers, and a panel of Boston-based Mosaic alumni, leaders, and staff for the opportunity to win the £2000 Inaugural London Prototype Fund to further their ventures. In addition, all participants were connected to the entrepreneurship resources available to them as part of the Global University System.

EVENT HIGHLIGHT Northeastern University Entrepreneurship Week The inaugural Northeastern Entrepreneurship Week highlighted all facets of the Northeastern Entrepreneurship Ecosystem. This event served as an opportunity for Northeastern community members interested in entrepreneurship to meet ventures and the different campus resources that can help them refine and launch their ideas. By highlighting our support systems and the ventures that have utilized them, we were able to connect new innovators with our resources and empower them to become successful changemakers. The week consisted of entrepreneurship workshops, a founders panel, the Northeastern Entrepreneurship Exposition (NEXPO) where our Ecosystem members tabled, and a marketplace & mixer.

Venture Testimonials The McCarthy(s) Venture Mentoring Network
“We are grateful to be a part of this ecosystem and appreciate all of the resources at our disposal. Having the mentors we have now has been important for our company as they have assisted us in not only providing great direction for next steps, but also helping us to avoid potential issues that we may not have foreseen with our limited business background. Small pieces of advice have turned into big gains for us as a company.” – Erica C., Co-Founder of Rahoo Baby
“Being a part of the VMN community has given me the knowledge and insight to move my business forward. Being one of the ventures gives me peace of mind knowing that I have someone behind me that pushes me to think like an entrepreneur, challenge the status-quo, and identify the errors I am making. The VMN experience has changed my business all the way to core.” – Evan E., Founder of Go Goldens
“It has been great to be able to interact with and learn from a distinguished figure in our industry that is there to guide us through the work we do. The VMN experience has allowed our venture to develop with guidance from a knowledgeable mentor, allowing for better development of ourselves as entrepreneurs.” -Sebastian O., Co-Founder of Ichosia

Mentor Testimonials
“By mentoring at VMN I inspire and give advice to entrepreneurs and their teams to bring to market products and technologies that positively impact the world. To have a small part in that mission gives me great satisfaction. A piece of advice for entrepreneurs, seek out someone who has been in your “shoes” so to speak as an entrepreneur. You can gain excellent insights, advice and true empathy from those who have walked in a similar path before!” -Marjorie Radlo-Zandi, Mentor
“[I enjoyed] working with talented motivated students, VMN staff, interacting with other mentors, and all the associated social events. Hands down, for me, [the most rewarding about mentoring in the VMN] has been watching students gain proficiency and confidence in converting their ideas and vision into actual advancing ventures.” – James L. Sherley, M.D., Ph.D, Mentor
