Discover the Possibilities

Talent Show!

We would like to offer you the opportunity to attend a free, one-hour event called Discover the Possibilities at Mosaic in Northeast Kansas. Those who attend will be given a tour of Mosaic’s mission and work through stories told by the people who know it well -- the people we serve, their families and our staff members.

Our annual talent show was a blast! We had some amazing talents shared including singing, acting, and dancing with attitude. Our judges were Cheryl, Lindsay, Jennifer and Lolita. Everyone who participated received a fun gift. It was very tough to choose the top three places, but the honors go to: third place winner Elizabeth Wilson with her dancing talents, second place winner Jamie Pennington with her beautiful voice, and first place winners Chris Lasster and Rogenta Williams who strutted their stuff to Michael Jackson. We all had a great time and are looking forward to next year’s show.

Upcoming Dates: Tues., Oct, 15 | 12 - 1 p.m. Wed., Oct. 16 | 12 - 1 p.m. Interested in hosting your own Discover the Possibilities event? We will bring a Discover the Possibilities event to you at a time and location of your choice for your family, friends or colleagues. If you have any questions, would like to get involved or to attend one of our Discover the Possibilities, please call Mary Hindle at 913.788.8400 x113.

Featured Direct Support Associate – Aaron Bronough

Congratulations to Aaron Bronough, for being selected as the Regional Employee of the Month!

Meet this month’s featured Direct Support Associate, Aaron Bronough. How long have you been with Mosaic? I have been on staff at Mosaic for 11 years.

Linda loves to draw and has a great sense of humor.

CQL’s Basic Assurances demonstrate Mosaic’s commitment to quality

What are your main duties? I take care of the people in day services, and put a smile on their face each and every day. What is your favorite part about working here? When I walk into the room in the morning, everyone starts yelling out my name, saying Hi! and smiling. I also enjoy seeing my man, Terry.

The Council on Quality and Leadership’s Basic Assurances has 10 factors that help ensure that Mosaic’s standards of quality do not fall short of excellent. This month we are focusing on factor one, which focuses on rights protection and promotion. This factor determines how well the organization implements policies and procedures that promote people’s rights and has systems in place to support people to exercise their rights and responsibilities. The organization’s staff must be trained to honor people’s rights. Mosaic in Northeast Kansas has an active Human Rights Committee to uphold due process requirements and has systems in place to support people’s decision making as needed. If you have any questions or comments regarding quality at Mosaic, please call us at 913.788.8400.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself. I’m fun, easygoing and patient. What are your hobbies? I love watching football (go Broncos!) and other sports. If you could only pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Loveable Thank you, Aaron, for your outstanding service for Mosaic in Northeast Kansas!

Letter from the Executive Directorby Lana Smith As many of you know, 2013 is the centennial anniversary for Mosaic. The theme of our Centennial is “A Century of Service, a Legacy of Love.” This theme reflects the call heard by our founders to serve people with disabilities. Throughout this year, Mosaic in Northeast Kansas has held several events to commemorate the milestone including an open house, a Mosaic quiz testing our knowledge on all that is Mosaic, and even a cookbook compiled of recipes by staff and people in service! In addition, our own Thad Livingston sang at the Centennial Festival in Axtell, Nebraska in June and, as always, moved everyone who had the opportunity to hear his beautiful voice. In September, I participated in National Direct Support Professionals Week where we recognized our direct support staff for their commitment and support to the people we serve at Mosaic. In addition, I visited with all of our Host Home Providers and the people they have brought into their lives and families. It has been so uplifting to talk with all

of these wonderful people who bring their passion, experience and commitment to Mosaic everyday. In these conversations, I find myself so honored that they want to be a part of Mosaic in Northeast Kansas and grateful to all of them for all of their dedication to the people we serve. As I reflect on these events and Mosaic’s rich history of service, I am blessed to be a part of an organization which lives its mission to create a life of possibilities for people with intellectual disabilities every day, and for the staff who have chosen to continue Mosaic’s legacy of love into our second century of service.
