* N.B. In the event that this proposal is not approved, student(s) must not commence the proposed project. In the first instance, the proposer(s) should seek a meeting with their Course Leader in order to establish the reasons for the non-approval. In the case of proposals which are not approved, students will be required to submit a new proposal should they wish to pursue a project any further. A failure to comply with these requirements may lead the University to initiate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the relevant sections of the Student Regulations and Procedures.

STUDENT PROJECT PROPOSAL FORM FAQs When should I use this form? If you are a student at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) and you are planning to develop a project outside of the University, either on your own or with other students, individuals or organisations, you should discuss your project with your Course Leader or tutor first and then complete this form and ask them to sign it. Are there projects that I don’t need to use the form for? Yes, if the project is organised by your Course Leader or tutor and is part of your course work, you do not need to fill in this form. Also, if you have been asked to do projects with the Ideas Factory, you do not need to use this form. Why do I need to complete the form? We encourage you to look for opportunities to extend your creative practice and professional career by engaging in external activity. When we know you are involved in a productive and appropriate external project, we will promote it through our intranet on your behalf. We want to make sure that the organisations, individuals and venues you are engaging with are trustworthy and responsible, and that you are thinking carefully about the ethical, financial and safety implications of your project. We also need to distinguish between events organised by the University and those organised by others, including students. Can I use the University logo on my publicity material? No, not unless you have been given written permission by the Director of Marketing (email marketing@nua.ac.uk in the first instance). However, you are welcome to indicate that you are a student of Norwich University of the Arts in any written material. When should I complete the form? Complete the form as soon as you can, normally four weeks before the start of the project; but make sure you allow at least two weeks between obtaining your Course Leader’s signature and the start date of the project. What other information do I need to provide? Depending on your project, a risk assessment, funding/budget information and confirmation of equipment requests may be required (please see the checklist overleaf for details). Will I be insured by the University? No, you will need to check with the venue and if necessary arrange suitable insurance. What happens when I’ve completed the form? Give the form to your Course Leader, who will need to be satisfied that the proposal is appropriate and presents no ethical, financial or safety issues. They will then send it to the Dean of Faculty for final approval. Your Course Leader will advise you if the project has been approved. You must not embark on external collaborative projects without this form being approved and signed by the Course Leader and Dean of Faculty. What happens if I go ahead without approval? If you participate in an external project without completing this form and gaining approval, the University may initiate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the relevant sections of the Student Regulations and Procedures.
