What’s on in November! Hi Everyone! Welcome to the November edition of the vinvolved newsletter! October has been action packed! There was the Mosaic training weekend for Community Champions in Okehampton, 30 volunteers attended the South West Revolution Festival 2010 at Montacute House in Somerset, the annual YAT weekend residential took place at Golant Youth Hostel in Fowey & had training in Photoshop & Indesign & PEA held a very successful conservation weekend residential in Barnstaple becoming experts in hedgelaying & pumpkin carving! Plus there was the marine survey event organised by MarLIN, the Cancer Research 10K Run & the Big Bear Walk with CHICKs. There are many more amazing volunteering opportunities going on this month- so read on to find something exciting to get involved in!

☺Monday 29 November – We are organising a massive all day BTCV celebration event for staff & volunteers from Devon & Cornwall at West Ham Farm, near Exeter. Activities will include tree planting, building a hazel bender, taking part in workshops on: willow weaving, pottery, story telling and graffitti art, and nature walks. Food will be provided & volunteer awards will be presented! th

November YAT Agenda 2010 What is YAT? YAT (Youth Action Team) is a group of young people who help spread the word of volunteering to other young people in Plymouth in interesting and innovative ways! If you’re full of great ideas, have skills to share, want to help organise volunteer celebrations or get involved with some fundraising, then this is the group for you! What have we been up to? Since 2008 YAT have organised two ‘Vestivals’ (a day long festival in Plymouth City Centre, which celebrated youth volunteering across the city with music, food and activities!), created a volunteer handbook, made a DVD (which is used in school presentations), produced their first magazine ‘Evolution’, and organised big volunteer celebrations! THIS MONTH: We are now recruiting new members & planning how to run VESTIVAL 2011!

If you would like to get involved, the YAT meets every Monday 5.30pm – 6.30pm, at the BTCV office on Mutley Plain. Feel free to come along!

Need help completing your log books? On Wednesday 24th November we will be holding our monthly V awards drop in session. The session will run between 3pm – 7pm @ the BTCV office. Drop in at any point to get help with your award or get your certificate!

Are you 17-25? Dynamic and enthusiastic? We need you! In 2008 Antony House and garden were chosen as the sole location by Hollywood director Tim Burton to film Alice in Wonderland. Following the film release in spring the Antony House will once again be transformed! We need Guest Relation Volunteers to help out visitors and staff ensuring the smooth running of the property. You will help guests discover more about Antony and the Alice project by answering questions and signposting them to particular parts of the property.

Help the Scouts! Plymouth District Scout groups are looking for young people to be volunteer leaders for various groups across the city.

Plymouth Play Association is an organisation that supports play opportunities in the Plymouth area and has the biggest selection of re-usable quality scrap for They require volunteers to work in the shop, scrap store, and help customers choose toys.

Brilliant Befrienders Needed! Are you 18-25? Passionate about supporting a vulnerable young person on a one to one basis? Then Coasts have the perfect opportunity for you! Then befriending could be for you! As a befriender you will be paired with a young person who may require support with issues such as confidence, self expression & communication. This interaction will be on a one to one basis at school/home, or through activities such as walks, coffee or bowling. You purpose will be to build a relationship of trust with your young person to enable them to talk about issues troubling them.

Barnardos Needs Youth Workers Barnardos is a children’s charity that supports children who are suffering or disadvantaged due to issues such as poverty, abuse, homelessness, in care and youth offending. Advocates are needed to represent and support young people & children in Plymouth during important meetings, reviews, case conferences etc. Independent Visitors will be carefully matched to a young person aged 8-18 and over a period of 1-2 years, befriend, advise and take part in positive activities with the young person. If you are 18-25, have one or two days free a fortnight and feel that you have the necessary skills to volunteer as an Advocate or Independent Visitor, please get in touch with the V Team now
