Sanctuary The Newsletter for Norman Regional Health Foundation
The Foundation is pleased to announce the installation of Sanctuary, our art for healing project that has been in the works for over a year. April 22nd was the grand unveiling of the public art piece and many showed their support for the Foundation, the new Norman Regional Moore and this wonderful artwork. Donors were on hand to help welcome this piece to Moore as the new “selfie” spot in central Oklahoma.
Sanctuary was designed by Brower Hatcher and Mid-Ocean Studios of Rhode Island. The public art piece, Hatcher’s first piece in Oklahoma, graces the entrance to Norman Regional Moore. The base that supports the crystal structure is designed in the shape of the Norman Regional Health System logo, which symbolizes the links between physicians, staff, patients and community. This is Hatcher’s first public art using crystals. The 2,000 crystals will bathe onlookers in prismatic light during sunny days in hopes to heal and uplift. The iGive Campaign was a huge success, with 38% of our employees participating and donating to the Foundation. Because of these groovy gifts, the Foundation will be able to fund many future departmental grant requests, provide educational opportunities, and award scholarships for students continuing their education. A BIG thank you to the 2016 iGive Committee and Champions for helping to raise funds for our health system. We are proud to announce the 2017 Campaign Co-Chairs: Greg Peery and Jennifer Walker.
Norman Regional Health Foundation was recently awarded a $62,353 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The grant will fund a bi-directional amplifying system for the new Norman Regional Moore facility. This new equipment will add additional safety instruments to aid first responders. The bi-directional amplifying system is technology that enhances in-building signals across a range of frequencies and applications.

Belknap Memorial Premedical Proctorship Educating and inspiring the next generation of health care professionals is the goal of the Belknap Memorial Premedical Proctorship, a unique program at Norman Regional that gives pre-medical students an up-close look at a health system. The late Dr. Hal Belknap, with support from Norman Regional Hospital, created the premedical proctorship program in 1989. Dr. B wanted to offer students who were seeking a profession in medicine the opportunity to experience various disciplines of the practice first hand. His legacy is carried on today through the Foundation office and support from local physicians. Thank you to the following physicians for providing this experience: Dr. Andrew Black, Dr. Jonathan Bryan, Dr. Jeff Buyten, Dr. John Chace, Dr. Clay Cochran, Dr. Eileen Fox, Dr. Taysha Howell, Dr. Misty Hsieh, Dr. Valerie Manning, Dr. Rick McCurdy, Dr. Tom Merrill, Dr. Lubna Mirza, Dr. Jeremy Moore, Dr. Mark Moses, Dr. Lesa Mulligan, Dr. Mudassir Nawaz, Dr. Kevin O’Brien, Dr. Vytautas Ringus, Dr. Victor Wilson, Dr. Kim Wise, Dr. Joe Womble, Dr. Amanda Wright, and Dr. Brian Yeaman. The 2016 Proctorship students are: Back row: Derek Nguyen, Spencer Huynh, Derek Lehman, Jordan Stafford, Heather McDaniel. Front row: Tyler Dulworth, Uzma Sandhu, Ronnie Nguyen, Morgan Smith.
