JUNE 2012 President’s Message
What a year this has been! The Norwich Women’s Club is on a roll! • •
We started the year with a lively well-attended Fall Meeting. It was great to see new faces as well as old friends. The Annual Holiday Party presented another opportunity for festive fun. The Fall Nearly New Sale netted us our highest profit ever. Since the profits from the sale fund our annual scholarship awards, we decided to amortize the excess funds to provide level funding for the next four years. The Spring Nearly New Sale was one of the smoothest sales ever, and earned top tier profits as well. Congratulations to everyone involved. We updated our by-laws to create a more effective organizational structure. A fun-loving group of women spent an exceptional fall day at the Shelburne Museum. The spring brought another busload of women to tour the new American wing of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The Spring Gala, our new spring fundraising event, was a huge success. We earned enough money in the one-night event to continue funding all of the requests for community grants. While we were at it, we earned a lot of good will and new members, and created a smashing social event that made a transformed Tracy Hall the place to be. Local author Katharine Britton spoke about “Her Sister’s Shadow” at the sell-out Book and Author luncheon. A new monthly drop-in “Coffee and Conversation”, on the third Monday of each month at the Norwich Inn, has provided another social opportunity as well as a chance to tell interested women about the NWC. We are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful Norwich Women’s Club triangle garden all summer long. The summer will once again bring us the NWC Friday evening Concerts on the Green.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you on June 5 at our annual meeting at Carol Loveland’s beautiful B&B on Butternut Lane and all the other wonderful NWC events. Have a great summer! Arline
