HELLO! Hello! Welcome to February’s Beer Club box.

This month sees a mixture of new beers from North and a couple of ‘away’ leg collaborations brewed this year.

We were lucky enough to be invited to participate in Yakima Chief Hop’s Fresh Hop project, teaming up with Full Circle to brew with Mosaic hops that had been flash frozen as soon as they were picked from the bine. We brewed both the home and away beers in the space of 48 hours, with brewers from each brewery travelling between Newcastle and Leeds to brew together.

We also have a Brown Ale brewed down in Bristol at Newtown Park. Newtown Park were set up during Covid, and we became friends with them this summer pouring together at

beer festivals across the UK. Sam headed down south to brew with them, and his parents came up from Somerset to surprise him!

This month sees a range of styles from Springwell - The Imperial West Coast IPA has been a real favourite with the brew team, but my favourite this month is the brand new beer, The Karman Line, which I keep asking to do quality control on... We also managed to sneak in a brew with Sweden’s Stigbergets when they were visiting family this Christmas, and brewed up a Swedish inspired TFG together.

THE SNOWHOLE CHALLENGE

HELP TEAM MATT RAISE MONEY TO DONATE TO MIND, BRADFORD Our very own Matt Ashworth, from the brewery team, and Magic Matt Bailey, who looks after the property at North, will be braving the subzero temperatures of the Cairngorms, Scotland in March in aid of Mind in Bradford. Their threeday expedition will see them trekking/climbing an altitude of 1309m and digging their very own snowhole, where they will be settling in for two nights.

A big, unapologetic West Coast IPA. US classics Chinook and Cascade take hold with their intense and sticky resinous character and Azacca finishing with its uncompromising fresh and zesty passion fruit flavour. All laid on a luscious, smooth, biscuity and bitter, caramelised apple malt base.

You know the drill, our signature thick, slick and salty gose recipe made up of big doses of oats, ale malt, salt and a sprinkle of lactose is infused with ALL of the organic fruit purée!

This time we’ve hooked up with Sweden’s finest, Stigbergets Bryggeri, to make up a PINK Triple Fruited Gose with a nod to Stigberget’s home turf.

Raspberry is up first bringing its classic sweet, tart and earthy goodness. Next up is lingonberry, stepping in with a smack of drying sourness, heady fragrance and almost fluorescent hue!

Finishing this triple fruited affair we have damson. Rich, sweet and fleshy and rosy aroma.

Vic Secret + El Dorado Citra + Simcoe

A bouncy, chewy and smooth double dry hopped IPA loaded with Vic Secret, El Dorado, Citra and Simcoe hops. A splendour of saturated fruit salad flavours of pineapple, raspberry and peach light up the forefront with a juicy squash of white grape and dank resin on the finish.

NORTH x SQUARE BALL Style

California Pale Ale

We’ve teamed up with The Square Ball, the Leeds United Fanzine and Podcast, for a collab beer to celebrate Leeds United’s win and move up to the Premier League. This is a beer we’ve been cooking up for a while, praying that our planning didn’t jinx them! The beer is the perfect weeknight drop: A Californian style Pale Ale brewed with Citra, Mosaic, Cascade and Chinook hops. The beer has tropical fruity notes with a light bitterness.

A beer that needs no introduction, it’s Transmission, our beloved core range IPA! New England meets California! Resinous pine, pithy pink grapefruit zest, savoury spice and fleshy ripe pineapple combines with a soft haze of juicy stone fruits and sweet mango.

Transmission is an award winning IPA and our core range headliner. A beer we’re incredibly proud of and one that stands up against the best brewing has to offer!

Lost Cosmonauts has been a part of the North family for a while now. An unsung hero of our regular brews, we’re putting it in the Beer Club spotlight to show it some love! Since we first brewed it back in March 2019 we’ve been tweaking and adjusting the recipe to bring it to where it is now. We started building the recipe from our beloved Transmission, adjusting the alcohol content and dry hopping schedule to a double dry hop to amp up the profile! Loaded with the iconic Mosaic and backed up with Ekuanot and Columbus, it covers a lot of ground on the flavour scale. Fresh piney aroma and flavour are upfront and rounded off with bags of intense sharp tropical pineapple and guava and rich apricot and mango stone fruit. It’s always a good day at the brewery when Lost Cosmonauts is making its way into cans, the underfill box doesn’t last long.

Yakima Chief Hops brought a fresh batch of hops to the UK, picked straight from the bine, and flash frozen. No drying, no pelletising, whole-leaf Azacca hop cones given to us in the exact same condition as when they were harvested i n Washington state! A classic American IPA bursting with citrus notes, pairing beautifully with a strong resinous backbone, and woody aromatic notes in the background.”
