Renca Fire Station. Studio Course 1st semester of 2010

The Studio takes the composition ideas of a sculpture and develops a project articulating them with the research of a district on the outside of Santiago city. The project takes the curve steel plate’s idea of Serra, to generate a whole system of curve walls that maintain the same level that contrast with the topography of the hill where the project is located. These structural walls separate the project in 2 basic levels, one below open to the community with social programs like restaurant, a room for events and a square; and another above for the staff of the station. All the transition from one tier to the other occurs between the overlapping of the curves.

Bridge Prototype. Edification and Technologic Course 2nd semester of 2010

Guide Professor Mario Ubilla. The assignment consists in the design of a bridge over a space of 6 meters and be able to hold 3 persons. In the first part the work was with wood models in 1:10 scale which were prove with weight until collapse. The final bridge was built with 1x2 timber sticks, wood plate and some special pieces of wood for the connections. Also, some metal tensors were used for the tractions and metal pieces for the connections. For the final test it resisted perfectly 6 persons over it.

Sport Center. Studio Course 1st semester of 2011

After an exhaustive studio of statue of liberty’s plastic conditions, the project takes the contrast between the orthogonal structure of the interior and the irregular layer of the sculpture, like the main idea’s project. Two interior sport fields and one swimming pool are buried in the ground in a rectangular shape that is transformed progressively as the structure goes up, into a free curve on the top; where are the open fields and the public space. This transition gives the building a structural mesh constructed by straight pillars that goes in and out generating a perfect balance. There are two structural meshes, one inside the other that are used like bleachers for the fields. In between them are the interiors circulations of the different levels and the adjacent programs.

Gastronomic Technical School Studio Course 2nd semester of 2011

Guide Professor Teodoro Fernandez. The project consist in the remodelling of an old school in a triangular corner between two streets in Recoleta District. The goal was to keep the important buildings and articulate them with an extra parasite structure. This one was a composition of multiple orthogonal bands that came from on street going to the the other according the geometry of the site. These lines have with different height and angles that let the light pass through the wood’s structure and came in into the different spaces. The programs include the different rooms for classes, offices, kitchen workshops, a common casino, a public restaurant and a gym.

An old wood bridge of the Saltpeter mineral industry of the XIX didn’t have any else registration than 2 pictures and some letters from the construction period. This complemented with a deep study of the US bridges technology, the British industry placed on the north of Chile and the ruins measuring on the real site, allows to get an hypothetical approximation of the real bridge, and the whole investigation written down in a document who was finally save in the “Corporación del Salitre”.

Sculpture Aproximation A personal interest in composition have been developed in the last 3 years. In parallel to the architecture studies, have tried to aproach the tridimentionality from another direction, related with the last one, but without any limit from funtionality, just playing around with materials and forms.
