Effects of Fish Consumption on Serum Lipid Level among People in Yao Noi Island, Phang Nga Province. Abstract Hyperlipidemia is the major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases which caused by physical exercise lacking, smoking, drinking and improper diet consumption. Recent studies showed that marine fish consumption can reduce this risk factor. The objective of study examined the fish consumption improves serum lipid level. The effects of fish consumption on serum lipid level were performed in eighty volunteer who live in Yao Noi Island, Phang Nga Province. The volunteer were divided into two groups, 40 persons per group. The control group was live normal lifestyle in Yao Noi Island. In treated group, fish dish was added in 200 grams per meal, 2 meals weekly for 4 weeks. Both groups were live in proper lifestyle for 8 weeks. The bloods of all sample population were collected at 0, 4 and 12 weeks of experimental period for determination of cholesterol triglyceride LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels. The results revealed the cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels of the sample populations in the fourth week of experiment were reduce significant different from the levels at 0-week (p<0.05). In experimental group, these levels showed more reduce trend than in the control group. After 12 weeks of experiment, the cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were increasing in all groups and significant different from the levels at 4 weeks (p<0.05). These indicated that fish consumption has effect on the decreasing of cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels. In conclusion, fish consumption can be the way to lower serum lipids in people who had the risk factor of cardiovascular diseases.
