Preface After years of practice in professional environments, I have participated in projects of multiple types and phases. Those valuable working experiences have rendered me with comprehensive knowledge of the profession and fundamental skills required of a senior architectural designer. Being an archiectural designer, I am fascinated by both the challenges that come along in the design process and the significant impact of the design solutions on people’s lives.
LINH NGO 1821 W. Royale Dr. - Apt. 3A Muncie, Indiana, USA, 47304 (765) 7499473 firstname.lastname@example.org - email@example.com http://lnngo.wordpress.com
On the other hand, I am interested in incorporating architectural theories and the ongoing development of technology into practice. The Master’s degree in Architecture at Ball State University that I am taking, fortunately, has offered me golden opportunities of immersing in the current field discourses. The Program’s invited experts and academians in areas of sustainability, Net-zero design, digital fabrication, computer-aids design and social justice issues have brought lively and diversified perspectives to my professional development. These hereby selected works are the reflection of my journey in architecture over the years in both academic and professional environments. I hope they could help present my long-embraced ideology: A great architectural solution should well respond to real- world constraints of clients’ needs, financial resources and construction technologies while being the manifestation of the architect himself.

EXISTING PLAN & SITE BACKGROUND
SITE & CONTEXT
Existing Building Plan The project is located in the Center of the Art District, South West area of Downtown Columbus. The site uniquely faces three main development axes of the Plan of the Art District; Jackson Street is the Art Axis, Fourth Street is the Entertainment Axis and Fifth Street is the Architectural Axis. That brings both challenges and opportunites to the promotion of community activities in the area.
Existing building - The arcade
The existing building is in one-floor light-weight steel frame structure. It is the downtown Post Office designed by Kevin Roche in 1970. There were controversial opinions about the design of the Post Office; however, the arcade front side was regarded as the historical image of the building. The beam span and the facade of the parking building on the opposite side of Jackson Street were influenced by the architectural expression of the acarade.

Indigo Hotel - Brown Street 5
SPACE & MASS CONCEPT
This is the modern successor of the old arcade. A new floor is added and the footprint is twice bigger. Alunimium panel and glass facade produce a modern expression.
Past & Future Bridge Art Studios - community space
The excessive cantilever of the second floor on the Four St. emphasizes the horizontal mass of the arcade while being a visually appealing point to passengers on this busy entertainment street. For the purpose of activating the public space, this urban courtyard is the interesting space that attracts visitors from Fourth St. to the site. Activities in the courtyard would range from outdoor exhibitions, outdoor performances, to coffee shops, shopping in farmer markets, and other public events.
The Urban Courtyard It should increase revenue and The green core - Community add several LEED points to the activity hub. project.
This residental tower serves as the lankmark that attracts views from both passengers on Four St. & riders in the high traffic on Brown St.
The Vertical Landmark Extended stay residential tower.
Its plan is strategically rotated. The intention is to open the space to the courtyard while emphasizing the tower’s vertical mass to passengers on the above streets.

Main Entrance Interior Democratic and inviting spaces are widely openned to the green couryard. A mix-use of both indoor and outdoor spaces for community activities is expected.

Second Floor Lobby Interior An exquisite view is openned to the green roof outside. The lobby is also the gallery space for the 2D studios. Sun blinds would be applied for the interior space.

BUILDING SYSTEM DIAGRAM
The beam span of the new arcade was adjusted to be 24’, two-third of the existing span of 36’. It conforms well with the reserved structure while improving the facade rhythm on Jackson Street. It matches with the 24’ span of the Parking Structure on the opposite side. The footings of the existing columns were kept and renovated to become sitting spots. That helps remind of the old arcade while being an urban space for gathering.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN GARDEN SPACE
FACADE DESIGN NORTHWEST PERSPECTIVE
Garden corner The client wanted to have a modern house with luxury interior spaces. The architectural solution is demanded to be energy efficient with careful consideration about the extreme sunlight effects on the West side while the rooms need to remain opened to the garden around the house. The plot is rectangular with comfortable accesses from Northwest & Northeast sides. The house is placed close to the inner corner to reserve the front area for garden. Main interior spaces are opened to the garden to take in South east cool air flows.
Opennings on the West side are refrained due to the extreme sunlight. Wooden sun blinds are also used at the opennings on this side. 27
FIRST FLOOR INTERIOR DESIGN
The rooms are well interconnected to bring the ease of use and family atmosphere to the interior while they are still smoothly devided by the furniture. The nature is welcomed to the spaces as all rooms are openned to the garden. The main color theme is warm colors to bring warmth to the family. Materials are natural stone and paint.
Floor Plan LIVING ROOM
The dinning room is gently separeted from the living room with wooden shelves and decorations. The kitchen is devided into two parts. The bar is connected with the dinning table to make the dinning area while the cooking area is enclosed with glass partition to block the noise and the cooking smell. There is a mezzanine reading room above the garage with beautiful view to the garden down below.
