OUR STORY NSP was born in 2001 from the vision of Bruce “Buzz” Hansen, a life-long surfer, skater and all round waterman. While working on Maui as a custom surfboard builder, Buzz had an epiphany about producing affordable, versatile, durable and great performing surfboards. Buzz correctly realized there were everyday surfers who needed an affordable board that performed in Hawaii, yet they didn’t require “custom” or specialized competition Photographer : John Rathwell | Rider : Ryan Peck | Location : California
4
The quest began, so Buzz summoned his friends working for a leading composites manufacturer with the goal to create a light, very durable surf board at highly competitive prices. Working together they introduced a new epoxy technology that would go on to revolutionize the industry and quite possibly recreational surfing. Weekend and occasional surfers no longer had to rely on the illperforming “foamies” or be relegated to the used board market. The code name during development was “New Surf Project”. Somehow the name stuck and “NSP” was established. The word “New” reflected the brands identity, using innovative technologies that were new to the market and a new way of thinking about the surf industry.
NSP began selling in Hawaii and Australia in 2002 with immediate success, making surfing more accessible. In 2007 NSP was one of the first brands to produce SUPs based on the brand’s original concept of performance and value. Today, NSP is one of the world’s largest brands in recreational surfing and stand-up paddleboards. Everyday new enthusiasts, young and old, go out and introduce their friends and family to the freedom of the sport and the brand. Since 2013 NSP has produced some of the fastest SUP race boards on the planet, quickly racking up some of the most sought after and prestigious titles with the help of national and international athletes. In over 17 years, with hundreds of thousands of boards produced, our core values remain the same. NSP stays true to the vision of creating great performing, affordable, durable surf and paddleboards that allow everyone to catch more waves.

or extreme surf boards. His dream was a utilitarian surfboard that could ride in the back of a pick-up truck to the beach, be left in the sun all-day or loaned to a friend without fear of damage - of course it had to surf well enough to be given to his long-time surfing buddies, neighbors and friends.

ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY At NSP we respect the environment and the world we play in. We are constantly looking for new ideas and technologies to reduce the impact on our planet as we build surf and SUP boards. NSP was the first to incorporate shape molded SecureCell EPS blanks in our Surf and SUP manufacturing process. The result is almost zero foam dust waste. COCO FLAX

and supplying new, environmentally enhanced green epoxy systems based on natural ingredients. NSP Cocomat boards for instance are manufactured with high performance bio epoxy resin, based on no less than 28% of plant-based organics. Another industry leading innovation by NSP is the use of water based dye pigments in our Cocomat construction. These dyes use zero percent solvents or other toxic additives. In acknowledgement of NSP’s sustainable efforts and years of implementing new technologies and techniques that help reduce the environmental impact, NSP has partnered with Sustainable Surf’s Ecoboard project. Today, 90% of the NSP line up meets their strict requirements, justifying the use of the highly respected Sustainable Surf Ecoboard logo. About Sustainable Surf: Sustainable Surf is a California-based non-profit charity organization focused on transforming surf culture into a powerful force for protecting the ocean playground. Learn more at: http://sustainablesurf.org.

About Harmless Harvest: Harmless Harvest envisions a world where nutritious, clean, organic and healthy food and beverages are the standard rather than the exception; where all people involved in creating the product are treated with fairness; and the planet is treated harmlessly. Harmless Harvest supplies NSP with Fair For Life coconut husks from certified Organic farms, for use in our CocoMat and CocoFlax boards. Learn more at www.harmlessharvest.com. In keeping with our pledge to pursue sustainable materials and manufacturing, NSP will introduce Flax Fiber Rail technology to the Cocomat series in 2019. This already eco friendly product will benefit from this highly durable reinforced fiber made from the flax seed plant, and help NSP in reducing the use of fiberglass and overall carbon footprint.

SHAPERS MARCIE O’NEILL In 2017, legendary shaper, Marcie O’Neill, teamed up with NSP to bring some new direction to the already popular Elements Longboard, Funboard and Fish surf shapes. Marcie, grew up surfing in Australia and started designing surf boards at the Aloha Factory in 1989. Coming from a traditional, yet eccentric background, when you look a little closer at the lines and rockers, you will see how our Long, Fun and Fish Elements have evolved in terms of performance and taken on Marcie’s highly regarded style. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Marcie as we further develop the NSP range, but for now jump on over to NŪU Surfboards to see his latest artistic surf collection and inspirations. www.nuusurfboards.com

KYM THOMPSON Starting at the young age of 15, Kym Thompson made designing surfboards his life’s work and to this day he designed and shaped everything from single fin boards, right down to all multi-fin configurations. Originally Kym began his career shaping longboards and as the shortboard era took hold, Kym advanced his skills and transitioned his designs to meet the demands of the market. From the beginning, dating back to 2001, Kym and NSP built a strong partnership with Kym being the mastermind behind the popular PU Heritage Series. His Endless, Hooligan, Dream Rider and Fighting Fish shapes are now integrated in the light weight and sustainable Cocomat and Coco Flax series. NSP is looking forward to continuing a long tradition of bringing high quality, innovative, yet affordable surfboards by Kym Thompson to the market.

FISH
The NSP Fish is stable, wide, and flatter-rockered – they’re fast and fun! The perfect board for ripping in all conditions. Wide nose pumps volume under riders chest adding flotation for paddling power, stability and easy entry into the smallest waves with quick acceleration. Rocker and rail outline are combined with single to double concave bottom, with vee through the tail incorporated into a wide swallow tail. The slight hip behind the front fins reduces the area under the back foot creating a pivot point for snappy turns. Boxy and full rails also add to the overall volume and forgiving nature of this model. The Fish performance delivers traction, down the line speed and maximum drive over the flattest of sections. The five fin box system (on HDT Elements models) offers the option of stock tri-fin or optional quad-fin set up to optimize the fin cluster for your style or for the surf conditions.

FIGHTING FISH
The heritage of this shape comes from the most successful twin fin designs of the late 70’s and 80’s updated as a modern thruster. The outline is wide with lots of area in the nose and a double wing swallow tail and a very distinctive and deep double concave V in the bottom.
With the Fighting Fish in your corner you’ll be a champion small to over-head wave shredder.
The double winger tail is an intricate part of the design with the fins set next to the wingers for a water flow release point in the rail to shorten the radius of the turn giving a quicker, snappier and turnier board. This shape quickly provides maximum lift and speed which translates into turning performance, allowing the rider to use the surface area to milk the juice from the smallest and weakest waves.
