CURRENT AFFAIRS

Donald Trump Becomes the First World Leader to Meet Japan's New Emperor Under a blazing hot sun at Japan’s Imperial Palace, President Donald Trump on May 27 became the first world leader to meet the new emperor of Japan. The president was the center of attention at a grand outdoor welcome ceremony where he took a solo walk down red carpets, reviewing Japanese troops as the guest of honor. The pomp and pageantry then gave way to meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe about trade and other world issues. Trump’s “state call” opened with handshakes and greetings from Naruhito, who ascended to the throne on May 1, and his wife, Empress Masako. As he approached the emperor, Trump said, “How are you? Thank you very much.” The first lady told the empress, “Nice to meet you.” After exchanging pleasantries inside the palace, the couples emerged and walked to a raised platform as the national anthems of both countries were played. Trump showed little emotion but waved near schoolchildren feverishly waving the United States and Japanese flags. Some of the children suffered from the heat and were later seen sitting with cups of water and cool compresses on their foreheads. At the White House, a week before meeting Japan’s new emperor, Trump noted the significance of his meeting with the emperor. Naruhito took the throne after his father stepped down, the first abdication in Japan’s royal family in about two centuries. “It’s a very big thing going on with the emperor.

It’s something that hasn’t happened in over 200 years,” Trump said. “I am the guest, meaning the United States is the guest.” Trump stressed that Abe “very specifically” said Trump is the guest of honor. “With all the countries of the world, I’m the guest of honor at the biggest event that they’ve had in over 200 years,” Trump said. It’s not the emperor who chose Trump as his first state guest. It was Abe, who is seen by some as using the invitation to meet Naruhito to curry favor with Trump who is threatening to impose potentially devastating tariffs on Japan’s auto industry, among other tensions in the relationship. After leaving the Imperial Palace, Trump went to the Akasaka Palace, the Japanese state guest house with lush manicured grounds, for meetings, a working lunch and joint news conference with Abe. The president was also the guest of honor at an imperial banquet at the palace hosted by the emperor.

EKAL VIDYALA’S EVENT TO SPREAD AWARENESS ON NEED OF

EDUCATION IN RURAL INDIA RECEIVES

SWEEPING RESPONSE

India’s literacy rate is falling behind every passing day than any other country. While the literacy rate among the urban population is currently at 84.1 percent, the literacy rate among rural population is only 67.8 percent owing to many reasons including being far from major cities and living remote areas with short of basic amenities. WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

On that account, Ekal Vidyalaya (EKAL) is working round the clock to bring basic education to every child across rural India. In this bid, the organization has undertaken to run one-teacher schools (known as Ekal Vidyalayas) all over India, in the remotest rural and tribal villages.

with a total of 2,34,0902 students out of which 1,17,3075 girls are being educated. The ultimate goal of EKAL is to back 100,000 villages by the year 2020. For its incessant service to provide education to all in India, on February 26, “Ekal Abhiyan Trust” (Ekal’s umbrella organization) was bestowed with India’s prestigious ‘Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize’ award for 2017, for its contributions to providing education to rural and tribal children and for furthering gender social equality in remote parts of India.

US NEWS In an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street, May said she had “done everything” she could to convince members of Parliament to back the Brexit withdrawal agreement she had negotiated with the European Union. But, she said it was with “deep regret” that she had ultimately failed to reach a consensus among lawmakers. “I believe it was right to persevere even when the odds against success seemed high, but it is now clear to me that it is in the best interests of the country for a new prime minister to lead that effort,” May said at a hastily arranged press conference. “I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honor of my life to hold. The second female prime minister but certainly not the last.” 20

Theresa May Resigns as UK Prime Minister Britain Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation on May 24, drawing her turbulent three-year premiership to an abrupt end. She will step down as Conservative party leader on June 7.

“I do so with no ill will but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve the country I love,” May said, her voice shaking. Sterling briefly rose 0.5 percent to climb above $1.27 shortly after May’s statement, before paring gains as investors digested the news.

What Happens Next? After May steps down as Conservative Party leader, she will continue as an acting prime minister until a new leader is in place. It means May will still be in Downing Street for the state visit of President Donald Trump from June 3. On three occasions, U.K. lawmakers

have refused to vote in favor of May’s much-maligned deal to leave the European Union, leading to open challenges to her premiership from within her own party. The U.K. leader had already promised to set a timetable for a new prime minister to take the reins, once lawmakers had voted on her new Brexit “Withdrawal Agreement Bill.” But her proposals, including a customs union arrangement and the chance for lawmakers to vote on holding another Brexit referendum, prompted anger from many Conservative Members of Parliament (MPs). The opposition Labour Party called May’s latest Withdrawal Agreement Bill a “rehash” and said it would not support the plans.

United kingdom’s second female leader, after Margaret Thatcher, and vowing to carry through Britain’s exit. She initially began the official process of withdrawing the U.K. from the European Union by triggering Article 50 in March 2017. The following month, May announced a snap general election with the aim of strengthening her hand in Brexit negotiations. That move backfired as the number of Conservative Party MPs actually lost, forcing her government to operate on a confidence and supply deal, securing votes from the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland. The biggest difficulty May faced when trying to carry

through Britain’s exit from the EU was settling the Irish border issue - a contentious problem which remains unresolved. Ultimately, her plan to exit the European Union failed to satisfy lawmakers from across the political spectrum and put in place a sequence of events that has seen her step down. The daughter of a vicar, May attended Oxford University where she read Geography. The 62-year-old May was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1997 and rose to become home secretary before taking the top job of prime minister. Previously, May had worked at the Bank of England.

The process of selecting May’s replacement will now begin with Conservative lawmaker and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson heavily tipped as her probable successor.

How Did We Get Here? The referendum to leave the European Union started on June 23, 2016. A day later, Prime Minister David Cameron, who opposed Brexit, announced his resignation, effective that July. May succeeded him, becoming the JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

Checklist for NRIs

Seeking Home Loans in India Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) can invest in any number of properties in the country and are also eligible to avail home loans for as many properties as they like. Of course, while there is no cap on the number of properties for which an NRI can take home loans for, repayment capacity must always be factored in. WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

Over-leveraging is never a good idea and regardless of what viewpoint a bank takes, NRIs must do their own repayment capacity calculations. In India, most banks and non-banking financial institutions offer home loans to NRIs. However, the tenure of the home loan may vary, and the rate of interest is usually higher for NRIs.

Loan Tenure and Rate of Interest An NRI usually has to pay a higher rate

of interest than resident Indians. The tenure for a home loan to an NRI usually ranges between 5 and 20 years - only in select cases can it go up to 30 years for salaried professionals. Most banks determine the loan amount eligibility of NRI borrowers based on their income and credit history. Apart from fulfilling basics like minimum age, qualification and years of employment, one must earn a minimum amount to qualify for a home loan. The mandatory income limit again varies from bank to bank and also differs for JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

NRI MONEY

24

the country of residence. For instance, $24,000 a year is considered the minimum income level for US-based NRIs. The loan amount can start from a few lakhs and go up to crores, depending on how much is the bank convinced of one’s eligibility. Some banks may allow NRIs to club their spouse’s or sibling’s income with theirs to improve their eligibility, while other banks will only consider the principal borrower’s income. Obviously, it is important to have a good credit history and high credit score, as WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

banks will invariably check the intending borrower’s credit report - both in the country of residence and India.

Eligibility Requirements Any NRI can apply for a home loan in India as long as he/she is capable of repaying the loan and meets the eligibility requirements. These can again vary from bank to bank - however, most banks follow basic guidelines: Age: The home loan applicant should be minimum 18 years and

maximum 60 years of age. This age limit may differ depending on the bank in question - for instance, Axis Bank lists 24 years as the minimum age for NRI applicants. Job tenure: The applicant should have been employed abroad for at least two years, or should be serving a valid job contract abroad for a minimum period of two years. Type of account: The applicant needs to open an NRE/NRO (non-resident rupee/non-resident ordinary) account from which to service the home loan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) becoming the single-largest party in India to claim victory for its ruling coalition in Lok Sabha elections 2019, as predicted by exit polls. The party has alone won over 300 seats and has maintained its dominance in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

COVER STORY Indian American supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party and several other organizations held victory parties across the United States to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election in the general elections and expressed hope that it will further enhance ties between the United States and India. Overseas friends of BJP (OFBJP) Houston organized “NAMO Victory Celebrations” in which over 500 people, including members from local political parties and leaders from various supporting organizations, participated.

28

OFBJP Chicago and Atlanta also organized victory celebrations and hundreds of Indian Americans participated in the events.

Celebrations in UK Several members and supporters of the Overseas Friends of BJP (UK) converged on the century-old Indian Gymkhana in west London to celebrate the election victory. Music, sweets, and slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were raised as the supporters led by Kuldip Singh Shekhawat, president of OFBJP (UK) recalled their role in BJP’s election campaign. From holding car rallies with Modi’s image in various towns across the UK to making hundreds of thousands of calls from a call center in London to friends and WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

family members in India, the role of UK-based supporters included 2,000 volunteers traveling to India at their own expense to help in the campaign. Virendra Sharma, senior Labour MP and chair of the all-party parliamentary group on India, said IndiaUK relations can only grow further under Modi since he understood the importance of the diaspora and has already made two visits to London as prime minister.

COVER STORY The considerable support for BJP in the Indian community is aided by the presence in the UK of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), which has been functioning since 1966. The structure, principles, and activities of HSS are similar to those of the RSS, whose head, Mohan Bhagwat, attended a ‘mahashibir’ in August 2016 to mark 50 years of its existence. Many UK-based supporters of the BJP were active in campaigning for the 2014 elections, including 500 volunteers who traveled to India. They organized several events in the UK, including ‘Chai pe Charcha with Namo’ in Harrow. 30

The considerable support for the BJP and Modi in the UK was reflected in the packed audience at the Wembley Stadium during the prime minister’s visit in November 2015, one of the largest such meetings addressed outside India.

Election Watch Parties Election watch parties were held in restaurants and in homes where scores of Indian Americans, along with their friends and families, gathered late Wednesday night to watch election results live either on Indian new channels or Facebook. The election results were shown live in at least two theaters, including one in Minneapolis.

World Leaders’ Reactions to Modi’s Win “Congratulations to Prime Minister @ NarendraModi and his BJP party on their BIG election victory! Great things are in store for the US-India partnership with the return of PM Modi at the helm. I look forward to continuing our important work together.”

Never identifying with a race previously, she rejects her new “not quite white” designation, and spends much of her life attempting to become “white” in the American sense. After her teen years trying to adapt to American culture, including watching General Hospital and The Jeffersons and perfecting recipes with Campbell’s soup or Jell-O, Sen is forced to reckon with hard questions: what does it mean to be “white,” who is allowed to be white, why does whiteness retain the power of invisibility while other colors are made hypervisible, and how much does whiteness figure into Americanness? Exploring hot-button topics such as passing, cultural appropriation, class

inequality, bias within Indian immigrant communities, and code-switching, Sen offers new angles to the debate on race and immigration with emotional honesty, humor, and thoughtful criticism. Sen discovers her eventual acceptance of her “not whiteness is actually what makes her American, and as a mother of three not white American children, looking at their own possible future, Sen brings the reader of Not Quite Not White to imagine how America might, by the end of the century, end up being defined outside its borders, in a new diaspora.

Mumbai girl is world’s 1st to Cross the

Atlantic Ocean in Light Sports Aircraft Captain Aarohi Pandit, a 23-year-old pilot from Mumbai, has successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean solo in a Light Sports Aircraft (LSA) to become the world’s first woman to cross the second largest of the world’s oceans all alone. WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

She achieved the feat around midnight May 13-14 when she landed her tiny aircraft at Iqaluit Airport in Canada, after a strenuous 3,000 km long flight, under adverse weather conditions following take-off from Wick, Scotland, with brief stopovers in Greenland and Iceland. “This is part of her ongoing year-long global circumnavigation flight which was launched wither friend Keithair Misquitta on July 30. Aarohi continued solo from the UK to Canada, and they will return to India by July 30, 2019,” said Lynn de Souza, head of Social Access, a not-for-profit communications firm which organized and sponsored the expedition. “En route, she set another world record as the first woman pilot to fly solo above the treacherous Greenland ice-cap in an LSA, and is due for at least half a dozen other records by the time she reaches India,” Lynn told. A commercial pilot and LSA license holder, Pandit and her best friend Keithair Misquitta left India on the Women Empower (WE) Expedition in the tiny aircraft named ‘Mahi’, the first LSA certified by Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India. After landing in Iqaluit, Pandit with pride exhibited the Indian Tricolour presented to her by the Indian Ambassador to Canada Vikas Swarup, said Lynn. “I am so honored and grateful I could do this for my country and for women everywhere… Flying over the Atlantic Ocean is a humbling experience. “It’s just you and your little plane, the light blue sky above and dark blue sea or shining white ice below,” said a worn out yet cheerful Pandit in her landing remarks to her cheering friends in Mumbai. Though she admitted certain sectors in the long flight were bumpy, the “beauty of the ocean and islands was breathtaking and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.”

A resident of Borivali, northwest Mumbai suburb, Pandit is an ardent fan of the legendary American aviator, Amelia Earheart, who became the world’s first woman to make a solo transatlantic flight in a bigger aircraft, 87 years ago, on May 20, 1932. Pandit went through an arduous seven-month preparatory training schedule in India, Siberia, Greenland, Italy over oceans, high altitude, snow, extreme weather conditions, different terrains testing her physical and mental capabilities to undertake her circumnavigation feat.

After a brief sojourn in Canada, the WE Expedition will go along with Pandit flying westwards to Russia, cross many longitudes and stumbling blocks, create or break more records, before she finally returns home by July 30, after clocking in around 37,000 km.

DONALD TRUMP’S NEW POLICY TO REPLACE EXISTING GREEN CARD SYSTEM Donald Trump has said he will replace the existing green cards with ‘Build America’ visa, as the United States President unveiled new merit and points-based immigration policy that seeks to increase the quota for highly-skilled workers. Every year, the United States issues nearly 1.1 million green cards, which gives foreign nationals lifetime permission to live and work in the United States and a path to citizenship in five years. Currently, most of the cards are issued WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

based on family links and diversity visa, and a small section is given to people who are professionals and highly skilled. Trump said on Thursday he wanted to change that and unveiled a new proposal.

“Our proposal fulfills our sacred duty to those living here today while ensuring America remains a welcoming country to immigrants joining us tomorrow. We want immigrants coming in,” Trump said in a major immigration policy address in the Rose Garden of the White House recently. “We cherish the open door that we want to create for our country, but a big proportion of those immigrants must come in through merit and skill,” he said. The White House plan makes no change to the number of green cards allocated each year. “Instead of admitting people through random chance, we will establish simple, universal criteria for admission to the United States. No matter where in the world you’re born, no matter who your relatives are, if you want to become an American citizen, it will be clear exactly what standard we ask you to achieve. It will be made crystal clear,” Trump said.

“This will increase the diversity of immigration flows into our country. We will replace the existing green card categories with a new visa, the Build America visa - which is what we all want to hear,” Trump said amidst applause from the audience. Trump said like Canada and many other modern countries, his administration seeks to create an “easy-to-navigate points-based” selection system. “You will get more points for being a younger worker, meaning you will contribute more to our social safety net. You will get more points for having a valuable skill, an offer of employment, an advanced education, or a plan to create jobs,” he said. In the absence of such a system, America is losing people who want to start companies, and in many cases, are forced to leave the country and go back to the country where they came from, he said.

“They could’ve started them (companies) right here in the United States, where they wanted to do it in the first place. Now they’ll have a chance,” Trump said. The United States President said priority will also be given to higher-wage workers to ensure the American labor is never undercut. To protect benefits for American citizens, immigrants must be financially self-sufficient, he said.

“Finally, to promote integration, assimilation, and national unity, future immigrants will be required to learn English and to pass a civics exam prior to admission. Through these steps, we will deliver an immigration system that respects, and even strengthens, our culture, our traditions, and our values,” Trump said. Unfortunately, he said, the current immigration rules allow foreign workers to substitute for Americans seeking entry-level jobs. “So, foreign workers are coming in and

“Only 12 percent of legal immigrants are selected based on skill or based on merit. In countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand that number is closer to 60 and even 70 and 75 percent, in some cases,” he said. The biggest change his administration will make is to increase the proportion of highlyskilled immigration from 12 percent to 57 percent, Trump said. “We’d like to even see if we can go higher. This will bring us in line with other countries and make us globally competitive,” he said. At the same time, the current system prioritizes the immediate family of new Americans - spouses and children, he said. “The loved ones you choose to build a life with, we prioritize. And we have to do that. They go right to the front of the line. Right to the front of the line, where they should be,” Trump said.

they’re taking the jobs that would normally go to American workers,” Trump said. “America’s immigration system should bring in people who will expand opportunity for striving, low-income Americans, not to compete with those low-income Americans,” he said. As a result of the broken rules, the annual green card flow is mostly low-wage and lowskilled, he rued, adding that the newcomers compete for jobs against the most vulnerable Americans and put pressure on the social safety net and generous welfare programs. How to Cultivate Faith? -By Sadhguru

Faith is not something that you can cultivate. If it happens to you, it happens, if it does not happen to you, it does not happen. Does it mean you have to just sit and wait, and someday it will fall upon you? No, it is just that if you understand the fundamentals of living in this existence, you will see that for anything to happen, you must create the right kind of situation. Faith is only for the innocent. But the moment modern education entered you, you have a thinking, questioning, doubting mind. With this, you cannot follow the path of faith. If you want to grow cotton, if you sit near a cotton plant WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

and pray to God, cotton will not bloom! You must learn what the right conditions for growing cotton are: how the soil should be, how the manure should be, how the atmosphere should be, how the water should be. If you understand these conditions

and create them, cotton will grow. This is the basis of everything that is happening in the existence - if you create the right kind of conditions, it will happen. If you do not create the right

kind of conditions, it does not matter how much you struggle, it is not going to happen. So, if faith has to happen, you must create the right kind of condition.

Can You Be Faithful? What is the condition necessary for faith? Jesus said, “Come follow me.” That is his most fundamental teaching. When he said this, the great scholars of that time, the intellectuals, the educated and the powerful did not follow him. It was only the fishermen and farmers who followed him. The thinking minds cannot follow anyone. Only the simple and innocent could follow him. Even these fishermen - these simple folks - walked a few steps behind him, and then one of them said: “My father is dead, I will bury him and come.” Jesus said, “Leave the dead to the dead, you come.” For people who do not understand, Jesus sounds very arrogant. When your father is dead, what a thing to say! But that is what he said. So, only the very simple and innocent followed him.

faith. It does not mean faith is impossible for you, but do not start with something that you do not have. Start with something that you have right now, whatever is dominant in you. If you are a thinking person, let’s use that. If you are a very physical person, or you have a very strong sense of energy, or you have lots of emotions in you, let’s use that. But all the four need to be cultivated and used.

existence - this moment it is up, the next moment it will be down. You understand and you experience that you are just a brief happening here. It is not an intellectual understanding, it is a living experience that you see yourself as a small outcrop of the earth. When this becomes a living experience, you are faith. Until then there is no point talking about faith.

Falling Apart

The faithfulness that you are talking about is simply loyalty. People who talk about loyalty are always people whose vested interest is how to hold you. Faith is not a device to hold you - faith is about liberating you. Faith is not about being for this group or that group, but about becoming a part of this existence. That is not something that you do, that is something that you become.

If you try to be devout you will become deceptive. But if you come to a certain level of experience, devotion becomes a natural part of you. Faith is something which is within you. It is your quality, something that you become, not something that you believe in. Faith is just a deep falling back into existence - you as a person have fallen apart. You have just become like a simple little wave with the

United States-Based Fast Food Chain Taco Bell Unveils Plan to

Build 600 Restaurants in India Taco Bell appears to have its eyes set on the world. The United States-based fast-food chain announced their plan to build 600 restaurants in India over the next decade after signing an agreement with franchise partner Burman Hospitality Private Limited (BHPL) of India.

BUSINESS INSIGHTS The expansion is predicted to generate thousands of jobs in the country and will establish India as the company’s “largest market outside of the United States,” Taco Bell said. “Upon completion of the 600 restaurants, the brand expects to contribute over 20,000 jobs to India’s economy, and even more indirect jobs through the expanded supply chain and vendor needs,” the company said. The chain currently has 35 restaurants in the Asian country. 50

Taco Bell also detailed plans to open up new locations in other spots around the globe. “In addition to India, Taco Bell will continue expansion across Asia, with the goal of expanding its presence to five restaurants in Thailand by the end of 2019,” according to the news release. The company said it also intends to open up its first locations in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia in the next year. Taco Bell is looking to enter the New Zealand market “for the first time within the next year.” “Additionally, Taco Bell is always looking ahead at

future markets that are the right fit to enter into,” the company continued. “In the coming year, the brand has its sights set on entering Indonesia and Portugal.” The restaurants serve a variety of Mexican inspired foods that include tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, novelty, and specialty items, and a variety of “value menu” items. Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, an entrepreneur who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell’s Drive-In in San Bernardino, California in 1948. Bell watched long lines of customers at a Mexican restaurant called the

Mitla Cafe, located across the street, which became famous among residents for its hardshelled tacos. Bell attempted to reverse-engineer the recipe, and eventually, the owners allowed him to see how the tacos were made. He took what he had learned and opened a new stand under the name of Taco-Tia in late 1951 or early 1952, which sold tacos. PepsiCo purchased Taco Bell in 1978, and later spun off its restaurants’ division as Tricon Global Restaurants, which later changed its name to Yum! Brands.

According to a survey by Anarock Property Consultants, affordable housing is expected to give returns of 8-10 percent for NRIs followed by 6-8 percent for mid-segment, 3-5 percent for luxury and 2-3 percent for ultra-luxury properties. Saura art is often mistaken for Warli art of Western India. There are, however, subtle differences between the two. Like Warli art, Saura also features characters in geometrical shapes, but the Saura forms are larger and more elongated. This all makes the painting unique and popular as an Indian art form.

4. MADHUBANI: This form of art is known for WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

its intricate motifs and vibrant colours. Madhubani or Mithila painting is an Indian art form developed by women from the region of Mithila in Northern Bihar. It’s being practice for hundreds of years. Un till Madhubani paintings were relatively unknown, and “discovered” only in 1934, when during an inspection after an earthquake, a British colonial officer came across them on the walls of houses. Madhubani paintings mostly depict nature and religious motifs made during the special occasion and ceremonies. The themes revolve around deities like Krishna, Rama, Shiva, Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and objects like the sun and moon are also widely painted. It is believed that this art form originated during the time of Ramayana, when King Janak commissioned artists to paint pictures on the occasion of his daughter Sita’s wedding. The Madhubani paintings are done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens and matchsticks, and natural dyes and pigments, such as turmeric, soot, cow dung, indigo, rice powder, sandalwood and rose are still in use. This all makes it unique and beautiful. An interesting feature of this art form is that the artists aim to cover every possible inch of the canvas with patterns, filling the gaps with flowers, animals, birds and geometric designs to make the painting look full and amazing.

5. GOND: This form of art form is more famous among the largest tribes in India, the Gonds. The gonds have a recorded history that goes back 1400 years. They are present in significant numbers in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The Gonds are said to place faith in an old belief that says that a good image brings good luck, and it is this belief that can be found at the root of this art form. Concerned with warding off evil and ushering in good luck, the Gonds would decorate their houses with traditional tattoos and motifs. For the Gond, everything is intimately connected to nature, and their art features motifs that depict their beliefs and rituals, life in the village, and man’s remarkable relationship with nature. Renowned for their vibrant colours and imaginative use of lines and dots, Gond artworks today use natural colours sourced from soil, plants, charcoal and cow dung as well as acrylic paints. Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Clean

Your Ears

With Cotton Swab

Using cotton swabs to clean your ears can be dangerous enough though it may seem harmless enough. Medical experts are warning people not to try removing wax and debris from their ear canals. Medical experts have seen many catastrophes resulting from using cotton swabs. From punctured eardrums to super impacted wax, there are many negative consequences associated with “do-ityourself” ear cleaning. WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

HEALTHY LIVING From cotton swabs to toys, people use several items to clean their ears. Some of the most interesting seen in doctors’ offices include:

Cotton swabs Hairpins Tweezers Pens and pencils Straws Paper clips Toys

86

While this is only a partial list, it’s important to know that nothing should be placed inside the ear to get rid of dirt and debris. This is unsafe and could cause hearing loss or a damaged eardrum or ear canal. The ear canal has specialized cells that produce ear wax. Ear wax accumulates much quicker for some people than others. This can lead to wax build-up that causes decreased competence to hear and in quite a lot of instances, pain. As an easy way to avoid seeing a medical professional, many people resort to using swabs to get rid of the excess wax, causing more harm than good. The eardrum is easily reached with a swab. Because the eardrum is so delicate, it can be easily ruptured by using even the gentlest pressure when using a swab. The pain of punctured

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

eardrum is severe and the ear may also leak a clear fluid. While a punctured eardrum will heal, it can take a while and can even lead to conductive hearing loss. Is Cleaning Your Ears Necessary The outer ear or pinna benefits from a good cleaning every now and then. This can be accomplished with a little soap, water, and a washcloth while you shower. In most cases, the ear canal does not need to be cleaned. During hair washing or showers, enough water enters the ear canal to loosen the wax that has accumulated. In addition, the skin in your ear canal naturally grows

in an outward, spiral pattern. As it sloughs off, ear wax goes with it. Most of the time the wax will loosen and fall out on its own while you are asleep. The need for a cotton swab is not necessary. Solution for Build-up Wax For those who have massive wax accumulated, a visit to the doctor may be required since doctors can effortlessly remove ear wax with a little peroxide mixed with water and injected into the ear. The process is virtually pain-free and is effective at removing impacted wax. If excess wax turns a frequent problem, ask your doctor how you can do the process yourself at home. HEALTHY LIVING University School of Medicine. Results from tests on mice showed that resveratrol increased levels of heme oxygenase, an enzyme known to protect nerve cells in the brain from damage. When a stroke occurs, the brain is ready to protect itself because of higher enzyme levels. However, it remains unclear whether the health benefits are due to the resveratrol itself, or if the alcohol in the wine is needed to concentrate the levels of the compound.

Prevents Vision Loss Resveratrol in red wine may help prevent vision loss caused by out-of-control blood vessel growth in the eye, according to findings published in 2010. 90

Diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration are leading causes of blindness among Americans aged 50 years and above. This is due to an overgrowth of blood vessels in the eye, known as angiogenesis.

Hyderabad to Get World’s Largest

OnePlus Store

During the launch of OnePlus’ latest flagship OnePlus 7 Pro in Bengaluru on May 14, the Chinese smartphone maker announced that the world’s largest OnePlus store will soon be set up in Hyderabad.

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

The six-storeyed building, which is set to come up later this year, will be spread across an area of over 16,000 square feet. OnePlus already has an R&D centre in Hyderabad, which it announced last year. OnePlus plans on making this R&D centre its largest in the globe. This centre is already working on developing India-specific features such as those to help improve work-life balance, cricket scores, travel-related features, etc. These new features will soon be introduced on OnePlus smartphones in the country, the company’s chief executive officer Pete Lau said during the launch event. Pete says that Hyderabad is not only known for its rich cultural heritage but also its booming tech and IT centre. The city,

for OnePlus, represents the bridge between old and new, and the same has gone into designing the store. “The store’s design has two layers. The outer layer has a clean white finish representing the modern Hyderabad. It has nano material that can withstand dust and maintain a clear white colour for long. The inner red brick wall represents the more raw and traditional Hyderabad. And my favourite part is its use of natural light. As the day progresses, the store will light up differently, dynamically changing how the store looks as the day goes by,” Pete said. Your Bedroom - All About Directions!

JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

INDIAN VAASTU CORNER

104

A bedroom is a place where you seek harmony, comfort and it is all about your personal space. That being said, it is also in your hands on how to take care of the vibes and surrounding you are residing in and this can be taken care of by following some basic Vastu tips. Would you agree? In order to spread optimism and peace in your bedroom, it is necessary that you follow a discipline by placing yourself in the right direction, keeping things in the right direction and following certain rules on the colors you choose for your room. This does not mean that you cannot do as you please in your own room but it just means that by following vastu you are just going in the right direction. It is just like following the right direction to reach a particular destination, same is with following vastu when you follow the right rules you will be able to spread the

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

positive energy you want to in and around you. Here are some of the Vastu tips to follow for your bedroom

Tip No 1 - Right Location Of The Master Bedroom First things first, as per the rule of Vastu your bedroom should be located in the southwest direction of your home. This is not an ideal place for any other room.

Why? The southwest direction is specifically good to attract and absorb positive and good energies, it is associated with earth. That being said, the earth element as per Vastu is a combination of fire and water and its nature is to purify that particular surrounding. Apart from this, earth has that importance because it is powerful.

Tip No 2 - Positioning Of The Bed And Direction To Sleep As positioning plays a vital role in Vastu, it is important that you give attention to how you are placing your bed and whether or not you are sleeping in the right direction. Follow these rules To place your bed at the right place, always see to it that you look for a South or West direction. If at all you are unable to keep your bed in the right direction then you should see to it that you keep your bed about 4 inches away from the wall If you want your health to stay good and not get affected then you should see to it that there is no beam crossing over your bed.

Never consider the North direction to keep your head because the body works in such a way that when you are lying down the blood flows really fast and there is a magnetic pull on that iron that is passing through and floating in your head, these magnetic waves in the opposite direction causes disturbance in your sleep and further affects your state of mind as well. Always consider buying a bed made of wood instead of a bed made of metal. No doubt metal beds are low maintenance but they are not considered good as per Vastu. It would be good if you buy a bed of an irregular shape and see to it that the bed does not touch the ground. Do not keep your bed right in front of the room, always see to it that you are facing

JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

INDIAN VAASTU CORNER South, West or East while sleeping

Tip No 3 - Placing Things The Right Way There is science linked to how we place things as well. Here is what you should take into account If you are looking at what to place on the south or west direction of your wall then you should just place your mirror there and see to it that it is not facing your bed, south and west is considered because it is the right place and not be a hindrance for any sort of positive energy entering the room.

106

See to it that you do not place a double mattress on your bed, place a single mattress on your bed. Keep all electronic devices away from where you are sleeping because they give out electromagnetic waves which are not good for the body to take in. You should avoid keeping broken clocks or decorative pieces because they can come in the way of peace in your home. It is always good to discard anything damaged or broken than to pile up the junk.

Tip No 4 - Vastu Tips On The Right Colors You should consider earthen colors for the walls in your bedroom as it ensures to keep peace, happiness, comfort, stability, satisfaction, and prosperity in your life and we need them all to lead a good life.

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

Tip No 5 - Good To Know Tips

> In case you have a window behind

your bed, do not keep it open while you are asleep

> Do not hang pictures of people who have passed away on your walls

>

If you have a toilet attached to your bedroom then most of the times see to it that it is shut when not in use

> It is nice to clean your floor with salt

water once in a way because it drags out all the negative energy from your room

> You can add some positive energy in

your room by lighting candles that have a natural aroma and one of the best things you can do is to place two roses in the southwest corner of your room to add to the happiness in your life

Summary When it comes to looking into the vastu of a bedroom, aspects such as the direction and placement of the bed, entrance, doors, windows, dressing table, the colors on the wall and all the minute things kept in bedroom matter and are taken into account. JUNE 2019 | WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM

Story :

A Dog Journey

While the film essentially revolves around a dog reincarnation and he trying to realise his purpose in subsequent births, the story has a larger message. Good people don’t have to finish last and those who love you will always ensure that you aren’t lonely.

Analysis : Sequel to W. Bruce Cameron’s 2010 novel A Dog’s Purpose, this film too follows a dog named Bailey and his journey through several lives via reincarnation and how he chases his purpose through each of his lives. It all begins with Bailey aka the big boss as his loving owner Ethan (Dennis Quaid) calls him, and he observing his family fall apart.

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

3/5

When Bailey is finally put to sleep, Ethan hopes that he’d return to look after CJ, his granddaughter, just the way he has looked after him. After Bailey is reborn as Max, Molly and more, he keeps looking for CJ and ways to make her happy as Ethan had asked him to. A dog’s journey has some heartwarming moments exuding unconditional love and loyalty as expected. Dog lovers in particular will need to carry tissues as this one’s a total tearjerker for them. However, the film ceases to go beyond the sentimental cliches. As seen through the eyes of a dog, as he narrates the story, beyond a point, it all gets repetitive and thus exhausting. As the dog keeps reliving his purpose, you lose a sense of wonder and are prepared for what to expect. Be it a love confession, terminal illness, suspected death, reunion or happy every after you sniff it from a mile. The performances though are truly endearing. In times of social media cynicism, Dennis Quaid, Henry Lau and Kathryn Prescott show you what it feels like to love and be loved in return.

De De Pyaar De Story : An affluent middle-aged man living in London falls in love with a girl half his age. All hell breaks loose when he tries to seek approval from his separated wife and estranged family back in India.

Analysis : Ajay Devgn is in top form (physically and otherwise) playing his age and having the last laugh, even as he lets the audience laugh at him for being repeatedly called Buddha and ‘Uncle’ in the film.

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

3.5/5

He takes it in his stride, knowing well that even at 50, he can give the 20-year-olds, a run for their money. Little wonder then that, his chemistry with a young and vivacious Rakul Preet Singh doesn’t feel out of place. She compliments Devgn’s suave charisma with confidence and glamour. Like in every film, Tabu excels in this one too, with her understated performance and measured expressions. She is not only the voice of reason in the film, but also grace and beauty personified. Even her comic timing is spot on.

Maharshi

Maharshi is the life story of Rishi Kumar (Mahesh Babu) in three different phases of his life. After his successful journey as a student, he reaches new heights as a businessman set in USA. Soon he returns back to the country for a social cause. The film narrates about the real reasons for his drastic moves and how Rishi stands as a support for the farmers. Watch Maharshi to know about what all happens in his journey in this core social drama.

Analysis : The first half of Maharshi is packed with loads of entertainment for youth. The college episodes came out really well and Mahesh's look, mannerism are a treat for his fans. Though the film dips down at times, the entire first half looks packed with right amounts of entertainment and emotions. Mahesh Babu stuns the audience in a new look which will be remembered.

WWW.NRINEWSTODAY.COM | JUNE 2019

3/5

The college episodes and the family drama along with Mahesh's character were penned well. On the whole, the first half of Maharshi sounds decent and the audience waits for the second half. The second half of Maharshi is long, slow paced and is laced with an emotional drama that conveys a message for the society. The contemporary issue was well narrated on screen despite of the slow pace. Mahesh and the entire list of actors delivered their best. The montage songs have come out really well and are emotional connect of the film. The press meet episode and the emotional climax are the highlights of second half. Maharshi looks lengthy when it comes to runtime.

Final Word: Mahesh Babu stuns in three different shades and Maharshi is all about Vamshi's take on the current education system and the struggling farmers. A decent one time watch.
