Local Elders Corner The fall season is fast approaching and with it we will begin to enjoy some cooler temperatures. I think the changing of the seasons is a wonderful blessing; although I must admit that I like spring and summer better than fall and winter. For me, there’s just such a wonderful excitement as the cold, gray days gives way to warmer and longer ones. As an additional benefit, there are beautiful flowers and migratory birds to enjoy. Of course, the seasons wouldn’t exist if the moon didn’t orbit Earth. It’s all quite amazing if you stop to consider the awesomeness of creation and our Creator. But why did God create Earth? First, I think we exist to bear testimony to the Universe that God is love. I mean what kind of Creator would make such an awesome planet and then allow disobedient children to take control of it? And no, I’m not saying that God doesn’t maintain the ultimate control of Earth, but he has allowed us to push the envelope and create or invent many things that have altered the purposes for which they were created. Secondly, I think that we exist to bear testimony that God is a being that desires to establish an intimate relationship with his created people. For me, this is the most remarkable quality about God. I found Him just standing there saying “I’m Here” and willing to come into a friendship with me, a person that had no redeemable qualities. Not only that, but he wanted to share His wonderful plan for my life and lead me into a more vibrant existence. Why do you think God would want to do such a thing? I think we’ve all heard that He wants to reveal to the Universe that He is a loving, fair and just God and that Satan’s accusations about Him are false. But I also think He is a God of relationships and wants to be intimate with His created beings. Why else would He place this planet in such a perfect position to see the heavens and discover the Universe? The authors of the book “Privileged Planet” Guillemo Gonzales (Astronomer) and Jay Richards (Philosopher) make the assertion that, “the same narrow circumstances that allow us to exist also provide us with the best overall setting for making scientific discoveries.” In other words, God gave us the knowledge, ability and the creative wherewithal to discover Him in His universe. He wasn’t hiding; he was waiting to hear our footsteps….And then He gave us a glimpse of the infinite. May you choose to seek Him daily. Maranatha! Local Elder Leslie Ewald

DOLLARS AND SENSE Today, we live in serious financial times. The newspapers, radios, televisions, and magazines shout their messages. Groceries are going up. The food budget is getting higher and higher. Items in packages cut one or two for the same price. It is a challenge to go shopping. How about the price of gasoline? Here are some Bible texts to read. Gen 1: 26-28, 2:15, I Chron 29: 14 , Haggai 3:3-11; Mal. 3: 8- 12; I Cor. 9: 9-14; Matt.23: 23; 2 Cor. 8: 1 15;Rom.15: 26.27.
The food pantry is in great need of being replenished. We need all kinds of canned fruit, vegetables, soups of all varieties, dry boxed cereal, saltine crackers, 4pk. packages of toilet paper and paper towels single wrapped. Thank you for all the generous help from our North Valley Church Family in this matter. In God's Service, Judy Marshall, Community Service Leader

Demonstrate your trust in me by sitting quietly in my presence. Put aside all that is waiting to be done, and refuse to worry about anything. This sacred time together strengthens you and prepares you to face whatever the day will bring. By waiting with Me before you begin the day’s activities, you proclaim the reality of My living Presence. This act of faith waiting before working—is noted in the spirit world, where your demonstration of trust weakens principalities and powers of darkness. The most effective way to resist evil is to draw near Me. When you need to take action, I will guide you clearly through My Spirit and My Word. The world is so complex and overstimulation that you can easily lose your sense of direction. Doing countless unnecessary activities will dissipate your energy. When you spend time with Me. I restore your sense of Direction. As you look to Me for guidance, I enable you to do less but accomplish more. Jesus Calling August 29 page 252
