FARE Description Education, safety, health and economic data reveal significantly disparate outcomes for people of color in our community. The Fund to Advance Racial Equity provides grants to nonprofits working to build understanding and strengthen our community across racial lines in every zip code. When we tackle the existing gaps in racial equity, our community can become a place where all our residents can learn, work, and further contribute to a healthy, thriving and prosperous place to call home.

FARE’S PRIORITY AREAS • Building Understanding • Supporting Community Leadership • Improving NeighborhoodPolice Trust

GRANTEE SPOTLIGHTS CITY OF FORT WORTH, OFFICE OF POLICE OVERSIGHT MONITOR • The Office of the Police Oversight Monitor provides oversight and accountability of the Fort Worth Police Department. Funds supported two law school interns who researched policing policies and practices such as a new resident-officer mediation program. • “Before working with OPOM, I did not have many encounters with law enforcement officers where we engaged in real and meaningful conversations. Many of us have made up our minds about people to whom we have never even talked, which can have a detrimental effect on the way we treat each other. The mediation program OPOM is planning to implement next year will help bring both civilians and law enforcement officers to the table to have these same real and meaningful conversations.” – Tiffany Daniels, OPOM Intern & Student at Texas A&M Law School

REFUGEE SERVICES OF TEXAS • Refugee Services of Texas provides assistance to refugees and displaced persons fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Funds supported the creation of their first Refugee Music Collaborative where refugees learned music theory and shared their music through community performances. • “These FARE funds have continued to support clients who need to make use of non-traditional forms of mental health support and can use this group to connect with their native country’s culture while integrating into the United States.” – Zoe Wilkerson, Area Director
