3-D Printed Blood Vessels Source: http://www.ideaconnection.com/new-inventions/3-d-printedblood-vessels-05038.html By (author unknown) on September 23rd, 2011

Sep-20-11 German engineers have created the first blood vessels printed with a 3-D printer, opening the door for more types of engineered tissues. The capillaries are printed using inks containing synthetic polymer and biomolecules to reduce the chances of rejection. Fine details to stimulate molecular crossing were created with short blasts of laser light, which are seeded with endothelial cells that form the inner walls. The next step in the synthetic organ process would be to build an entire organ, which could replace animals as testers for new drugs and therapies. [ POPSCI.COM ] [ FRAUNHOFER ]

Among the many green offerings from the Frankfurt Motor Show is a new bike from Husqvarna called the e-go, an electric bicycle that looks just like a motorcycle but appears to be floating on air. The e-go weighs just 176 pounds and its frame, though sturdy and well-supported, is designed in such a way as to make the rear half look airy and light. SOLARCROSS: Brilliant Electric Bike is Boosted by the Sun’s Rays Source: http://inhabitat.com/solarcross-brilliant-electric-bike-is-boostedby-the-suns-rays/ By (author unknown) on September 23rd, 2011

Students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University recently demonstrated an aviation first by cruising the sky in a hybrid propulsion aircraft. A team of nearly 200 students spent the last year and a half designing, manufacturing, testing, and flying the hybrid plane dubbed ‘Eco Eagle’. The new aircraft challenges everything we know about efficient flight technology. Read the rest of Embry-Riddle Students Make History With “Eco Eagle” Hybrid Propulsion Aircraft

Self Steering Tractor Source: http://www.ideaconnection.com/new-inventions/self-steeringtractor-05040.html By (author unknown) on September 23rd, 2011

Sep-21-11 Self steering tractors that can travel the fields with the same skill as trained drivers may soon make farms more efficient. Developed by researchers from Belgium, the tractor relies on a GPS system and other sensors to maintain its positional awareness. Specific sensors calibrated for different terrains allow the tractor to traverse a variety of areas, and the 'smart steering' system is able to calculate the optimal speed and turning radius.

Inventor Terry Hope has created the Solarcross – a sunpowered electric bike outfitted with three photovoltaic panels, a 24-volt electric motor, and three 5,000 mAh lithium-ion batteries. The brilliant bicycle soaks up the sun’s rays as a source of clean electricity to propel it through the streets. All in all the kit weighs about 50 pounds and it can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) – and best of all, Hope says that any bike can be converted to run on solar power for about $300-$500!

Wave to Buy Source: http://www.ideaconnection.com/new-inventions/wave-tobuy-05031.html By (author unknown) on September 23rd, 2011

Sep-18-11 Mastercard is developing a way to allow television shoppers to make purchases just by waving their smartphones at the TV. The new app, called QkR can work with the Kinect to allow the users to make purchases from infomercials with a wave of the hand. Making a gesture with the phone that mimics eating a slice of pizza will bring up a list of pizza places, and similar actions will call up their own listings. [ DISCOVERY.COM ] [ ENGADGET ]
