Confinement Food: The Special And Nutritious Diet

For New Mums


Giving birth leads to the loss of blood and energy, making the new mom very weak. Traditionally, the emphasis on confinement food is to ensure that mothers gain the essential nutrients during their post-natal recovery. During pregnancy, the baby is like a parasite and tends to take all the nutrients required by his body. If your diet is adequate in nutrients for both, it does not cause any problems. If on the other hand your diet is inadequate for both, then your recovery after birth will take longer time and if you really don't replenish your body stores during confinement phase, you may remain weak for a long period of time. This is likely why our elders start making so much fuss about eating well during the confinement phase. No matter where you are in the world, each and every one will try and tell you how and what to eat. The most important thing to do is follow your own body's needs. Whatever you eat, make sure that every meal contains a good balance of proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, and water. To speed up recovery, the Food for confinement mothers should be easy to digest so that it keeps the body warm and improves blood circulation. Just follow the following points: Some food makes the baby to become windy or have loose stools. If you find that your baby is suddenly quite unsettled,


try and think of what food you had in the past 12 hours. Avoid that particular food for the next few days. If the same happens again after retrying that food, then you should avoid that particular food for a while and introduce it into your diet by taking a very small quantity and see how the child responds, then increase the quantity slowly so that the child becomes accustomed to the food. Especially during the first week, you may find that your appetite is slightly low. This is normal as your body is physically and mentally adjusting to its non-pregnant state, so it's better to have small frequent meals instead of the normal 3 big meals a day. The ideal diet Food for confinement mothers should be different depending on each individual’s situation. Drink plenty of fluids in order to make sufficient breast milk and if you are prohibited to drink much water, you can get the amount of fluid from other sources such as soup. Types of food to avoid Cooling foods like banana, cucumber, cabbage, coconut and Chinese cabbage as they contribute to mother's poor blood circulation. Acidic food like pineapple, mango, lemon, lime induces excessive lochia in the mother and diarrhea in the baby. Windy food like jackfruit, pumpkin, and onions contribute to baby being colicky and may cause indigestion for mother and baby.
