Exciting New Building Changes Underway Many new and exciting changes will occur over the next several months at Post 100. These changes, while temporarily impacting Medic employees, will make our building better than ever! The site work began last week with the revamp of the employee parking lot behind Post 100. Construction crews are working on connecting the overflow parking lot to the main parking lot by adding a driveway. In addition, the parking lot where MED-1 is currently held will also become an employee parking lot, which will also be connected and secured by a fence. With the expansion of parking, the main parking entrance/exit will stay the same and will be the only prox card access to all three lots. Note: No additional ambulance parking will be added at this phase of the project – the project team wanted to focus funds on first creating more employee parking. In addition, Medic Special Operations will be moving from our current building to the building out back (closest to the MED-1 parking lot); a 35,000 square foot space. Alert, the MCI Buses and MED-1 will all be relocated to the back building. Also, distribution of employee gear (rain gear, etc.), fit testing, and the Center for Prehospital Medicine will be located in the back building. The Center for Prehosptial Medicine will move into the upstairs space of the back building. All paramedic/EMT academies and orientations will be conducted in two new classrooms. Please note, all other training will still take place at Post 100 – the simulation center and the auditorium will stay in the same area where it is currently. Along with the addition of the back building and more employee parking, the Alert Bay (and the other loading docks) will be going through an entire transformation. The new area will house a larger, updated fitness center, employee lounge/ game room (air hockey, foosball, etc.) and new restrooms with additional showers (current showers will also remain). New office space will also be constructed for the OA’s/on-duty supervisor, Health and Safety, Scheduling, Managers/ Supervisors and the Health Nurse. The last phase of the project will be the reconstruction of the front offices. Offices will be cut in half, making for the best possible use of space, people and resources. We will continue to keep you updated about the construction process, new additions and making our building an even better environment for all employees. If you have any questions about the construction project, please contact Shari Lambeth (sharil@medic911.com).
