Enjoy Canada Day in a different way It is that time of year again that we celebrate when our great nation officially came to be named Canada. The Great White North will be turning 147 years old this birthday celebration. What will you be doing to show your support this year? Perhaps sporting some red clothes, maybe heading out to the lake or watching some fireworks? How about doing something different this year? Jo Berry of the Run Club is well known in the community for spearheading the Boogie the Bridge. She has also created a wacky and fun Canada Day run named the Get Canadian Run. This active and family oriented event is a great way to start off your July 1 celebrations. The run begins at McArthur Island at 8:30am. There is a two, five or ten kilometer run you can choose from. This is the second annual event for families and the casual runner. “We had around 100 participants for the first year,” comments Jo. “The real reason I started this run is my philosophy around family fitness. I wanted to create a run to get kids moving, is noncompetitive and is celebrating Canada.”

The Get Canadian Run is a wonderful way to start your Canada Day Celebrations. You, your family and friends can dress in your best Canada Day colours and get moving together.

This is the only Canada Day run/ walk in Kamloops. So if you are looking for a different and active way to show your national pride, the Get Canadian Run is perfect for you. There will be lots of great prizes, themed water tables,

face painting water guns, an awesome DJ and so much more. “The idea is to be a Canada Day mini festival. We are done at the park around 10:30am so that people can head off to other Canada Day activities,” Jo adds.

The two-kilometer walk will go around the park, the five will go around the park and into some of the Rivers Trail and the ten will go around the Rivers Trail. “There will be lots of music and team - continued on page 2
