COPYRIGHT WHAT IS COPYRIGHT LAW?
HOW DID YOU KEEP TO COPYRIGHT LAW IN THE AUDIO AND VISUAL ELEMENTS OF YOUR PRODUCTION?
The copyright law is made up of federal laws protecting the work of others, so that people are not able to imitate the work and claim it as their own. The copyright law also protects the authenticity of a piece of work and it is also illegal to share or download works like music and books.
I immediately kept to copyright law as I had asked the band for permission of the usage of their song which the band agreed to after I explained that it would only be used for a school project.
OFCOM OFCOM REGULATION
PROTECTING UNDER 18s
HARM AND OFFENCE
DESCRIBE THE PARTS OF THE HOW DID YOU KEEP TO IT IN CODE RELEVANT TO MUSIC YOUR PRODUCTION? VIDEO PRODUCTION Ofcom protects under 18s with the rule watershed which states that anything that is unsuitable like offensive of harmful material like strong language and violence should be showed after 21:00 and before 05:30. This is due to children mimicking the actions of the actors they see on the TV. The watershed protects the younger audience by showing inappropriate shows at late times or asking parents for a pin. Harm and offence is where violence, suicide and dangerous behaviour are not included in a music video. This is so that viewers cannot be encouraged to copy the acts of violence that they see as it is easy for children to imitate the violence which could be harmful to them as they do not understand the consequences of their actions for themselves and other people This is to ensure that there is not any footage that could encourage the audience to act disorderly and break the law.
The music video does not include any violence or strong language throughout the video. It also does not have any sexual content though the music video is about a couple with the girl cheating and the boy finding his happy ever after with his ex-girlfriend’s best friend. However this would not encourage children to do this as it shows them that they should be careful in a relationship and to be a good friend. The music video does not contain any harmful or violent scene which means that the younger viewers can watch the video without being encouraged to do anything harmful or violent. A scene in the music video where the boyfriend confronts his girlfriend he is using his hands to express how he feels about her cheating and that they are over, though we made sure there was no strong language. The music video does not contain any crime as it is based around a couple who break up and go their own separate ways. This means that there is nothing for the audience to copy from as they will have nothing they can mimic besides being a bad friend.
Fairness is where the cast and crew are treated equally and there is no unfair treatment towards them.
Privacy is used to ensure that the public are safe and away from harm. It also needs to be consented by the organisation or the person involved.
During the production of filming we made sure that all the actors were aware of what they were filming on that day and that we were patient with them when they got distracted, for example when one of the crew would laugh it would spark the rest of us into laughing so we had to control our laughter by turning away from the shot or blocking them out. Before we started the production of our music video we had all the actors sign a release form that they would be okay working in our music video. We also explained what the music video was about before they signed it so they knew what they were going to be doing.
INSURANCE TYPE OF INSURANCE
DESCRIBE WHAT THE TYPE OF INSURANCE COVERS
HOW WOULD IT HAVE AFFECTED YOUR PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT?
Public liability is an insurance that would cover any compensation someone has claimed due to them being injured by any media equipment. It also covers any damage to the equipment.
This would have only affected the production management when we went to Westfield and when we filmed in the park. However the area we filmed in Westfield there was not many people so we were not really affected though in the park people kept walking past us but they would stop if we were filming then carry on. This affected the management when we began filming as our main actor had to film his own music video so we had to make the schedule around him and make sure the other actors were also free that day. It also affected us when we had to re film as the weekend we needed to re film none of our actors were free so we had to film after school.
Completion is where the film/music video will be completed by a date that was already set for them.
TRADE UNIONS WHAT IS THE ROLE OF BECTU IN MEDIA PRODUCTION?
HOW MUCH WOULD THE CREW FOR YOUR MUSIC VIDEO HAVE COST IF YOU HAD PAID BECTU RATES? (ITEMISE EACH ROLE AND THE NUMBER OF DAYS YOU FILMED/EDITED)
The role of BECTU in a media production is an independent trade union that works with people in broadcasting, film, theatre and entertainment. They represent people living primarily in the United Kingdom. The union also has 4 key aims which are: “protecting jobs, increase membership, win new recognition agreements and improve pay and conditions of service, including pensions
The rates for all the people that were involved with making the music video and being a part of the music video vary as all the jobs we would have done were different. For example I was the director of the music video but I also played the role of the best friend in the video.
