Pastor’s Corner Dear Church Family, Malachi 3:8, 10 says, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.9. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” The word tithe means “tenth.” When we receive our paycheck, or some other form of financial increase, God says that the first 10 percent of that money belongs to Him. But the verse doesn’t just read “tithes” but rather “tithes and offerings.” God does not specify the amount we are to give for an offering. He instead leaves that up to us to decide. If we are faithful in returning His tithe and giving an offering according to the way we have been blessed God promises to throw open the windows of heaven and shower us with more blessing than we can handle. When someone returns their tithe on Sabbath morning 100% of that money is sent away to the conference. Tithe money covers the salary of pastors and teachers, and missionaries around the world. The money that covers expenses in our local church is the offering money. Offering money pays the mortgage on our building, the power bill which keeps our church cool in the summer, the gas bill which keeps our church warm in the winter, the water bill, sewer, and phone. We count on the offering money to pay all of our local expenses. If you have noticed the monthly giving on the back of your church bulletin you will see that our giving has been running behind lately. It is great when we give to other causes in the church like community services or personal ministries but tithe and offerings must come first. Enough said about money, how about our time? Do we give God an appropriate amount of our time apart from just attending Sabbath School and Church? Contributing money is important but we also need people who are committed to serving in the church. One way to determine if we are spending enough time serving God is to ask ourselves a question. The question is this: “If everyone in our church spent the same amount of time that I spend serving God would the church be successful or a failure?” Romans 12:1, says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Does that describe you and me? Remember that when we return money (tithes), give
money (offerings), or sacrifice our time (personal time) for the church we are doing so for the Lord Jesus Christ. These are all marks of being a healthy disciple.

DOLLARS AND SENSE We are living in difficult times. Hard financial times are sweeping across our nation and a number of nations in the world. As church members we are living through these difficult times. We have a church that has bills to pay as well. We need to keep the church budget in our personal or family budget. Let us remember the Church Budget and God will take care of us.
Heath Nugget: Female infants in China who have been fed formula have been growing breasts, another disaster from hormones in milk production. According to the official Chinese Daily newspaper, medical tests performed on the babies found levels of estrogens circulating in their bloodstreams that are as high as those found in most adult women. These babies are between four and 15 months old. And the evidence is overwhelming that the milk formula they have been fed is responsible. Synutra, the company that makes the baby formula consumed by these babies, says it's not their fault. They insist that "no man-made hormones or any illegal substances were added during the production of the milk powder." Then what is the source of the hormones? A Chinese dairy association says the hormones could have entered the food chain when farmers reared the cows. "Since a regulation forbidding the use of hormones to cultivate livestock has yet to be drawn up in China," says Wang Dingmian, the former chairman of the dairy association in the southern province of Guangdo, "it would be lying to say nobody uses it." Bovine growth hormones are used in China, as they are in the U.S., to promote greater milk production. An extraordinary number of food products sold in the U.S. today come from China. Could some of this tainted formula be making its way to the U.S.? There is currently no way for consumers to know whether infant formula they might purchase has been made with milk products from China.
