North Shore Land Alliance
Wine Auction Weekend & Golf and Tennis Outing 2020 Digital Journal
Wine Auction Weekend Extravaganza Followed by Golf & Tennis Outing The North Shore Land Alliance held five small fundraising events over a period of ten days this October to support the nonprofit’s land conservation efforts. Our annual Wine Auction Dinner was expanded into four separate events covering an entire weekend with a maximum attendance of 50 people each. The Golf & Tennis event followed ten days later. “This has certainly been a challenging year,” said Lisa Ott, Land Alliance President & CEO. “It was important that we move forward with hosting our events this year. I’m so very proud of the Land Alliance staff for making our recent marathon of events the success that they were. And I’m so grateful for the tremendous support we received from our community this year.” The Wine Auction Weekend festivities kicked off on Friday, October 2 with two asado dinners both generously hosted in two different locations at Groton Place. The 108-acre preserved estate in Old Westbury is owned by longtime Land Alliance supporters and trustees, Julie and Luis Rinaldini. The smell of roasting meats lingered in the crisp fall air as guests perused various wines and silent auction offerings. Just 24 hours later, another Land Alliance event was held at the Seawanhaka Yacht Club on Centre Island where guests enjoyed cocktails and a delicious dinner under a blanket of stars. Wine was won, wine was lost, songs were sung by a fire as the evening came to a close - a reminder that normal moments are still possible.
On Sunday, nearly 30 people attended a lovely lunch at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley. Paula Youngs Weir, owner of Youngs Farm, gave a fascinating lecture on the history of women in conservation on Long Island as well as the Youngs’ family history in the evolution of our community. Thank you to the wine auction chairs Allison and Jay Aston, Kate and Chad Doerge, Jenna Bush Hager and Henry Hager, Amory and Sean McAndrew and Claudia and Gunnar Overstrom for helping to make these events fun for all who attended. The Golf & Tennis outing took place on Wednesday, October 14. Hope and John Reese and Phyllis and Brad Weekes were honored this year for their extraordinary commitments to preserving the natural areas on the North Shore. A big thank you to the sponsors, event hosts, auction donors, honorees and party-goers for making these events possible this year. We are also extremely grateful for the continuing support of our mission to protect and preserve our precious North Shore communities.

What is Your Conservation Legacy? One of the most powerful ways to sustain the North Shore Land Alliance’s mission over time is to build endowments in support of conservation, stewardship, general operations and education. Planned gifts are an essential part of endowment building and the Land Alliance’s future. Whether it is a gift by Will after first providing for your
family’s needs, or trust ensuring steady and reliable income for life, there is a gift planning solution for you.
