FEBRUARY 2019 CHAPTER GROWTH & RECRUITMENT
SELECT YOUR APPROACH FEB. 1 2019
IN-PERSON APPROACH TABLE FOR INTEGRITY WEEK
Table for Integrity Week (2/11-2/15/19), hand out candy and get students to commit to academic integrity by signing your official NSCS chapter integrity banner. Be sure to take pics and post to social. Additional candy or incentives should be offered to non-NSCS students that post a pic in front of the table and tag #NSCS
OPEN TRIVIA NIGHT
Organize a trivia night for all members, their friends and your entire campus community. Download resources online to include trivia questions. Provide pizza and snacks, and do not forget some enticing prizes for the winners. Consider hosting in a freshmen or sophomore residence hall, group or online forum.
Reach out to your career center or a business professor and host one or more speakers on a critical topic such as interviewing, resume writing, securing an internship, scholarships, etc. You can host one speaker, or a panel. Don’t forget to provide an introduction of NSCS for prospect attendees.
INFO & STRESS LESS SESSION
Help your fellow students de-stress and learn more about NSCS. Schedule a time to show funny clips, a 30-minute sitcom series or a movie. Don’t forget to spend the first few minutes talking about who NSCS is and what NSCS does, and share some stress less materials from our national philanthropic partner Active Minds. Providing food, snacks and even a raffle (along with several invites and reminders) will guarantee a good turnout.
WHITE BOARD/ SIDEWALK CHALKING
Identify a riddle or relevant trivia question (one about your university would be fitting) and write on as many classroom whiteboards and/or chalk on a high-traffic campus sidewalk. Direct students to your chapter Facebook page for the answer. Be sure to focus on classes with a high volume of freshmen and sophomores.
FLYER WITH PRIDE
How are you made aware of campus events? Consider a flyer posting day and invite all members to post 20 flyers around campus. Contact the national office to access NSCS approved (not campus approved) flyers.
Know your institution’s requirements for reserving rooms, posting flyers, chalking, etc.
2 Always promote to prospects and encourage chapter members to do so, too.
Food and snacks are a selling point for any event.
Drawings, raffles and prizes will help to promote ample engagement.
Focus on freshmen and sophomores for recruitment, although all are welcome.
DIGITAL APPROACH SOCIAL MEDIA BLITZ
Identify a one-week challenge for all members to posts about NSCS to their social media. First, develop content; from general trivia and NSCS factoids to slide shows, Instagram stories and tweets—all options are fair game. Provide content to chapter members with the rules of engagement. Don’t forget to have members tag your chapter and then offer a prize to the most active participant.
Does your university have an official online paper, blog or other publication? Then reach out to them! Ask them to consider writing a piece on the impact of NSCS so that new members will be informed once they get invited. Alternatively, pay for a full-page ad. Work with the national office should you need some ideas.
Allow a minimum of two weeks to advertise your events.
Ask all chapter members to help promote every chapter event, and in turn you should provide them with email and social media language, flyers, etc. so that they can share with others.
Always invite your student newspaper, dean of students and VP of student affairs… even if they are not able to attend.
Take pics and do interviews to showcase your events after the fact.
Remind, remind, remind. Everyone needs several reminders, so be sure to keep officers, prospects, confirmed attendees, members, etc. updated.
FEB. 28 2019
Sport your official NSCS t-shirt or hold a sign showing your support for NSCS. Have the entire chapter body do this and post to all their social profiles for the month of February.
Reach out to your career center or a business professor and host one or more speakers on a critical topic such as interviewing, resume writing, securing an internship, scholarships, etc. You can host one speaker, or a panel. Don’t forget to spend the first few minutes talking about who NSCS is and the impact NSCS has made in your campus community. In need of webinar technology? Contact the national office for details.
TELL A STORY
Create and post two stories for Instagram and two for Facebook. Consider animation, slideshow, tagging, top five-focused story and other forms of interesting media.
