Thermal Imaging Camera

Northfield Ecocentre is delighted to announce the arrival of its Infrared Thermal Imaging device. The findings from handheld camera will be incorporated into the assessments which will aid us in pinpointing areas of unnecessary heat loss. The pictures below demonstrate how this technology works.

Ecocentre front wall: A normal visual spectrum coloured picture.

The infrared spectrum which can tell us how much heat an area is emitting. The front wall of the building is producing very little heat, therefore not much heat is escaping.

For more thermal imaging photographs visit:

NOT Northfield Ecocentre: In contrast this picture demonstrates that a lot of heat is escaping through the walls but not through the windows; which suggests they have double glazing but no wall insulation. There is also a crack in the wall which is releasing a lot of heat (white mark below the window).

Escape the Cheese! A huge thank you to Tim Atkinson and Rachna Shah and all the fantastic volunteers who raised £125 for our Northfield’s Orchards project at an alternative Valentine’s event in February. Sick of all the usual Valentine’s day events, they got together to organise a night avoiding all the cheese and clichés of Valentines, held at Urban Coffee Company In Birmingham. As well as live music and performance by Mellow Peaches and Chris Garghan, local organisations kindly donated raffle prizes, including Lush, The Electric Cinema, and Alessi's Ark. Thanks to everyone who came along. The money will help us to plant 1400 across Northfield over 2 years. Help us by sponsoring a tree, providing a location or planting the trees with us.
