AJHS—Searcy Public Schools Class Policy Sheet Course: Keyboarding Teacher: Mrs. Nicholson Career & Technical Education Department Course Description: Keyboarding is an 18-week course designed to teach students the proper techniques utilizing touch typing skills in order to format, key documents and be able to input information in a technology advancing world. Text & Software: Applied Computer Keyboarding, 6th edition—Hoggart and Shank, MicroType 5 & Microsoft Word 2007 Class Supplies: ½” or 1” binder or folder, pen/pencil Class Requirements Class work—Because this is a hands-on class, work in class will mainly consist of computer assignments. All activities to be completed on the computer will be assigned and finished in class. Summary reports will be printed every Friday and daily assignments will be due at that time. Documents—Various documents/projects will be assigned once students have learned the alphanumeric keys. Documents will include: paragraphs, essays, letters, memos, research papers, outlines, title pages, and reports. Tests—Tests will be given periodically to determine skill proficiency. Tests will be written and/or performance based. All assignments & tests must be turned in by the designated due date. If you have an excused absence, your due date will be extended. Make-up work must be made up two days after your first day back. It is your responsibility to print out and turn in all graded assignments. I do not accept late work. Classroom Expectations: 1. Be in your seat ready to work before the tardy bell rings. 2. Come prepared with pen/pencil, binder or folder, agenda, and positive attitude daily. 3. Chairs are to be kept at your workstation. (Do not roll around or play in the chairs!!) 4. No food or drinks allowed in this classroom. (This includes gum and candy). 5. Each student is expected to respect each other and take care of all equipment, materials & each other. (Students will pay for any damaged equipment or supplies.) 6. Follow all AJHS Computer Lab and Internet Policy Guidelines. 7. All other school rules as stated in the student handbook will be enforced in this classroom.
Tardies & Absences Tardies and absences will be handled as described in the 2011-2012 AJHS Student Handbook. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get your assignments. Make-up work must be made up two days after your first day back. If you miss several days at once, check with me about when you assignments will be due. AJHS Computer Lab Policy and Internet The primary use of the computer network and/or Internet will be for educational purposes. It is understood that the use of the Internet is a privilege not a right. The school district reserves the right to monitor all computer and Internet activity. 1. Students may not move, repair, reconfigure, or modify the computer systems. (Examples: moving files around, changes to desktop settings, changing the control panel settings, or any other settings, etc.) 2. Students are expected to take care of all equipment. Do not write or mark on any equipment, materials in the lab or the furniture. If you notice that anything is messed up report it to the teacher immediately. 3. Students will not be allowed unsupervised access to the Internet and will not be able to play games on the Internet. 4. Students shall not seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files or passwords belonging to other users. 5. Students are not allowed to insert disk, CDâ€™s, or flash drives into the computers. Students can utilize their Web Locker on Edline for saving their document either at home or school. 6. Students will not set-up email accounts or check their own personal email accounts while at school. 7. Students may not use the Internet to access inappropriate files or files that might be dangerous to the integrity of the schoolâ€™s network. 8. Students are responsible for following all copyright laws. 9. Teachers and administrators can revoke computer and Internet privileges at any time. The student may also face other school district disciplinary actions. Searcy School District has implemented a district wide filtering system to prevent computer users from accessing material harmful to minors. Violation of this policy will result in the loss of computer use and/or Internet privileges, as well as possible disciplinary or legal actions.
