This is my Testimony
Chanel McPherson-George
Born and raised in Luton, I studied Biology at Keele University then taught abroad. I returned to the UK in 2014 to qualify as a Secondary Science teacher. Currently, I am an Assistant Principal at a secondary school in Bedford with a heart for mentoring and using my platform to encourage young people to act in love as God commands us all to do
Growing up, I attended catholic schools, and a Pentecostal church pastored by my uncle. On reflection, I think I was lost in the middle of the two, which led me to leave church and foster a connection with God on my own That didn’t work too well, and truth be told, I was inconsistent. During the pandemic however, whilst daunting for so many, I was met with a sense of peace unrivalled. God made me still, cultivated the environment for me to be more consistent and drew me nearer to Him, for which I am eternally grateful. The day I was saved was not like a scene from a movie. It was an ordinary prayer; time spent with God that brought me to the realisation that right there, in His presence, I needed nothing else and in that moment, I pledged my life to Him. There was a real simplicity thrust upon us during this time, material things were irrelevant, events and agendas were irrelevant. This reminds me of one of my favourite scriptures Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
My journey to College Street began as I was led to make the move away from familiarity of my hometown. God also convicted me to resist the fear that I would struggle making time for corporate worship in amongst a home move and my busy schedule and He guided me to switch priorities.
“I feel no need to understand each and every move He makes, because I know that He has worked it all out for my good.”
I visited three churches before attending my first College Street service on October 15th 2023. The Lord knows how He plans to use me here.I feel no need to understand each and every move He makes, because I know that He has worked it all out for my good. The scripture Psalms 4:8 “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord make me dwell in safety” gives me assurance that I need worry for nothing. I have followed the calling towards evangelism, hospitality and fundraising to use my gifts to serve the Church in love. I pray that I may be obedient to his call.
NTCG college street, feels like home. I had an extremely warm welcome, continual encouragement, expertly lead discipleship, bible study and a family network of brothers and sisters that supported me through my baptism process. The best thing about College Street is that every word spoken points back to the beautiful word of God. What College Street has done is simple; it has encouraged me to feed on the word of God, all glory and honour to Him for the transformation this has ignited.
The NTCG 2024 theme ‘Let us see Jesus’ has almost become a soul-examination for me. It challenges me to reflect on whether those I encounter can see Jesus, through my example. I strive for the answer to this to be ‘yes’ each day. Ministry opportunities at NTCG have enabled me to help those most in need showing them the love that God first showed us My word of encouragement to you is to make more room for God in your life. If you are not reading the bible as regularly as you’d like, have some for breakfast, lunch and dinner, remaining as consistent as you can by taking the bold step of reprioritising This is how you will begin to SEE who God is
