Christchurch Craft & Quilt Fair

Christchurch Christchurch Christchurch welcome Dear Craft Fair Friends, We are delighted to be back in 2014 and hope you’ll join us for a fantastic Craft & Quilt Fair. Making time to do things you love is like food for the soul – and there will be plenty of things to love at the Craft & Quilt Fair. Here are our tips to make the most of the fair:

PPPlan before you arrive – check out the workshop timetables

and the popup classes and work out your must-do activities

PPMake a list of your must-see exhibitors – this is the only chance all year that you’ll get to see some of them

PPArrive early – there are displays to see too – creative inspiration can’t be rushed!

PPDefinitely do a hands-on session – it’s the best way to pick up tips and learn something new

PPWatch out for demonstrations – look and you will learn! PPCollect cards and handouts – you may realise when you go home that you want to place an order

PPKeep the onsite guide as a handy reference for later – it has the contact details of the exhibitors

PPLighten the load during the day – deposit your shopping in the cloakroom so you keep fresh

PPTalk to the guilds and associations there – they are locals

who share your interests – joining a group may open up a wonderful new world for you.

Enjoy the fair!

Tell all your friends: Two great events in two weeks – in Christchurch AND Palmerston North!

Christchurch Christchurch Christchurch embroidered art Our guest artist this year is Cheryl Bridgart, a talented artist from South Australia, who happens to use a sewing machine to create her works. Cheryl is an internationally recognised artist in Fine Art Freehand Machine Embroidery (FAFME) and she has exhibited and taught widely in New Zealand, Australia, UK and the USA. Her art is now being collected by an increasingly appreciative audience and she has works in collections in USA, UK, Switzerland, Japan and throughout Australasia.

As well as producing amazing ‘thread paintings’, Cheryl is also a talented creator of wearable art and a painter. In addition to FAFME Cheryl’s loves are fabric, fine tailoring, designing, colour, dreams, experimenting, teaching and animals. She lives with a full size zebra ‘Zoe’ in her converted horse stable studio-home in downtown Adelaide and never wears anything she hasn’t made! Meet Cheryl at the fair and see her working on her next amazing piece.

Christchurch Christchurch Christchurch no squares allowed! ...or rectangles for that matter! And that is precisely what makes these quilts so interesting. That, and the fact there are so many intriguing designs all created with a common fabric. The annual New Zealand Hoffman Challenge is organised by Needle ‘n Thread, in Geraldine. It is open to all quilters no matter where they live and the entries must contain the nominated fabric for that year; must be no larger than one metre square; must not be square or rectangular and must contain a recognisable amount of the challenge fabric. See these works and more at the Hoffman Challenge at the fair.

Christchurch Christchurch Christchurch visit ‘blue heaven’ in quilts! See Aotearoa Quilters’ latest challenge – ‘blue’.

Blue Morpho by Sonya Prchal

Blue is the favourite colour of many....the various shades of this colour have so many meanings – strength, trust, authority, calmness and infinity are just few. Aotearoa Quilters threw out a challenge to all quilters to create a 12in square quilt based on the colour blue. There are four prizes awarded with a total value of $300. The Blue Challenge attracted lots of entries, proving very popular and the wonderful interpretations on this theme make it a mustsee. Plus all the works on display are for sale.
