Play your sport while on holiday here NUKU’ALOFA (Tonga Holiday): Sports in Tonga offers a variety of activities for tourists and locals alike. There are so many different sports and you can join the locals and enjoy your favourite sport. The Ministry of Internal Affairs hold the Healthy Tonga program with the Fiefia Sports – which is held every week and features a number of different sports, including netball, volleyball and touch rugby. You can contact the different sports organizations and ask them for details – even make a booking so that you can be able to get there and play. Here are some of the sports and their contacts that you can use: 1. TASANOC (Tonga Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee) TASANOC would have the list of sports and contacts. They can be contacted through their Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General, Takitoa Taumoepeau on email: takitoa.taumoepeau@gmail.com or tasanoc.sg@gmail.com 2. Tonga Rugby Union Tonga Rugby Union would have the contacts of rugby teams and clubsides or officials, if you want to team up with any of them. Their rugby co-ordinator is Siaosi Fakaosi and he can be contacted on email: sf2350@gmail.com 3. Tonga Football If you want to play football or soccer, let the Tonga Football Association know. You can get Lui on email and facebook: lui.kosta.m@gmail.com or Facebook: Muavesi Lui Kostatino 4 Tonga Netball There is a netball court now in the middle of Nuku’alofa – between the Post Office and the BSP Bank. You can get down there and play the sport if you want to. Contact Salote Sisifa on email: papesja@gmail.com or Facebook: Tonga Netball They can tell you if there are teams playing or when you can go down to the court or anywhere else you might want to go and play netball at.

5. Tonga Golf You can go and enjoy the 9-hole Tonga Golf Course at ‘Atele. The clubhouse is open all day, except Sundays, and they also have a bar to offer you a drink. Swimming You can go and be part of the swimming classes or just go for a swim at the open pools in Touliki – the naval base or the one opposite the Friendly Islander Hotel. You can contact the Malolo Swim Club on their Facebook Page: Malolo Swim Club or the Hakula Swim Club on their Facebook: Hakula Swim Club. 7. Shooting If you are a shooting fan, then maybe the new Matakieua Shooting Range will be the place for you to visit. Get in touch with the Shooting Association of Tonga (SAT) to get some information and bookings. You can get them on their Facebook Page: Shooting Association of Tonga. 8. Gamefishing This is for those who love going out to sea and enjoy ‘catching’ fish for fun. Check out the Facebook: Nuku’alofa Fishing Club They can direct you to who is sailing on the day and whether you can hitch a ride. 9. Canoeing There is also the other option of going out to sea on the kayaks.

Get to their Facebook: Nuku’alofa Outrigger Canoe Club. They can tell you when is the best time to join them on a ride out to the open sea. 10. Archery Join the local archers in a game and help them get better too at the same time. Archery is growing and we had two reps at the Rio Olympics. So if you want to shoot off with them, visit their Facebook Page: Nuku’alofa Archery Club Tonga. 11. Tennis Lawn tennis is played every day of the week, except on Sundays. You can go down to the Tonga Tennis Courts at ‘Atele. It is located outside the Indoor Stadium and opposite the Tonga Golf Course. Visit them on the Facebook: Tonga Tennis Association for more details and information. 12. Badminton Badminton is also played here in Tonga. The local association is trying to develop the game on the outer islands as well. Their Facebook Page is: Tonga National Badminton Association These are some sports that you might want to play. Or if you want to just walk then join the locals and expats who frequent the Vuna Road walkways here in Nuku’alofa daily for their health walks and exercise. Enjoy your sports holiday in Tonga!
