Metaphysics Of Presence Derrida rejects the philosophy of presence; believes in the philosophy of absence.

Deconstruction Research Thesis Sem - 10

Deconstruction Through Philosophy Jaques Derrida’s Philosophy Architectural Reformation through Philosophy

Deconstruction

Structuralism To understand the center of word, need to understand other centers.

Notion of Center/Binary Oppositions

Deconstruction Through Art Suprematism - Kazmir Malevich Constructivism - Vladimir Tatlin Architectural Reformation through Art Nothing is centralised or - Lazar Khidekel marginalised. Two binary - Ivan Leonidov oppositions depend on each other.

Bernard Tschumi

Parc De La Villete, 1982-98 Paris

Concept of Differance : • Standard principle of modern architecture - “Form follows Function”, means function rule over form. • Form of follie is independent of function.

Influence of Avant Garde

Peter Eisenman

Concept of Centrality

Concept of Itterability : • Instability of text’s meaning. A sign or word has different Russian meanings. • Repeatition of the structure of follies • Function not constant Wexner Center Of Arts USA, 1989

• Niether architecture of castle, nor mordern architecture is centralized or marginalised. Concept of Presence / Absence • Absence of site is the Presence of ancient architecture is the absence of site.

Concept Of Trace : • Absence of site is the Presence of axis. Since - City street grid - Oval plaza occupied near the site.

Concept of Binary Opposition • Contradiction is between completion and incompletion. • Feeling of incompleteness of a finished structure.

2. Signifier and Signified : 1. Presence and Absence :

• Columns are not structurally required.

• Sabarmati river contributes major role in the Context.

• Internal columns are structurally suporting the building.

• Presence of splitting the building is the absence of river. 3. Binary Opposition (Solid vs Coverted into Void) : forms

• Columns are both sigiified(structurally supporting) and signifier (indicates sign).

• Existing design building is a solid mass. • Solidity of the building is centraized. Void Solid

02

Public Space Competition (Lighting and Senses) Location : Banglore Light is an important visual factor in any architectural space. The design adds other senses like smell and taste through the program selected spice market. Spices are popular in south side of India. So Banglore is chosen for the site . A public space should be connected to the nature, since nature attracts people. So, we choose site in the central garden of the banglore which is surrounded by many commercial building increases the public interaction in that area.

The concept of design is to create a street with angled walls which create variations of light intensity in different areas. Light is in a gradient flow, light to dark to light. In entrance is the area where people get to know the history, importance and information about spices. Central part is the darkest area in which spice market is the function which gives more importance to the sense of smell rather than visual.

03

Government Campus Design Studio Sem - 8 Location : Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) The site is in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh. The site has a river in opposite side. This studio is the study of Louis Khan. I studied different buildings of Louis Khan for example Uniterian Church, Dhaka Assembly Hall, Trenton Bath, Kimbell Art Museum etc. In each building Louis Khan used different ways to penetrate light inside the building. “Democracy for the people , by the people Assembly hall shows the democracy of the country. The design incorporates fundamental democratic values such as openness, transparency and public co-determination. Design says that every individual is equal . The members standing in the assembly hall is because of the people and for the people. The building accepts nature , people or anything coming to it. The building respects everybody without any type of discrimination.

Section

Architectural Intentions : - Master plan designed with indirect entry to make spaces mysterious for the visitors. - Context of the site is used. - Two entries of assembly hall , one for government member and other is for people. - Concept is to have light wells at intervals. - Facade of the building is composition of simple geometry and play of light.
