If I should have a Daughter - Sarah Kay -
If I should have a daughter…“Instead of “Mom”, she’s gonna call me “Point B.” Because that way, she knows that no matter what happens, at least she can always find her way to me. And I’m going to paint the solar system on the back of her hands so that she has to learn the entire universe before she can say “Oh, I know that like the back of my hand.” She’s gonna learn that this life will hit you, hard, in the face, wait for you to get back up so it can kick you in the stomach. But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air. There is hurt, here, that cannot be fixed by band-aids or poetry, so the first time she realizes that Wonder-woman isn’t coming, I’ll make sure she knows she doesn’t have to wear the cape all by herself. Because no matter how wide you stretch your fingers, your hands will always be too small to catch all the pain you want to heal. Believe me, I’ve tried. And “Baby,” I’ll tell her “don’t keep your nose up in the air like that, I know that trick, you’re just smelling for smoke so you can follow the trail back to a burning house so you can find the boy who lost everything in the fire to see if you can save him. Or else, find the boy who lit the fire in the first place to see if you can change him.” But I know that she will anyway, so instead I’ll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boats nearby, ‘cause there is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix. Okay, there’s a few heartbreaks chocolate can’t fix. But that’s what the rain boots are for, because rain will wash away everything if you let it. I want her to see the world through the underside of a glass bottom boat, to look through a magnifying glass at the galaxies that exist on the pin point of a human mind. Because that’s how my mom taught me. That there’ll be days like this, “There’ll be days like this my momma said” when you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises. When you step out of the phone booth and try to fly and the very people you wanna save are the ones standing on your cape. When your boots will fill with rain and you’ll be up to your knees in disappointment and those are the very days you have all the more reason to say “thank you,” ‘cause there is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline no matter how many times it’s sent away. You will put the “wind” in win some lose some, you will put the “star” in starting over and over, and no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life. And yes, on a scale from one to over-trusting I am pretty damn naive but I want her to know that this world is made out of sugar. It can crumble so easily but don’t be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it. “Baby,” I’ll tell her “remember your mama is a worrier but your papa is a warrior and you are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking for more.” Remember that good things come in threes and so do bad things and always apologize when you’ve done something wrong but don’t you ever apologize for the way your eyes refuse to stop shining. Your voice is small but don’t ever stop singing and when they finally hand you heartbreak, slip hatred and war under your doorstep and hand you hand-outs on street corners of cynicism and defeat, you tell them that they really ought to meet your mother. 03|EverGreen September

What Dreams Mean. Afternoon
To dream of the afternoon time suggest that it is time to put your energies to good use. Draw and learn from your past experiences and lessons. Alternatively, it symbolizes clarity to a situation.
To see or wear a necklace in your dream represents unsatisfied desires. It also highlights your intellect and your desire to have more influence and power over others. If the necklace is broken or lost, then it indicates that your rational thinking is in accordance with your emotional thinking. You need to act on your gut instinct about some situation or relationship.
To see your teacher (past or present) in your dream suggests that you are seeking some advice, guidance, or knowledge. You are heading into a new path in life and are ready to learn by example or from a past experience. Alternatively, a teacher relates to issues with authority and seeking approval. You may be going through a situation in your waking life where you feel that you are being treated like a student or in which you feel you are being put to a test. Also pay attention to the demeanor and attitude of the teacher in your dream. If the teacher in your dream is mean, then it implies that you may be putting too much pressure on yourself to succeed.
To dream that you are being scolded indicates that you are being inhibited and prevented from fully expressing yourself in some area of your life.
Keepsake A keepsake is an object used to remember the past. Dreaming of it suggests that you are looking back at the past and realizing what you’ve been through and how you got to the point you are at now. You have learnt to accept and show affection.
Fasting To dream that you are fasting represents self-renewal and selfcleansing. Fasting may also be way to draw attention to some 1 consciousness or problem. Are you trying to punish yourself? Are you feeling guilty about something?
Children To see children in your dream signify an aspect of yourself and your childlike qualities. You may be retreating back to a childlike state and longing for the past. You are trying to still satisfy repressed desires and unfulfilled hopes. Perhaps there is something that you need to see grow and nurture. Take some time off and cater to the inner child within. Alternatively, the dream may be highlighting your innocence, purity, simplicity, and carefree attitude. Do you need to take a break from being an adult and start to go back to a more playful enjoyable life?
Horizon To see the horizon in your dream symbolizes a new beginning or a somber conclusion. The horizon represents your goals and future plans. You are in a continual state of growth, rebirth, and regeneration.
To see the sea in your dream represents your subconscious and the transition between your subconscious and conscious. As with all water symbols, it also represents your emotions. The dream may also be a pun on your understanding and perception of a situation. "I see" or perhaps there is something you need to "see" more clearly. Alternatively, the dream indicates a need to reassure yourself or to offer reassurance to someone. It brings about hope, a new perspective and a positive outlook on life no matter how difficult your current problems may be.
Chase To dream that you are being chased signifies that you are avoiding a situation that you do not think is conquerable. It is a metaphor for some form of insecurity. In particular, to dream that you are chased by an animal represents your own unexpressed and unacknowledged anger which is being projected onto that animal. Alternatively, you may be running away from a primal urge or fear. To dream that you are chasing someone signifies that you are attempting to overcome a difficult goal or task. You may also be expressing some aggressive feelings toward others.
Panic To dream that you are in a panic indicates a lack of control and power in your life. You are feeling helpless in some situation or unable to make a clear decision. Calm down.
Difficulty To dream that you are experiencing difficulties reflect waking difficulties. You are under tremendous stress.
Disguise Why are you hiding or carrying on with a false persona? When you dream of being disguised it means you refuse to face reality or come to terms with things in your life. If someone else is disguised in your dream it indicates they are being someone they are really not and you have started to realize it.
Torture To dream that you are being tortured indicates that you are feeling victimized or helpless in some relationship or situation. You feel that you cannot do anything. Alternatively, the dream suggests that you may exhibit some sadomasochistic desires. To dream that you are torturing someone or see others being tortured suggests that you are punishing yourself for your own negative or bad habits. You are projecting yourself onto the person or animal being tortured. Consider the symbolism of who is being tortured. Alternatively, the dream indicates repressed feelings of revenge which you are not able to act on in your waking life.
Cricket’s Back! Finally cricket is back. How can we forget cricket When we talk about sports in Pakistan, with good words or bad We always discuss it. The title “unpredictable Pakistan” is amazing because no one has any the idea what we might do on the field. And once again, something different happened, return of cricket to Pakistan. Since October 2009 after militants attacked Sri Lankan team on tour in Pakistan, there were no international matches played in the country except the Zimbabwe series held in 2015. Pakistan played all their matches in their adopted home Dubai. But the Independence cup gives a way to cricket of Pakistan to pursue its journey. Pakistan has taken its biggest step towards complete restoration of cricket at home by staging the three Twenty20 internationals against the World XI, a team from seven nations assembled by coach Andy Flower on behalf of the Pakistan Task Team that was formed by International Cricket Council in 2010 to revive cricket in Pakistan. In this revival of cricket the entire nation showed their craziness and passion towards the game. Cricket unites Pakistan; we again prove this to be true. Every Pakistani was celebrating the cricket revitalization. Talking about the stadium, In all three T20’s it was filled with youth; men, women, children wearing green shirts holding national flag.. Every Pakistani was happy that their heroes were playing in front of them. Players were also very excited specially Fakhar Zaman, Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Rumman Raees, because they played on home soil for the first time. World XI team and the coaches were happy with the hospitality of Pakistan. Coach Andy Flower showed satisfaction regarding the security. All the players knew the intensity of the situation but they took risk for the sake of cricket. While showing his passion for cricket, WXI captain Faf du Plessis said that “I can’t imagine being a youngster and not seeing my heroes play in person and so me and the players understand we’re playing for something a lot bigger than us,” he also added: “I’d like to look back at the end of my career and think I did something that made an ‘impact on people’s lives.” Zimbabwe in 2015 was the beginning, the PSL final earlier this year was the’ kickstart, and this series against the World XI could well turned out to be the factor that normalises things in this abnormal situation. It’s not going to be easy, but that’s the hope in Pakistan.
The Eid Business Religion
plays a significant role in
Muslim culture. Muslims believe in Oneness of God. They celebrate festivals because of God's order. Muslim try to spend their live as per Gods wishes, likewise in their Festivals Muslims remember their God and they celebrate Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul azha for the sake of God's mercy and heaven after death. On the day of Eid people enjoy and show happiness and offer prayers in the form of group. They gather in an Open land or in a Mosque and tones of people join together and ask Allah for His blessing, forgiveness of all sins and ask for success in this life and hereafter.
Also they ask for the true path to live in this life and get destination that is heaven. So it is clear that Eid celebration is not only an expression of happiness but also it expresses the spiritual happiness. After Eid prayers and meeting on the occasion of Eid, people hug eachother. Eid is the time to spread happiness, love and triumph creating enthusiasm among all the family members.
EID UL AZHA, celebrated on the 10th day of last Islamic month, Zilhaj. The Eid ul AZHA celebrates in the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (A.S) obedience to sacrifice his son Ismail (A.S) to Allah as an act of submission to God's command. 12|EverGreen September
is a memory of his son's
acceptance to being sacrificed, before God intervened to provide Prophet Ibrahim with a Sheep to sacrifice instead. At the time of Eid ul AZHA people go to Hajj Pilgrimage, and People give sacrifice of sheeps, cows, camels with the commemoration of the sacrifice given by the Prophet Ibrahim and followed what Allah ordered.
Muslims believe they obey the same God of Prophet Ibrahim who is very near to the God.
religious but economic boost for the country. In Pakistan, as the days to Eid-ul-AZHA came near, the craze of buying animals for sacrifice increases.
lanes, paths are
filled by the young as well as the adult proud about the uniqueness of their animals. They don’t care about the stink of animal waste that remains in the air. All they want is to take care of their animals especially children who can play till late night outside their houses because of them.
Trade and Industry
Clothing Business Pakistani eid shopping has been started months before the eid day. Eid Shopping itself a festival for us. Buying of new clothes and accessories continues till the night before eid called “chand raat.” On chand raat many women and girls go to parlours or salons. The buying and wearing new clothes and shoes as well as women's jewelry and other accessories add up to another Rs 737625 million spent in Pakistan, which help Pakistan to move its economy.
Animal’s skin play an important role in enhancement of the country’s market. Business men export it to foreign countries. Eid ul Azha facilitate the manufactures of bags, gloves, shoes, belt, jackets, accessories etc because they get hides in number of bulk.
These types of festivals move the economy because people do more charity on these occasions. Animal hides and significant amounts of meat are donated to various charities and the poor on Eid. These three days of eid people do much donations and contributions to help poor people of the society. On Eid ul Azha sacrificed animal meat is distributed to needy and poors. Charity oraganization like Edhi Foundation and chippa are big beneficiaries of this charity. Overseas Pakistani also does charity for these popular helping organizations which move on the financial system.
Rural Prosperity These types of festivals move the economy because people do more charity on these occasions. The Eid Business
Eid ul Azha helps Pakistan to improve its economy. Pakistanis have spent nearly Rs 30,000 crore this Eid-ul-Azha to sacrifice an estimated 8.1 million animals, figures told by Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA). This buy and selling enhance the trade of animals and their feeds etc.
Aid and Donations
Eid ul Azha represents a $3.5 billion worth of economic activity that is generating jobs and helping the charity foundations and rural residents of the country. The Eid-eQurban market has stretched. A lot of money flows in from overseas Pakistanis who prefer to fulfill their religious obligation back home, probably to maintain connection with their roots. According to reports based on the Pakistan Tanners Association, over 10m cattle heads (2.5m cows, bulls, buffaloes, 7.3m goats, 80,000 sheep, 30,000 camels) worth Rs 30,000 crore offered for sacrifice during the three day festival this year. Money spends on clothing, shoes, accessories, grooming, transport, hospitality, Butchers,
feed of excluded from this.
This year Moreover, on this blessing day billions worth leather come in the hand of political and religious parties, who use it for self-interest. Eid ul Azha is a positive sign for the economy of Pakistan. But it required Government role in the distribution of wealth among masses. Government should do proper arrangement for the herders. The taxpaying system should be prepared without corruption and the illegal import or export of animals must bring to an end. Eid ul Azha is a complete cycle of economy everything is connected to one another, transportation is connected to animals’ prices, more over it is linked with butcher fee and animal feed and so on. Over all it is good business for a country.
Having Trouble? Every week, we ask you to send us your questions and we take those questions type them in the Google search bar and paste the answers in the next issue. Just kidding! We do a lot of “research” on your queries and try to reply to it in the best way possible. So this month, we’re back with answers we’ve received last month related to Eid-ul-Adha preparations. What are the best ways to sharpen old kitchen knives? (sent in by Aliyah Aiman) A – We all remember the time when a man would ride around in our neighborhood on his bike; asking people from house to house if they’d want him to sharpen their kitchen knives. He would have a wooden machine with an electric metal plate on it that would sharpen the dullest of knives within seconds. However, as times have changed, we don’t see that man too often, and our dull knives get replaced by new shiny ones which after a month of usage become dull and rusty. There are a few ways to sharpen kitchen knives that not only save money, but are easy and safe to use. I would recommend buying a knife sharpener; there are all kinds available according to price and mechanism (I will suggest good knife sharpeners at the end of this answer), but if you don’t want to go out and buy one, I will tell you a quick and easy trick. All you need is a Ceramic Mug and a dull knife. You can use the unglazed bottom of a ceramic mug to sharpen small knives. Applying moderate pressure, hold the knife at a 15-degree angle and carefully draw the entire length of the blade across the rough surface. Simple, right? If you want to buy knife sharpeners; these are the ones easily available, anywhere:
Can you give me some ideas for storing meat during bakraeid, I have a very small fridge? (sent by Fatima Noor) A – It is important to note that freezing beef may affect the flavor, texture, and appearance of the meat when it is cooked at a later date, and in some cases, there may be a noticeable difference between fresh and frozen. Refrigerated ground beef should be used within 1 or 2 days and can be stored in the freezer for up to 4 months. Leftover cooked beef that is refrigerated should be used within 3 or 4 days and can be frozen for up to 3 months. The cut of beef is placed inside the bag, the air is removed creating a vacuum in the bag, and then the bag is sealed to maintain the vacuum. Beef that is frozen for long-term storage in vacuum packages (or other types of packaging) can be dated so that it can be used within the proper time limit: up to 1 year for raw beef cuts, 4 months for ground beef, and 3 months for any type of cooked leftovers.
Whetstones. (Cheap, requires effort)
Vacuum Packaging: An efficient way to store beef to preserve it for a long period of time is Vaccum Packaging. It keeps beef fresh for a long time but you have to properly freeze it.. The vacuum packaged is usually made from plastic bags.
Knife Sharpening Steel. (Cheap, requires little effort) Manual Knife Sharpener. (Moderate price, easy to use) Electronic Knife Sharpener. (A little expensive, requires no effort)

A Brutally Honest Trailer Review
WATCH THIS Punjab Nahi Jaongi- *(The movie will be released before this magazine is published) Nadeem Baig, a visionary, made yet another film that has us waiting for its release. Since the movie will be out in September, let’s review the trailer and try to figure out what the movie would actually be about. The trailer opens with a landscape scene of a city sea, where through the voiceover Humayun Saeed in a Punjabi accent degrades KarachiWaliyan. And from this point on, we know this is going to be another Karachi vs. Punjabi, city vs. village cliché. Punjab Nahi Jaongi is basically about a wealthy Punjabi family, the Khaggas, who celebrate the little joys of life by dancing at various locations, like inside the house, outside the house, on the streets, on a horse carriage, and basically anywhere where there’s a good background. The most educated member of the family (qualification Matric), Fawad Khagga (Humayun Saeed) with his amazing English language skills, is a self-absorbed yet charming Faisalabadi guy who girls go crazy over. And one of his admirers is a youthful Punjabi girl named Durdana (Urwa Hocane) who also, loves to dance (no surprise there.). Throughout the entire trailer,
We can see Durdana and Fawad trying to get a little too comfortable with each other, but don’t jump to conclusions, because our leading lady is someone else. Enter, Amal (Mehwish Hayat) the city girl “who doesn’t want to go to Punjab”. Let’s just pause for a moment and acknowledge how beautiful Mehwish Hayat looks in the trailer, both in Desi and Western styled clothes. Amal’s Grandmother, Bebou jee is an old family friend of the Khagga family, and this tie will lead our two leading characters to meet. Fawad instantly falls in love with Amal, obviously, but Amal has no interest in him, since she’s already engaged to someone else (played by Azfar Rehman), whose name we don’t know yet- because spoilers. Azfar Rehman, judging by the trailer, is a little snobbish, and It is established in the trailer that Amal does not love her fiancé so we know Fawad still has a chance. So he finds it appropriate to claim his love for her, in front of her fiancé, in the most efficient, decent manner. After which Amal rejects him, and a few scenes later, they’re dancing all over the place, (AGAIN). The trailer really does confuse the audience but Shafqat Amanat Ali’s voice keeps us hinged. All of a sudden, everything seems to go wrong, Amal has bloodshot eyes, everybodys crying, and Azfar Rehman is shown beating Humayun Saeed (quite unrealistic). Jokes apart, the trailer is however colorful and doesn’t give much of the story away. We would absolutely love to see Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat in a movie together, since the pair looks great on screen.
Note from a Concerned Citizen Dear Editor, I require your attention to highlight an issue that would concern every Pakistani in the days to come. As we all know Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated nation-wide, and although it brings joy and happiness in our homes, we cannot deny the fact that our streets are left in terrible conditions after the animals are slaughtered. There is blood on every road and street corner and because of lack of sanitation in most areas, the filth turns into fungus and makes the entire place smell and contaminated with germs. These consequences of the festivities should be controlled and efforts should be made to prevent the pollution by the city council. Also, citizens should play their part in keeping the area clean by avoiding any unnecessary littering. A concerned citizen, Nida Khan 18|EverGreen September
Unreal It all started when we were at the office on a Monday afternoon. It was just after lunch time. I was working with my team on our project and they were rechecking all the work, when my phone started to ring; it was my wife calling. We were just preparing for our presentation; I was really busy so I didn’t pick up. All of a sudden, the ground started shaking. Everything was moving from its place; and in that moment I knew, this is an EARTHQUAKE! All of us ran to search for to a safe place. There was fear in the room and everybody was shouting. I saw a ceiling fan drop on top of a colleague; I tried dragging him from under it. He got some bruises on his left leg and shoulder but he was able to walk. As we were running to the exit, the power went off and loud screams could be heard from every corner. Somehow we managed to reach an open area safely; the office ground. When we got to the ground, a huge crowd was already present there. People were coming out of their departments in absolute terror; some crying, some injured, some silent. When we did a head count to check whether everyone was present in the ground, one member of the Sales team was missing; supposedly stuck under the rubble. Some of the employees volunteered to run back inside to bring him out. After about 10 minutes of waiting for them, they came back, fortunately with him; who was now unconscious. Moments later, help arrived from; it was the district’s rescue team. They told us that several hospitals from the area had collapsed. It was a disaster! We felt the earthquake again, which lasted for seconds, but those couples of seconds were when I saw my entire life flashing right in front of my eyes. I was scared for the damages that might have happened in my area; my neighbourhood, the place where I lived. There were no phone networks available, so I rushed to my home thinking about my wife, hoping she’d be okay. I had lost my car keys in the chaos so I decided to leave on feet. Sdfsd 20|EverGreen September
On my way home, I saw that every other house on my street was wrecked. Two schools and almost every store in the area had collapsed. The places I had just seen this morning, filled with smiling faces of people. Places I had loved when moving into the area, now were the murderers of the people crushed underneath them. Cars were left abandoned on the streets; roads were impassable under all the debris. Buildings, poles and crushed vehicles were everywhere. I walked the long way with a racing heart. Now dragging my feet, surrounded by a pack of people crying prayers like soft yet desperate whispers. It was unreal. In that moment, I regretted not staying with my family and ever moving to a new place for work. I had no way of letting my family know I was safe; just hoped that they wouldn’t hear about the earthquake till tomorrow, or until I could contact them. My racing heart had stopped, and I felt my world shaking apart when I saw my house; or what was left of it, plain wreckage. Even at that moment my mind did not stop praying for my wife’s safety. There was an ambulance parked at the corner of the street, where my house was. I heard a woman screeching in pain, and for a moment my ears did not want to recognize the familiar voice. I hesitantly moved towards the ambulance, wanting time to stop there and there; and just reverse somehow. When I got to the gurney on my sidewalk, my eyes landed on my wife. She was covered in blood. I recalled the moment when I didn’t receive her call. I shouted at the paramedics to save her. She was saying something in between heavy breaths. I looked at her and paused. I stood next to her to listen. She said, “I’m leaving now, Take good care of yourself” and closed her eyes. There was a loud buzz in my ears and my head started spinning. I close my eyes and tried to make sense of the sound. I realized it was my alarm clock going off! It was the worst nightmare I’ve ever had. Standing in front of the mirror was my wife, completely ignoring the alarm. She looked at me and i said, “You know, I REALLY LIKED THE ENDING.”

It’s a complete workout routine you can follow so you can also look like “Logan”. Stand up, place your hands in front of you and quickly pick your right knee up to meet your right hand, bring the same leg back to the ground immediately bring the left knee coming up to meet your left hand. Hop on your toes as you switch legs.
Crouch or sit with one's knees bent and one's heels close to or touching one's buttocks or the back of one's thighs.
Its an adition to a regular pushup. Keep the torso rigid and head aligned with your spine. Straighten the arms, lift each foot off the floor alternatively as you pushup each time, keeping the knee straight.
Start in plank position. Now jump your feet towards your hands. Your feet should land underneath the hips. Pause and hold this position for a second. Jump your feet back to the starting position. Sit on the floor, lift both your legs up with your knees bent. Interlace your hands and twist to the left side first and then the right side.
Get into the plank position and, without letting your foot touch the ground, draw your knee up to your chest. Return it and repeat with the other knee.
Lie on your back with your knees together and your legs bent to 90 degrees, feet planted on the floor. Place your palms face down on the floor for support. Tighten your abs to lift your hips off the floor as you crunch your knees inward to your chest.
Start in a push-up plank position. Lift one arm off the floor and touch the opposite shoulder. Lower your arm to the floor, switch sides and repeat.

5Step Recipe By Nimra Aftab
Mash the garlic into a paste with the salt using masher or the flat side of a chef's knife on your cutting board. Mix the garlic onto the beef along with the onion, parsley, coriander, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, red chilli, ginger, and black pepper in a mixing bowl until well blended.
4 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon salt ½ kg ground beef 3 tablespoons grated onion 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon ground coriander 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon red chili 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 28 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Form the mixture into balls. Form each ball around the tip of a skewer, flattening into a 2 inch oval; repeat with the remaining skewers.
Place the kebabs onto a baking sheet, cover, and refrigerate at least 30 minutes, or up to 12 hours.
Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil grate.
Cook the skewers on the preheated grill, turning occasionally, until the kabab has cooked to your desired degree of doneness, about 6 minutes for medium.
