Sale Time for Tues., April 26th: 9:00 Fed Cattle, followed by weigh cows & bulls, 12:30 pm Feeder Cattle. Bred Cows & Bulls Super moisture this week, but a very darn cold rain. Let’s hope for some warmer weather. Big issue this week coming out of Washington, D.C. in regards to drug residues in livestock. Much attention focused on the cull cows with heavy emphasis on the dairies. More than ever I think it will be extremely important to keep track of your antibiotic usage on your livestock operation. A simple notebook, much like a calving book, would be a very good idea. As always it is vital to keep track of the treated animals and to never market anything before the proper withdrawal times. We’ve been doing a great job in this part of the country and we must remain steadfast in our approach in keeping our meat supply the safest in the world! Monday we sent 2 dump trucks, 3 bobcats and 5 men to Mapleton to help with the clean up effort. The outpouring of support shown has been fantastic. Schools have sent busloads of students. I know the cattlemen grilled this weekend for the volunteers, and officials said they could still use more volunteers for the clean up effort. Funds have been set up at the local banks and I know cash donations would be greatly appreciated! FED CATTLE/WEIGH COWS TUESDAY, APRIL 12TH: Fed cattle were lower. After the huge run up a week ago packers seem to have their short term supplies a little better managed. We’ll see new croppers hitting the market place, but they’ll be lighter. Also all those lighter placed cattle that didn’t go to wheat will be coming to market much lighter than normal. A summer rally??? Maybe so. Ground beef demand appears great, and so are the appetites of the cow packers. We continue to see large runs of weigh cows across the country. We have a “Big” weigh cow special this week. The next one will be Tues., May 3rd.
