Objective Identify a dying or defunct brand, investigate its mission and brand legacy, and create a completely new visual identity. Based on the new brand guidelines, develop a set of business opportunities for the brand to thrive beyond its original industry..
Keywords Adventure Innovation Performance Typeface Avenir Garamond
Approach I chose the brand Quiksilver, an iconic surf brand that has pioneered generations of progression and innovation through its surf-inspired apparel and accessories. After a considerable amount of research into the brand, I designed a new visual system based on the concept, defined detailed brand standards, and came up with a wide range of business expansions that will elevate many aspects of people’s lives.

Re-envision the graphic materials for a real-world annual design conference, TypeCon, by crafting a concept that drives the new design direction.
Objective Choose a design conference and redesign visual materials to accompany it. The concept will guide the choices of color and type and influence the aesthetic of the grid. Every design decision should rely on the concept for direction. Approach The new design features a combination of serif and sans-serif typefaces to express the word TypeCon in different languages (Hindi, Chinese, Arabic, and Japanese), emphasizing the concept of the conference. The purpose of TypeCon is to explore the realms of typography and type design, printing and letterpress, calligraphy, book arts, publishing, and type technologies, including web fonts.

Objective Explore and experiment with typographic form in a new way and take ideas and techniques from various explorations. Then, choose a poster to redesign into a set of three versions. Be able to defend the work by articulating and envisioning an internal logic, narrative, strategy, process, and explanation. Approach The 2017 crime thriller movie Hangman is about a homicide detective who recruits his retired partner to help him catch a serial killer that leaves clues in the style of a children’s guessing game. Objective Design a “coffee table” style photography book aimed at an audience of photographers, art lovers, and designers. This is not a whole book, but rather a “sample setting” with a cover. The book sample should be clearly designed and informative.
Keywords Minimalist Composition Typeface Garamond Franklin Gothic
Approach The approach I took to this design was to account for all of the elements of book design, such as cover, chapter openings, text pages, endnotes, and so on. In the process, I learned how to provide readers with a clear path, guiding their eyes in a manner that is informative, yet entertaining. My job as designer is to showcase the work contained in the book in the best possible light.
