The next year, the Olsen twins continued on their fashion takeover with the launch of their second line, Elizabeth and James. This line was a more contemporary brand inspired by many of the twin’s unique vintage finds and pieces found in their own personal wardrobes. In 2014, Ashley and Mary-Kate opened their first flagship store for The Row in Los Angeles. Rather then opening their first store in New York City, they wanted their line to be available where they grew up because they believe their customer is in tune with L.A. style. However, during this summer they opened their second flagship store in New York City where they have one of their two offices and they show their line. The Row is regularly presented at New York fashion week and has also been shown twice at Paris fashion week. The Row Fall/Winter 2016 collection was staged in the Olsens’ New York studio. The atmosphere was low key and intimate as the models walked through the rooms. The models were dressed in neutral hues and fluid silhouettes. There was a newfound severity to the tailoring in the businesslike pieces. However, beyond the suiting the Olsen twins displayed a sense of softness and seduction within the details. The lust-worthy wide leather belts knotted twice at the back added definition to the waistline of their soft kimono jackets. These sensual details set the twins apart from other designers and help them in the difficult fashion market. As The Row continues to grow and display Ashley and Mary-Kate’s ability to design and manufacture a luxury line, they continue to work at their second line Elizabeth and James as well. Ashley and Mary-Kate continue to shy away from the public’s fascination with them, perhaps due to their childhood acting days and they do not want their lines to be considered a celebrity brand. Rather the Olsen twins want to be known for creating beautiful pieces that fulfill a wardrobe with perfect items that are interchangeable. WWW.NICHE.STYLE
