Design in the Square is a spatial prototyping tool for the public that draws inspiration from 2016’s Seattle Design Festival project: Map the Square, a project that challenged the public to take to the streets of Pioneer Square and physically tag areas they felt deserved a public intervention.

DISCOVERY PARK FIELD LAB 2014 | UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

The Discovery Park Field Lab is a place of education and retreat for Seattle’s local secondary schools and the public. Its concrete foundation sews together forest and field, illustrating an often overlooked moment in nature. A circulatory V shape slows a downhill transition giving visitors the opportunity to reflect on nature and architecture.

Tiber Connect repurposes the Tiber River, transforming its embankment into an accessible urban bike route designed to slingshot tourists to the city’s main destinations. Located between monuments, piazzas, and gardens Tiber Connect is a transportation hub linked to the city by the river. With the intention of driving use of the river throughout the city, the site has been developed to draw the public in from the surrounding urban context.

The North addition is a classroom expansion for the midcentury designed Ingraham High School part of the Seattle Public School system. In order to create a formal entryway for the school the design features a plaza leading to a forum that is adjacent to the existing buildings main offices.

Passive and open courtyards feature greenery which acts as a buffer between commons spacing in the north addition and existing classrooms. A makerspace connects to the west courtyard (open) via a garage door creating a function outdoor greenspace with stepped seating.

STEEL TUBE CHAIR COLD ROLLED 1/16” STEEL FRAME LAMINATED WALNUT BACK

Inspired by Danish furniture master Arne Jacobsen, the Rail Chair seeks to build off of the dimensional qualities of “The Chair” and combine them with the experimental steel tube bending explorations of early-mid 20th centurty designers. The steel frame is constructed of 6 separate lengths of tubing, hand bent, welded, and sanded to hide any seams. The back is made of vacuum laminated walnut veneers.
