Volunteer Park Run


July/August 2011 It has been a hectic spring with the gazebo out on the road for ‘smile month’ , volunteer week, breastfeeding awareness week and much more! ..But with summer on the way there is no time for rest. From hula hooping to Brazilian dance forms, it’s all here!

Last month saw the second meeting of the Park Run Thetford Team. We are finalising a venue for the Park Run, a weekly free 5km run open to all. We aim to get as many people enjoying a walk, jog or run on their Saturday morning as possible. We need lots of volunteers to make this happen so get in touch to be involved!

New Combat Bootcamp sessions for children!! A bootcamp session for 10-16 year olds will now run alongside the regular Thursday adult class held at Breckland Leisure Centre (6.30-7.30pm). A fantastic way for friends and relatives to have fun working out together. A 6 week course, starting 14 July, will be £30 for adults and £20 for 10-16s with limited subsidised places available thanks to the Benjamin Foundation. Capoeira Hits Town!! You will be forgiven for not having the slightest clue what ‘Capoeira’ is...we only learnt recently! It is an exciting fusion of martial arts and dance that started out with slaves in Brazil in the 1500s. Celebrating Smile Month & Volunteer week at the gazebo in May

Healthy Start — what’s it all about? The Healthy Start scheme aims to get babies off to a good start in life by making getting all the nutrients they need to stay healthy easy and affordable for all. If you are pregnant, or have a child under 4 years old, you may be entitled to vouchers which can be spent on milk and fresh or frozen vegetables and fruit. The scheme also provides coupons that can be exchanged for vitamins for you and your child. Who can access the scheme? • All mums under 18 years old or, • If you get income support or, • Income based job seekers allowance or, • Income-related employment and support allowance or, • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit unless your family is receiving Working Tax Credit run-on only) AND an annual family income of £16,190 or less in 2010/2011. How do you apply? It’s really simple, just have a word with your midwife, health visitor or GP for an application form. Alternatively, you can call Healthy Start on 0845 607 6823. Once you have your vouchers you can exchange them in lots of shops. Thetford Food & Drink Festival 2011! Why not come and taste some of Norfolk’s finest local produce on Saturday 27th August from 10.00-15.00 at the Market Place in Thetford. You will be able to sample and experience a variety of foods from different countries and cultures and see what foods we have right on our doorstep.
