This portfolio contains an ever evolving collection of work that I am proud to attach my name to. These works date from the beginning of my formal architectural lessons at University and go to current day. My work and preferences in architecture are constantly changing and adapting to the higher standards that I hold my self to.

A renovation and addition to a historic East Lawrence Limestone house, guided off the original shape and scale. Extruded existing profile to create mass timber frames to support the repeating form. A complete wood shop that can take rough-sawn lumber all the way to finished product. Emergence M i d p o i n t b e t we e n M a s s . S t re e t a n d L a w rence’s new cul t ural dis t r ic t. T he Emergence house and shop makes way to a catalyze the area bet ween the t wo local hubs. Continuing of f of the large design oriented focus of each area, Emergence is a mixed use project containing a single family home and an after school sculpture studio for local kids. Hermann Transit Hub The Missouri River Runner is an Amtrak line through river communities between Kansas City and St. Louis. Hermann, Missouri is a town whose economy is based off wineries and annual festivals making it a popular stop on the route. The Hermann Transit Hub is an updated mixed-use Amtrak station that serves as a continuation of the downtown strip while providing spaces for retail, events, dining, and housing.

Rhode Island Makes

As a craftsman everything that you make is built with fine detail and professionalism. This kind of interaction is not apparent with much of today ’s built environment. Historical neighborhoods such as Old East Lawrence are vibrant with the history of detail and are inhabited by patrons that support the craft and history within them. Craftsmen are the same, without a surrounding context of superb delicates a maker would lose the local inspiration that surrounds them. The Old East Lawrence Neighborhood is a place that takes pride in their architecture. Rhode Island Craft is an extension onto an existing limestone house and uses vernacular cues along with modern systems to create a new local artisan space. The existing building is remodeled into a gallery space that invites the local community to view the pieces that were manufactured within the neighborhood. The addition and gallery form a linear progression from raw materials entering the back of the addition, through the design and construction phases until the artwork finishes the journey at the gallery space in the original structure. The exterior space is a flexible environment with a meeting space for members of the community to host neighborhood town halls and other events.

Emergence

For a long time Lawrence has had one key gathering place - Mass. Street. It has embodied local intuition and creativeness. Constantly changing from one store to another while keeping the same atmosphere that surrounds it. Artist owned galleries, markets, studios, and supply shops. Recently Lawrence launched a new initiative to rebirth the old industrial district into the East Lawrence Cultural District. This area was to create that same atmosphere that Mass. Street was built on. Slowly in the recent years this Cultural District has been building itself up to bring in more people to shops and events that are in the district. Connection is the key to bring the two areas together. Currently between the two hubs stands 1/2 mile of neighborhoods. There is nothing pushing people to walk that journey from one area to the other and this limits overall use of either space. To inhibit pedestrian flow one must make a beacon that draws attention from both ends and spark curiosity. Emergence was formed for the purpose to draw traffic from one district to the other, this would make the in between area more attractive for businesses to move into this area further creating a bridge from Mass. Street to the East Lawrence Cultural District. Drawing from the arts influence of Lawrence, Emergence is a mixed use space. Single Family home with a detached sculpture studio/ gallery for local youth. This would allow patrons to engage with youth creativity as well as purchase pieces to help the students get recognized for their work.

Hermann Transit Hub

Virgin Hyperloop is a private transportation technology company aiming to develop ground transit that can move passengers and cargo at a fraction of the cost of airline speeds. Recently, Virgin Hyperloop proposed installing a Hyperloop that will run from Kansas City to St. Louis and passes through Columbia. The new development will drastically increase transpor tation between the two cities prompting new urban and infrastructure growth along the route. The Missouri River Runner is an outdated Amtrak route that is adjacent to the proposed Hyperloop route and connects smaller river communities to both Kansas City and St. Louis. Following the construction of the Hyperloop, the Amtrak River Runner will be updated similar to the transit infrastructure in Europe & Asia. These improvements would allow both systems; Hyperloop and Amtrak, to seamlessly work in tandem. Hermann is a small communit y that is home to 10 Wineries, scenic wedding venues, and a collection of locally owned hotels which ser ve as a place of relaxation between events. Hermann hosts a number of well known seasonal wine trails, as well as Oktoberfest, and an array of other festivals through out the year. Hermann is currently out of the way for many people, located almost four hours east of Kansas city and over an hour west of St. Louis by rail. The updated Amtrak line in addition to the Herman Transit Hub will provide additional opportunities for people to visit. Extending the downtown strip by including retail, dining, sampler bars, event space, hotel rooms, and 10 apartment units.
