E

From Colombia twenty-two schools par cipated in the program and a er a strong showing, CIEDI moved to the semi-finals along with six other Colombian schools. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the finals, however the students felt sa sfied with their achievement. On April 17th, we departed for Paris. We took a bus to Calais and then a ferry that crossed over. We were able to sightsee a few places, enjoy typical food and of course, go shopping. Overall the experience that the BEO brings to the students is diverse and varied. We are looking forward to beginning our process for the following school year and once again par cipate with a group of twenty students.

PYP PYP Exhibi on essays Student Name: Natalia Jimena Ramirez Tutor Name: Sandra Zea Title: Disability, an obstacle on life? Line of Inquiry: The struggles that human had to fight to get their rights. ESSAY A life without limits is a free life, it doesn't ma er if it's a problem that is impossible to solve, and “you have to live happily, because is just have one opportunity on life!” “Disability may be generally define as a condi on which may restrict a person`s mental, mobility func ons, or sensority”. It doesn't mean that a person with disabili es is unable to do things that people without disabili es can do, many people that have all his body complete, and are very healthy, don't want to pass their limits, some are afraid of doing another thing that is completely different as their rou nes. Many people think that they are never going to do it, and stay in the same rou nes forever, but there is a person with disabili es that pass his limits and try to stay strong even when the worst thing happened this guy try and try and never give up, and his name is Nick Vujicic, Nick Vujicic is a man that doesn't have arms or legs, he was born with a syndrome called Teatra Amelia it means no limbs. The childhood of Nick was not easy, many people laughed at him on school because he didn`t have limbs, so Nick started to have depressions, some mes he thought of dawning him self in his own bath, but he started to think about his parents, and how much they loved him and took care of Nick so, he didn`t do it, if his parents wouldn`t have the love that they have to Nick, he would die drawn. Now, Nick Vujicic works at making different sows showing how to pass limits, and stay happy with life, he shows to many people with disabili es or people that want to kill them selves to always look forward and stay happy with what everybody has. Nick when he was 30 he was the best actor on MethodForest, he was making the character on phenomenon, and he acted on a court named The Circus Of Bu erflies. Another example of passing limits is a man called Stephen Hawking; Stephen Hawking is a Bri sh theore cal physicist, whose world-renowned scien fic career spans over 40 years. His book and public appearance shave made him an academic celebrity, and he is an Honorary Fellow of the royal Society of Arts. When he had the world on his hands, on Cambridge, he lost his balance and fell down of a flight of stairs, hi ng his head few mes, he thought he would lose his intelligence, but he did not lose his intelligence, and now he is a great theore cal physicist. Also, some people that have many disabili es par cipate playing basketball in wheelchairs, they have a very good team, some don`t have arms, some don't have legs, but they play very well, they want to get a lot of money to repair their wheelchairs, so they go to different schools to play and they get a lot of money, thanks to the schools.

PYP PYP Exhibi on essays Disabili es aect many people in many dierent ways, people think that disabled people can`t do the same things as normal people, and that they just stay lay in their beds doing nothing, and that's what the do on their life, but, its not true, many people do things on their life and even if they don`t have a leg or an arm, it able to do things, instead of laying down a bed all day. They just think that people with disabili es are totally dierent as the normal people, but it's not true! The symbol of disability is a man si ng on a wheelchair; this symbol is used mostly in the parking lots, it's to advice the people that their sits the disabled people. PYP PYP Exhibi on essays Student Name: Daniel Ayala Tutor Name: Sco Walkigton Title: Hitler and the Medias Line of Inquiry: the way revolu ons transform society`s The repercussions of the ac ons of the humans beings ESSAY Hitler was a person who manipulated people trying to have a good image of him, to all people on Germany and also all the world, he has and special gi because when he talked to the people all get convince of what he is saying a good person by different way's. “Hitler's start the world war of the Medias”. First we shall see hoe medias manipulated images, second how Hitler used the medias to his advantage, and finally how the American's used medias to manipulated the image of hitler.in fact Hitler and the medias make at the same me a big revolu on causing fights. Medias of communica on has different types to convince, people to believe in them, they used strategy's, to help them to have more public, for example propaganda is usually repeated over and over because that helps all people get to believe in them more esay, and that helps to the people buy more the product, or see more the TV show. But nowadays is easy to get access to the publicity, that in that me because today with a simple webpage you can make a movie. And this has conver ng like and a chain. But not the people now how to do a very good publicity, for example the colors in that propaganda are very important because when you see a dark image with red and blood you are going to think that this is a bad person, but if you put and image with a yellow sun with a whit the bird you're going to think that this person is good, and that is because colors affect the feelings of the persons emo on, thinking etc. Some physiologist say that are trying to get the truth of exactly what each color can do in our body. For example the red for us is very dangerous because when we see the red our adrenaline, start to get very high. But colors are not the only strategy's person use for the publicity symbols help a lot because helps to suggest and ideas, is a visual image to help us recognized be er and easy for kids a company, or a candy and helps also to replace text that is boring for people. And finally are the facial expressions, is very important to the people what is talking about but principal the kids, for example if you see a person with a face that looks serious you think that this is not a game, but if you see a li le boy with a face that its looks happy you think, all the contrary that is why strategy's in publicity and medias are very important. Hitler used Medias to try to convince people using speeches in radio pu ng poster in all the walls, in TV etc. Hitler in his me he was having a big campaign of publicity thanks to his friend Joseph Goebbels, that was the person that help him with all things of publicity, and why Hitler was very good at the medias of communica on?, Because in that me Germany has a humongous infrastructure of communica on, newspapers was the principal medias of communica on, that Hitler used because was easy to get the materials and have a low price, and the majority of people read him. And all day the printed about 4,00 of newspapers, In one moment Hitler start to have his own TV show, a documental, a newspaper, a radio program etc. and that help a lot of Hitler to his campaign, Hitler in the majority of his publicity used child's because, when persons see kids they think that this is a good campaign, one example of this is that one image that published Hitler, for the Nazi campaign was a li le girl with blond hair that have a big smile, and have a n to collect money with a flower ge ng out of, the n, Goebbels also do like a diary of the live of Hitler, and they published and all people with that book start to believe more in him because of that book, Goebbels like to use big pictures because he think that was more a rac ve and all the people was going to see only that poster. Hitler say “all propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach” 13

PYP PYP Exhibi on essays And ďŹ nally how the Americans' use the publicity to damage the image of Hitler, The Americans' was the competence of the Germans in publicity because the Americas have a lot of strategy's and was more easy to understand than the publicity of Germans, because when they published and image they use pictures than describe the person as equally as it seems to see, and every person can understand the publicity, The Americans' the way of the medias of communica on they used the more was the Television because they say that “you can understand be er if a person talks to you because you put more a en on for the simplest detail, and you understand be er, other strategy's that the Americans' used was like the Germans the posters, because they think that with symbols or image a persons can understand be er than pu ng text, and also help because if you were a persons that speak Spanish and you go the U.S.A you can understand sawing the picture, and they start to win with the publicity because they start to published images of Hitler that say bad things of him, and the images were so real that all persons start to ďŹ ght with the medias of communica on making a world war of medias. In conclusion The medias of communica on have a big role in the second world war, and help Hitler, and the Americans and others country's to help that to believe in them in in this me was when the world war of medias began and either today we use it and also he have making revolu ons, and also that to have a good propaganda you have to follow some rules, and some strategies and that helps to conclude that Hitler and the medias start and new era of medias of communica on.

PYP PYP Exhibi on essays Student Name: Camilo Vélez Aguilar Tutor Name: William Triana Title: Greenpeace a commitment with nature Line of Inquiry: an inquiry about the effect that human ac ons have on living begins ESSAY “The arc c is vital place for his the inhabitants” Greenpeace is an interna onal organiza on that helps natural places like the arc c, this is important because if we use all the resources in the arc c, that beau ful place can disappear in the ocean and because of that a lot of species would lose their home, like the polar bears, if that con nues in 45 years the popula on of polar bears will be reduced in 30%, but not only that specie also the whales, the fish, the polar fox , the birds and some other more that is why Greenpeace is a very important organiza on and all of the countries need to support the pe ons of Greenpeace. In addi on , the arc c is important because there are approximately 945 types of plants and it is the “ air condi oner” of the earth since the polar rays are reflected by the ice and all that heat is going out of the atmosphere but if the were not there all that heat would be taken by the water and the oceans get ho er , a lot of fish can die and the birds that also eat fish also die . The global warming is also another aspect that Greenpeace is interested in because the global warming in the arc c causes the mel ng of the surface of a stadium every 3 minutes. On the other hand, countries like Russia extract a lot of petroleum from the arc c´s reservoir approximately 1000,000,000 of tons. Other countries that also take out petroleum but less that Russia are USA, Canada and Denmark. Not only petroleum also fish, in a year fish companies receive approximately 2,500,000 of dollars with the fish that the capture, if the fish become ex nct all the world would be affected because they are a source of food for humans, animals, birds and some insects. When the fish companies use nets for catching fish, they destroy some corals, algae, lichens and plankton and that affects the ocean because they are homes of millions of fish, octopus sharks, sea snakes and other animals. All of this affects us, since the arc c melts and melts, in 2100 the level of the sea will be between 50 cm and 95 cm, a lot of people say that this is nothing, but the people that live in the coast will be affected by this situa on because the water can destroy their homes , but we will also be affected because if the oceans grow all the beaches draw back and the “paises bajos” like Holland can convert into a type of underwater city like in the roman myth “Atlan s”. To conclude, the arc c is a vital place for the world since that place stabilizes the weather of the earth. But most of the people don't care but Greenpeace does and that is why they are working in a campaign named #SAVETHEARCTIC.

It is the second country with most ac ve land mines so now the reason why Colombia doesn't have a land mine detector is because the government of Colombia takes all the money from the country and takes it for him when he knows that the country it's in a big problem so that's the reason why Colombia Steel having wars and ac ve land mines. So if they don't start to act quickly they are not going to have a land mine detector and if they don't have one there are going to be a lot of hurt people. And in the third area with a lot of war and mines is Africa now the problem of Africa is that the con nent it's so pour that they don't have the money to buy a land mine detector so that is the reaso0n if you go there you are going to see a lot of people without a leg. The role of land mines in the ba les in history of the world was principally on the second world war the role of land mines was to kill the most possible number of people also to destroy tanks with an -tanks land mine , but the role of land mines were not only in the second world war it's also in Cambodia hur ng and killing people, policeman around all the country, another example of a place with land mines it's Colombia the role of land mines in Colombia is to be used by FARC also to kill military , innocent people , police . So the role of land mines. In the third place is Africa the role in there is to kill every type of people ( policemen , military , kids , adults , men and women , mothers with their babies , rich people pour people ( etc. ) ) and the problem that the Africans have is that the more percentage of the people in there is pour.. Now you are going to read about Joseph Stainlaw Koacki he had helped many countries with his simple inven on the land mine detector it's a simple model copy from the iron mine detector.

PYP 4th Grade visited Villa de Leyva

W

e le Bogotá with great expecta ons about having this new experience, being away from our parents for four days. There were some plans, but nobody could have prepared us for what was coming. El Puente de Boyacá was the entrance to this new magical world that opened to us. We learned about how people sacrificed to make us free and gave us a proud heritage. A er that stop we got to Villa de Leyva and lived the most amazing days with our mates and teachers. We had a goal in mind, to be the first CIEDI primary students to make it to the Laguna de Iguaque and sure enough “WE DID IT”. Nobody could take that away from us. We are the best and are willing to prove it, day by day because we showed it in Boyacá. “4th Grade rocks”.

MYP CIEDI´S UCB Cultural day- Diseñando para innovar “Diseñando para innovar” On April 2nd CIEDI was honored to implement and promote the first Design Thinking school workshop on the campus. The school expected to come up with a different proposal this year. An event in which new IB learner profiles, such as open-minded inquirers and communicators, would be highlighted. But, at the same me, an ac vity for our students to be aware of some of the 21st century business frameworks, innova on, entrepreneurship and leadership. As a result, CIEDI chose the Design Thinking methodology to encourage the children to learn, implement and define new ideas, concepts and possible solu ons through this problem solving approach. More than 200 students from 8th grade were put together and organized in design teams to compete against each other, trying to redefine and come up with proposals to solve different issues such as bullying, lack of quality me with the parents and sleeping problems. This was an experience that gave students from different schools the opportunity to share, interact, think collabora vely and show their crea ve skills during the session. The day started with a welcoming talk to all the schools that were par cipa ng, a briefing session that explained and defined the guidelines of the workshop, how design teams should work and a basic explana on to ensure that the method would be used to come up with possible solu ons. CIEDI´S 8th graders were previously trained and made aware of the Design Thinking approach, so that they would be performing as team leaders. 10th, 11th grade students and 13 CIEDI'S teachers provided assistance as mentors and tutors to guide, define the workflow and ensure design team results, based on each situa on given.

28

MYP CIEDI´S UCB Cultural day- Diseñando para innovar As a problem solving method, the Design Thinking process is used to define new ideas, solu ons, products, services and create new business models. Using it at an academic level, the stages allow students to define new possibili es, prototype ideas and new concepts, use different workflows, be collabora ve, improve their team work skills, be open-minded and become very visual and communica ve to come up with different solu ons and points of view. These are the key elements to enrich their learning process along the MYP and DP years. According to Tim Brown, President and CEO at IDEO: “Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innova on that draws from the designer's toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibili es of technology, and the requirements for business success.”

t the end, 3 different design teams from each problem defini on were selected to jus fy, explain and show their crea ve process and final outcomes in front of 3 judges and the audience. The judges were three professionals who were invited to par cipate in the innova on, management, leadership and entrepreneurship environment, together with their companies, to share and advice the students for everybody to benefit from their experience. Their delibera on was based on ques ons, comments and assessment criteria and the winner was a unique design team that came up with a conceptual proposal to help improve the sleeping experience. Each member got a KTRONIX price. The whole ac vity was a great experience that gave the students the chance to show their crea vity to deal with problems and come up with different kinds of solu ons. As a Technology Department leader I would like to thank all the Administra on Board, the Principal, Vice- Principal, members of the staff and students who helped to define and carry out such an extraordinary ac vity, which opened a possibility for the students to interact, share, laugh, work and learn from different experiences and points of view. We look forward to implemen ng this kind of events, where students can improve their crea ve and innova ve proposals.

MYP Palabras día del idioma Manifestando a travésdel empo

H
